Enhancing Science Self-efficacy and Science Intrinsic Motivation through Simulated Teaching-learning for Pre-service Teachers (탐구 기반 모의 수업 실연이 예비 교사들의 과학적 자기 효능감, 과학 내재 동기에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this investigation is to: (1) to derive an improvement factor for inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning in pre-service teacher training programs, and pre-service teachers practice simulated teaching that reflect the improvement factor, (2) to analyze the difference in science intrinsic motivation according to science self-efficacy and inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning experience. To achieve these goals, we recruited five elementary and secondary teachers as experts to help us develop an improvement factor based on expert interviews. Subsequently, third-year pre-service teachers of a university of education participated in our analysis of differences in science intrinsic motivation, according to their level of science self-efficacy and experience with inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning. Our methodology involved applying the analytic hierarchy process to expert interviews to derive improvement factor for inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning, followed by a two-way ANOVA to identify significant differences in science intrinsic motivation between groups with varying levels of science self-efficacy. We also conducted post-analysis through MANOVA statements. The results of our study indicate that inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning can be improved through activities that foster digital literacy, ecological literacy, democratic citizenship, and scientific inquiry skills. Moreover, small group activities and student-centered teaching-learning approaches were found to be effective in developing core competencies and promoting science achievements. Specifically, pre-service teachers prepared a teaching-learning course plan and inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning in seventh-grade in the Earth and Space subject area. Pre-service teachers' science intrinsic motivation analyze significant differences in all levels of science self-efficacy before and after simulated teaching-learning and significant difference in the interaction effect between simulated teaching-learning and scientific self-efficacy. Particularly, group with low scientific self-efficacy, the difference in science intrinsic motivation according to simulated teaching-learning was most significant. Teachers' scientific self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation are needed to improve science achievement and affective domains of students in class. Therefore, this study contributes to suggest inquiry-based simulated teaching-learning reflecting school practices from the pre-service teacher curriculum.

Comparison of Three Preservice Elementary School Teachers' Simulation Teaching in Terms of Data-text Transforming Discourses (Data-Text 변형 담화의 측면에서 본 세 초등 예비교사의 모의수업 시연 사례의 비교)

  • This study investigated the aspects of how three preservice elementary school teachers conducted the data-text transforming discourses in their science simulation teaching and how their epistemological conversations worked for learners' construction of scientific knowledge. Three preservice teachers, who had presented simulation teaching on the seasonal change of constellations, participated in the study. The results revealed that one preservice teacher, who had implemented the transforming discourses of data-to-evidence and model-to-explanation, appeared to facilitate learners' knowledge construction. The other two preservice teachers had difficulty helping learners construct science knowledge due to their lack of transforming discourses. What we should consider for improving preservice elementary school teachers' teaching competencies was discussed based on a detailed comparison of three cases of preservice teachers' data-text transforming.

An Analysis of Pre-service Early Childhood Education Teachers' Perceptions and Demands through Demonstration of Simulated Instruction (예비유아교사의 모의수업 인식 및 요구도 분석)

  • This study examines the perceptions and demands of pre-service early childhood teachers about the Demonstration of simulated instruction for 350 students in early childhood education at 3-4 years university located in Busan, Ulsan, and Gimhae. And through this, the purposes of study are to provide basic data based on the current level of pre-school teachers for instructors leading simulated instruction and to seek effective management plans for simulated instruction to improve teaching ability. As a result of the study, pre-service early childhood teachers recognized that simulated instructions were necessary in teacher training course and helped to improve teaching ability, but they did not actively agree to expand simulated instructions and were not very satisfied with the methods of instructors in demonstration of simulated instruction. They wanted to receive feedback from instructors who have practical teaching knowledge and skills based on field experience at least two times during preparation stage and evaluation stage of the simulated instructions. And they wanted to be guided specifically on principles and methods of preparing educational plans, effective interactions and questions with young children. They wanted the feedback, the most preferred form of feedback is form of participations by all class members and instructors. In addition to instructor's feedback, they required experience of simulated instruction in which infants and toddlers participate together.

