  • This study was conducted to identify the relevance between postpartum women'sfatigue and breast-feeding rate in accordance with the types of rooming-in care at one hospital in Seoul. The data were collected by using a self-report questionnaire between June and July of 2014. All subjects were full-time rooming-in group, with 64 mothers and part time rooming-in group, 43 mothers. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 windows program. The result supported Hypothesis 1, in which the number of full-time rooming-in group's daily breast-feeding would out number that of part time rooming-in group. Hypothesis 2, on the other hand, which was that the breast-feeding rate would differ between the full-time rooming-in and the part-time rooming-in groups was overruled. Hypothesis 3, in which the fatigue of the full-time rooming-in group would be higher than the part-time rooming-in group was supported. Hypothesis 4, in which postpartum women'sfatigue would relate to breast-feeding rate during hospitalization period was overruled. Thus, based on this research, it is suggested that rather than collectively running the full-time rooming-in care, part-time rooming-in care that is individualized with considerations to the conditions of the mothers and new-born should be considered.

  • The study starts from the critical thought on why most of female-headed single-parent families are under poverty regardless of their hard working. The study is to explore the lives of low-income single-parent families as working poor and to develop comprehensive policies for them out of poverty and other social vulnerability, using the concept of social exclusion which has been broadly introduced in the field of social science. Specifically, the study aims to analyse the process of social exclusion of low-income single-parent households, by comparing the differential lives in the economic, social, political aspects among male-headed dual-parent household, female-headed single-parent household, and poor female-headed lone-parent household who is under the public poverty line. The study was based on the secondary data analysis. A total of 3182 samples(the first 2508, the second 235, and the third 439) were included. Using SAS 6.12, frequency, chi-square, means, and ANOVA were utilized for the statistical analysis. Results show that single mothers, on the whole, are vulnerable population in terms of employment, housing stability and income. Also, low-income households of single mothers are more negatively affected by the IMF economic crisis and carry more pessimism on their future. In comparison with male-headed households, single mothers have fewer support from social insurance as well as family resources and higher burdens of additional caring need for the old, the disabled, and the chronically ill. These findings identify the reality in which female-headed households with dependent children are exposed to the overall social vulnerability and thus are easily trapped into the social disadvantaged. finally, the study suggests the development of comprehensive policies and counter-measurements for low-income female-headed families to be the primary member in our society.

  • This study set out to identify the problems with hat labels and to search for improvement measures by examining and analyzing consumers' practice of managing their hats. It also intended to provide accurate and enough information about how to keep and wash hats and thus help consumers use their hats for a long period. In an attempt to investigate how consumers wash and manage their hats, a survey was carried out to 395 individuals in their twenties and over who owned hats living in urban areas including Seoul, and were quota sampled according to age and gender. The survey period is March to April 2007. The collected data were statistically treated with the SPSS 12.0 program in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard error, cross tabulation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The findings were as followed. First, the respondents were in the average level of perceiving and practicing the washing methods of their hats. The female respondents who had more experiences with laundering than the males knew and practiced the washing methods for hats better than males. Second, compared to other clothing items, hat wearers were more likely to pay careful attention to their hats by putting their hats in a laundry net and applying a laundry detergent for wool fabrics when using a washing machine or washing their hats with their own hands. And third, most of the hat wearers were aware of the importance of hat labels and showed a lower level of trust in them than other clothing items. The suppliers need to offer accurate and practical labels in order to regain the consumers' trust. Many consumers had some difficulties figuring out the size system of hats. In particular, the male consumers had a low level of perception of labels, which implies that there should be specific efforts to educate them about general labels.

  • To test survival growth of juvenile abalone, five different diet were constituted. Diet 1, the control, was constituted with white fish meal (15%), soybean meal (25%) and wheat flour (25%); diets 2,3 and 4 were constituted to replace each one of these ingradietns by supplementing Sargossum powder (upto 10 %) and the fifth one by Undularia powder. Survival of these abalones differed significantly. Diet 4 supported the fastest growth. There was no significant difference in the composition of these abalones hence Sargassum can be used as a substitute.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a mother-child shared room on self-confidence in infant care and the practice of breastfeeding by delivering individual education to the mother-child in the shared room. The participants were 50 mothers in the mother-child shared room group and 50 mothers in the mother-child in separate rooms group, all of whom delivered children. The self-confidence in infant care was found to be higher in the mother-child shared room group than the mother-child in separate rooms group. It is necessary to conduct multilateral research into the influential factors on the practice of breastfeeding apart from a variable, namely, the mother-child shared room.

  • There is growing interest in natural cosmetic ingredients as natural cosmetics become popular. As a part of effort to look for natureal cosmetic agent, seaweed Sargassums were tested for functional cosmetic agents. Effective materials were extracted from Sargassum coreanum. Sargassum hemiphyllum, and Sargassum patens by simple hot water extraction. Antioxidation, whitening, anti-wrinkle, UV absorption and anti-inflammation effects were studied for functional cosmetic agents. Sargassum extracts indicated excellent cell viability, strong anti-oxidation effect by DPPH radical scavenging activity and showed significant whitening effect from tyrosinase inhibition. However, effects of antiwrinkle, UV absorption and anti-inflammation were negligible. In conclusion, Sargassum coreanum extracts showed good possibility for anti-oxidation and whitening cosmetic agent.

  • This paper describes experimental results and their analysis on the new test images, called as the McMaster image dataset, to develop demosaicking techniques. The well-known image dataset for demosaicking is so far the Kodak image dataset. However, different results have been reported, as the new image dataset is engaged in developing demosaicking techniques. Thus, we conduct a series of experiments on both the McMaster dataset and the Kodak dataset; we analyze and compare those experimental results; and we provide the peculiar features of the new dataset. Also, the experimental results and their analysis indicate that the McMaster dataset deserves to be a test image dataset for future demosaicking techniques; thus, we expect they can be utilized as basic data for demosaicking.

  • This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of mother-child relation affecting child's resilience through the analysis of structural equation model. The data was collected from the sample of mothers with mental disorders. As a result, psychological symptoms of mothers and mother-child relation had direct effects on the child's resilience. Mother-child relation mediated the effect which psychological symptoms of mothers had on the child's resilience. To reinforce the child's resilience of mothers with mental disorders, the intervention for the managing the mother-child relation is needed.
