A Study on the Relationship between Ship Stability and Maneuverability Using Free Running Model Experiments (자유항주 모형실험에 의한 선박의 복원성능과 조종성능 관계 연구)

  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued international standards for ship maneuverability and stability. These have been established to improve marine safety and influence the direction of research. The previous literature has been researched, but there are few studies on the relationship between ship maneuverability and stability. This study carried out a fundamental experiment to quantitatively evaluate that relationship. Radius of turn and maximum heel angle depending on changing were analyzed through a turning test using a free running model ship. The test results show the change tendency of decreasing turn radius and increasng maximum heel angle according to a GM decrease. A rough estimate equation is proposed to predict the change tendency on radius of turn and angle of maximum heel as GM decreases. Many ships can suddenly experience reduced GM due to unexpected reasons during sailing. The results in this study can be used as fundamental data to estimate a ship's tactical turn diameter and variable heel angle for steering as GM decreases.

  • Ship hydrodynamics in the confined waterways is challenging. When a ship is maneuvering in confined waterways, the hydrodynamic behavior may vary significantly because of the hydrodynamic interaction between the bottom of the ship hull and the seabed, or so-called shallow water effects. Thus, an accurate prediction of shallow water and bank effects is essential to minimizing the risk of the collision and the grounding of the ships. The hydrodynamic derivatives measured by the virtual captive model test provide a path to predicting the change in ship maneuverability. This paper presents a numerical simulation of captive model tests to predict the maneuverability of a ship in confined waterways. Also, straight and zig-zag simulation were conducted to predict the trajectory of a ship maneuvering in confined waterways. The results showed that the asymmetric flow around a ship induced by vicinity of banks causes pressure differences between the port and starboard sides and the trajectory of a ship maneuvering in confined waterways.

  • 최근 국제유가 상승과 탄소배출량 규제에 따른 친환경 선박의 개발 요구가 증대되고 있으며 이는 일반선 뿐만 아니라 어선에서도 마찬가지이다. 본 논문에서는 유류비 증가 및 어선의 노후화 등으로 인한 국내 어업 경쟁력의 약화 및 채산성 악화를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 연근해 어선용 추진기 개발을 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 현재 국내 어선현황에 기초하여 대표 선종인 130톤급 예망어선을 대상선으로 선정하고 추진기의 추진성능을 이론 및 실험적으로 평가 분석하였으며, 모형 시험 및 수치 해석 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 대상선의 프로펠러는 과도한 캐비테이션이 발생되는 상태에서 매운 높은 수준의 소음과 진동이 발생하는 것으로 추측된다. 이는 어선의 추진력 감소에 따른 연료비의 증대, 캐비테이션에 의한 추진기 손상, 과도하게 발생되는 소음에 따른 어획량 감소의 주된 원인이 된다. 본 연구를 통해 일반 상선의 추진성능 평가에 적용되는 최신 기술을 어선 추진기에 적용하여 모형시험 및 이론 성능 평가 과정을 정립하였으며, 이를 통해 앞으로 어선 추진기의 성능을 상당 부분 개선할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Research on eco-friendly ships is being actively conducted due to the strengthening of environmental regulations in the shipping sector by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). However, most studies are on large ships, and research on small ships is insufficient. Since most fishermen operate small boats, research on eco-friendly fuel vessels is necessary. This study performed resistance performance analysis, model tests, and POW tests to develop a hybrid electric propulsion ship, and compared and verified the CFD and model test results.

  • The IMO has adopted emission standards that strictly restrict the use of bunker C oil for vessels. Accordingly, research and bunkering pilot projects for LNG fueled ships are being actively carried out, which is expected to substantially reduce environmental pollution. In this study, we have adopted the turret moored Floating LNG Bunkering Terminal (FLBT) designed to receive the LNG from LNGCs and to transfer LNG to LNG bunkering shuttles in ship to ship moored condition. Numerical simulations have been performed with a 1-year return period of wind, wave, and current. Damping values of numerical model were adjusted from the results of model tests to obtain accurate simulation results. The results confirm safe berthing operation during the 1-year return period of environmental condition. Safety depends on the direction of environment, with increasingly stable operation facilitated by the application of heading-control function of FLBT to avoid beam-sea conditions.

  • "선용품"이라는 용어는 선박에서 사용되는 모든 관련 기계적 부속품(SPARE)와 소모성 자재(STORE)를 통칭하여 부르는 용어이다. 자동차나 다른 기계류와 달리,선박은 원양을 운항하기에 긴급하거나 급박한 상황의 발생으로 기부속에 대한 수요가 발생할 경우 긴밀하게 대응하기가 어려운 환경에 놓여져 있다. 본 연구에서 연구자는 공급지 결정을 가능하게 하기 위해, 실제 보급사례들을 바탕으로 데이터를 분석하고, 각 선주사 및 선박관리업체 측을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여, 그 결과를 분석해 선박의 선용품 보급지 결정방안을 일반화 하고자 한다 .

  • 쌍동선이나 삼동선과 같은 다동체를 가진 선박의 선형과 유체 동력학적 특징들에 대하여는 실험과 동시에 수치적으로 널리 연구되어 왔다. 본 연구는 소형 다동체 레저낚시어선의 선형개발에 관한 연구로서 모형실험은 인하대학교 선형시험구조에서 수행되었으며 수치계산은 Euler 방정식의 유한차분해법이 이용되었다.

  • A study developing the dry powder fire extinguishing system inside the simulated machinery spaces of small ship was performed. Fire tests were conducted inside the compartments having volume $8m^3,\;4.5m^3\;and\;2.9m^3$ respectively. The openings and fans were established on the walls of the compartments. Diesel oil was used for the test fuel. In addition fire extinguishing nozzles using dry powder were installed downward at ceiling and horizontally at the wall or conner. All fires in the test were extinguished under system activation and there was no reignition.

  • A series of model tests was performed to evaluate the survivability of an articulated tower-type buoy structure under harsh environmental conditions. The buoy structure consisted of three long pipes, a buoyancy module, and top equipment. The scale model was made of acrylic pipe and plastic with a scale ratio of 1/22. The experiments were carried out at the ocean engineering basin of KRISO. The performance of the buoy structure was investigated under waves only and under combined environmental conditions from sea state (SS) 5 to 7. A nonlinear time-domain numerical simulation was conducted using the mooring analysis program OrcaFlex. The survivability of the buoy was analyzed based on three factors: the pitch motion, submergence of the top structure, and anchor reaction force. The model test results were directly compared to the results of numerical simulations. The effects of the sea state and combined environment on the performance of the buoy structure were investigated.

  • 선박이 항만이나 협수로에서 항해를 하는 경우 수심 등 환경적인 제한 때문에, 대양에서보다 낮은 속도로 운항하게 된다. 이러한 환경적인 제한 속에서 선박의 조종성능을 정확하게 추정하는 것은 사고의 위험을 줄이는데 필수적이다. 일반적으로, 실험적인 방법을 통해 조종성능을 추정하는 연구에서는 대양에서의 운항속도를 기준으로 이루어지기 때문에 위와 같은 제한 수역에서 낮은 속도로 운항하는 선박의 조종성능을 추정하는데 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 대양에서의 운항 속도와 다른 속도에서 운항하는 선박의 조종성능이 어떻게 변화하는지 확인하고, Whole ship model에서 KT model로 바꾸어 적용하였을 때 이러한 특성이 유치되는지 확인하였다.