Epistemological Implications of Scientific Reasoning Designed by Preservice Elementary Teachers during Their Simulation Teaching: Evidence-Explanation Continuum Perspective (초등 예비교사가 모의수업 시연에서 구성한 과학적 추론의 인식론적 의미 - 증거-설명 연속선의 관점 -)

  • In this study, I took the evidence-explanation (E-E) continuum perspective to examine the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning cases designed by preservice elementary teachers during their simulation teaching. The participants were four preservice teachers who conducted simulation instruction on the seasons and high/low air pressure and wind. The selected discourse episodes, which included cases of inductive, deductive, or abductive reasoning, were analyzed for their epistemological implications-specifically, the role played by the reasoning cases in the E-E continuum. The two preservice teachers conducting seasons classes used hypothetical-deductive reasoning when they identified evidence by comparing student-group data and tested a hypothesis by comparing the evidence with the hypothetical statement. However, they did not adopt explicit reasoning for creating the hypothesis or constructing a model from the evidence. The two preservice teachers conducting air pressure and wind classes applied inductive reasoning to find evidence by summarizing the student-group data and adopted linear logic-structured deductive reasoning to construct the final explanation. In teaching similar topics, the preservice teachers showed similar epistemic processes in their scientific reasoning cases. However, the epistemological implications of the instruction were not similar in terms of the E-E continuum. In addition, except in one case, the teachers were neither good at abductive reasoning for creating a hypothesis or an explanatory model, nor good at using reasoning to construct a model from the evidence. The E-E continuum helps in examining the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning and can be an alternative way of transmitting scientific reasoning.

  • As legal and technological actions to prevent and treat addiction to the Internet have reached their limit, the importance of educational methods as alternative measures is being recognized. The present study was attempted to propose the application of a cyber mock trial system as an educational method to prevent addiction to the Internet and to promote information communication ethics. The mock trial system was designed and implemented so that both open trials and closed trials could be held, and the process and results of trials could be discussed. To verify the effectiveness of learning method of cyber mock trial in preventing and treating addiction to the Internet, this study conducted and analyzed questionnaire survey about juveniles' class preparation, class participation, interest in classes, and the effects of classes.

Pre-service English Teachers' Peer Feedback on Microteaching (초등예비교사의 영어수업시연에 나타난 동료피드백 연구)

  • Pre-service teachers have established and developed their own teaching strategies and professional language teaching skills based on their pedagogical and learning experiences. In this regard, it is conceivable that pre-service teachers' feedback may have distinct viewpoints and focuses. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze pre-service teachers' feedback to microteaching demonstrations. Participants in the study were 40 prospective elementary school teachers. They were invited to offer feedback on microteachings video-recorded by their peers. According to the findings, we identified a total of 708 comments. The majority of feedback was categorized as teacher talk(40.1%) , followed by teaching and learning activity (20.9%), interaction (12.6%), teaching materials (11.4%), classroom atmosphere and learning environment (8.9%), lesson flow (3.7%), review and evaluation (1.3%), and introduction and objectives (1.1%). The most frequent types of feedback were the teacher's use of appropriate speaking rate, tone, and intonation. This finding reflects the fact that English teachers realize the importance of the teacher's English proficiency, therefore we suggest that teacher education institutions need raise awareness not just of teachers' English skills but also of their diverse perspectives.

  • 미국 등 유럽에서는 UDL이 유치원에서부터 대학 교육까지의 모든 과목에 소개되어 모든 학습자가 소외됨 없이 수업에 참여하고, 학습효과를 얻고 있는 실정에 비하여 우리나라는 아직 UDL의 개념조차 교과교육계에 소개되어 있지 않고 있다. 이에 UDL을 통해 최근 교육계의 최대 이슈인 스마트 교육의 이론적 기반을 다지고, 더 나아가 UDL을 통해서 본 스마트 수업관찰 도구를 개발함을 본 연구의 목적으로 한다.

The Development and Applied Case of Earth Science Class Model Based on Flipped Learning (거꾸로 수업기반 지구과학 수업모델 개발 및 적용 사례)

  • This study has developed the earth science class model based on flipped learning and analyzed the effects of that model at the elementary pre-teachers' science classes. The model of this study, the material which was consists of all contents and information about classes was offered to learners before science class as a substitute for preceding homework at general flipped learning. In science class, the knowledges which were recorded in materials were explained directly to learners by instructor for 20minutes. So the learners resolved some inquiry questions in materials through mutual debate collaboration with learners in small group. After inquiry questions' resolving, the learner among small group makes a presentation in front of the whole class. At the same time, the instructor evaluated learning action of all small groups' learners during the classes as process evaluation. The final evaluation results of semester were obtained scores of the small group in 14 classes and the achievements of individual portfolio as final exam. The learners were very positive perception to this science class model, why it is helped to concentrate on the class, extended debating and thinking ability. Consequently, the class model of this study is useful to applicate the earth science classes.

인트라넷(intranet)을 이용한 경영모의게임(Business Simulation Game)의 활용 및 효과

  • 본 연구의 목적은 정보산업의 발달로 급변하고 있는 교육환경하에서 인트라넷(intranet)을 활용한 경영모의게임(Business Simulation Game)의 활용방안을 제시하고, 이러한 수업이 갖는 장점 및 수업효과에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 즉, 학생들이 팀을 이루어 게임을 하는데 있어 남녀별, 직장경험별, MBTI의 특성 별, 팀 구성원의 수의 차이에 따른 게임 성과 및 수업효과와의 상호관계를 실증적으로 비교, 연구하여, 궁극적으로는 한국교육실정에 맞는 인트라넷을 이용한 경영 모의 게임의 개발을 그 목적으로 하고 있다. 근래에 정보 및 통신기술의 발전과 인터넷 사용의 보편화로 여러 가지 학문 분야에서 정보화 및 국제화가 많이 이루어져왔다. 특히 인터넷과 관련된 여러 가지 기술(technology)들을 적극적으로 통합, 활용하고자 하는 인트라넷(intranet)의 발전은 정보기술의 여러 학문 분야에서의 활용가능성을 더욱 높이고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 이러한 인터넷, 정보 및 통신기술의 교육현장에서의 활용 방안에 대한 많은 연구들은 실질적으로 그 이론적 배경 및 효과에 대한 깊은 연구없이 종래의 교육방법에 대한 대안 또는 보조 역할로서의 가능성만 제시하고 있는 형편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 첫째, 경영모의게임과 정보통신기술의 활용을 위한 학술진흥방안의 하나로서 인트라넷을 이용한 경영모의게임 과목의 구축및 수행에 관한 구체적인 절차를 제시한다. 즉 경영모의게임 구성은 어떤 모듈들이 어떻게 인터넷상에서 사용되었으며, 도한 게임의 운영은 어떻게 하는것이 바람직한가 등에 관한 연구이다. 둘째, 성별, 직장경험별, MBTI 특성별, 팀의 크기별로 게임성과 및 수업효과에 관한 실증적 연구를 함으로써, 게임 이론의 경영마인드 형성 및 정보화에서 예견 될수 있는 여러 가지 문제점 및 가능성을 지적하여, 한국문화 및 현실에 맞는 정보화를 이용한 경영모의게임 교육방안을 제시한다. 셋째, 본 연구는 의사결정지원 시스템(DSS), 전문가 시스템(ES), 전자우편(E-mail)등과 같은 정보기술의 교육현장에서의 활용방안 및 그 교육적 효과도 점검하였으며, 마지막으로 본 연구는 당면현실로 다가온 정보화 및 세계화의 기업환경에서 예견되는 몰입(committment)의 약화에 대한 치유방안으로서, 정보화된 경영모의게임의 기업 교육훈련 시스템(Business Training System)으로의 발전 가능성을 제시한다 하겠다.

The Effect of Web-Aided Laboratory on Molecular Dynamics of High School Physics Course (고등학교 물리의 기체 분자 운동론에서 웹 활용 모의실험이 학습에 미치는 효과)

  • A developed Web-aided laboratory program visualized invisible gas. In the Web-aided laboratory temperature and pressure were controlled and the resultant findings were presented as types of graphs, disclosed in the form of an analyzed report. A Web-aided laboratory experiment and traditional experiment group(2 classes) were assembled from a farming village co-educational high school and taught the motion of molecule lesson for 2 class hours. Before actual class instruction, to survey learner motivation characteristics, the short-version GALT, the test of attitudes toward science instruction, was administered. After instruction, student learning achievement, TOSRA, and IMMS, were administered to the two groups. To analyze data ANCOVA was administrated. Result found that attitudes towards science instruction did not significantly differ, but learning motivation and achievement were significantly altered.
