Analysis of Current Perception Threshold(CPT) Change after Dental Surgery using Neurometer (치과 수술 후 뉴로미터를 이용한 전류인지역치의 변화의 분석)

  • The goal of this study is to contribute to the clinical application by making a quantitative nerve current perception threshold(CPT) examination for the evaluation of numbness that could be occurred after dental surgery, Measurement of CPTs at each different frequencies(2000 Hz, 250 Hz, and 5 Hz) were performed to trigeminal nerve main branch(mandibular division) of 29 patients with dental surgery on mandibular area and 25 normal subjects. There were significant differences in CPTs between patient group and control group.(p<0.05) But, there were no significant between patient male and female in both patient and control group except 2000 Hz was significantly high in the control female.

Effect of Red Bean Protein and Microbial Transglutaminase on Gelling Properties of Myofibrillar Protein (적소두단백질(Red Bean Protein)과 Transglutaminase를 첨가한 돈육 근원섬유 단백질의 물성 증진 효과)

  • The effects of soy protein isolate (SPI) and red bean protein isolate (RBPI) on gelling properties of pork myofibrillar protein (MP) in the presence of microbial transglutaminase (MTG) were studied at 0.45 M NaCl. MP paste was incubated with MTG (0.1%) at various levels (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1%) of SPI and RBPI before incubating at $4^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The rheological property results showed that MP gel shear stress increased with increasing RBPI concentration. Cooking yield (CY) of the MP gel increased with increasing RBPI and SPI, whereas gel strength (GS) was not affected by adding RBPI or SPI. Thus, effects of incubation time (0, 4, 8, 10, and 12 h) were measured at 0.1% SPI and RBPI. GS values of the MP gel at 10 and 12 h were similar and were higher than those of the others. CY values were highest when RBPI (0.1%) was added, regardless of incubation time. The protein patterns indicated that incubating the MP with MTG for 10 h resulted in protein crosslinking between MP and RBPI or SPI. Based on these results, RBPI and SPI could be used as an ingredient to increase textural properties and cooking yield of meat protein gel.

An Experimental Study on the Period of Cold Joint Occurrence Effecting Shear Bond Performances of UHSCC (콜드조인트 발생시간이 초고강도 섬유보강 시멘트 복합체의 전단 접착 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance on the compressive bonding shear strength of ultra-high strength steel fiber reinforced cementitous composites(UHSCC). As a result of compressive bonding shear strength through Direct shear test, It was found that the specimen($150{\times}150{\times}150mm$) of NC(Normal concrete) + NC showed similar compressive bonding shear strength at whole experimental level. On the other hand, the specimen of UHSCC + UHSCC showed decrease of compressive bonding shear strength from after 30 minutes of the retarded placement than 0 minute. As a result of analyzing failure mode of bonding interface, It was found that the specimen of NC + NC showed mixed failure at whole experimental level. In case of the specimen of UHSCC + UHSCC, it showed interface failure from the specimen that are 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes of delay of concrete placing. As a result of analyzing XRD test in terms of the placement interface on the specimen of NC and UHSCC, relatively much amount of $SiO_2$ was detected from the specimen of UHSCC than that of NC. It is judged that the most of main components of coating film shown in the specimen of UHSCC is $SiO_2$. In conclusion, it is judged that UHSCC which is made from after 30 minutes of delay of concrete placing is unable to be used as structural member because of deterioration of bonding performance. From later study, it is judged that the improvement of bonding performance from the part of cold joint occurrence is necessary through the interface preparation method.

In Vitro Anticancer and Antioxidant Effect of Solvent Extracts from Tuna Dried at Low Temperature Vacuum. (저온진공건조 참치추출물의 in vitro 항암 및 항산화 효과)

  • We investigated the inhibitory effects of solvent extracts from dried tuna on the growth of cancer cell lines (HT1080 human fibrosarcoma and HT-29 human colon cancer cells) and $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress. Inhibitory effects of acetone with methylene chloride (A+M) and methanol (MeOH) extracts on the growth of HT1080 and HT-29 cancer cells increased in a dose dependent manner (p<0.05). The inhibitory effect was more significant on the growth of HT1080 cells, and A+M extracts had a higher inhibitory effect compared to MeOH extracts. The treatments of hexane, 85% aq. methanol, butanol and water fractions significantly inhibited the growth of both cancer cells (p<0.05). Among the fractions, hexane and 85% aq. methanol fractions showed higher inhibitory effects. In order to determine the protective effect on $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress, a DCHF-DA (dichlorodihydrofluorescin diacetate) assay was conducted. All fractions, including crude extracts of dried tuna, appeared to significantly reduce the levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) with dose responses (p<0.05). Among the fractions, BuOH and 85% methanol fractions showed a higher protective effect on the production of lipid peroxides. These results indicate that the consumption of tuna may be recommended as a potent functional food for preventing cellular oxidation and cancer.

Arthroscopic Outside-in Repair of Tears of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (삼각 섬유연골 복합체의 파열에 대한 관절경적 Outside-in 봉합술)

  • Purpose: We repoted the clinical results and introduction of surgical techniques for the patients with tears of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) who had arthroscopic management. Materials and Methods: According to Palmer classification, nine patients(9 wrists) with type 1B lesions of the triangular fibrocartilage complex from 2001 to 2004 were included in this study. The mean follow-up period was 28 months. Six were male and three were female, right side was in seven cases and left side in two cases. Nine patients received arthroscopic debridement and repair by outside-in technique. To assess the clinical outcomes, the visual analogue pain scale(VAPS), grip strength, range of motion were investigated. Results: The average of VAPS improved from 6.2 to 1.4. The grip strength of wrists of all nine patients improved after surgery and the range of motion of all wrists reached full range. Conclusion: Arthroscopic repair of type 1B tear of the triangular fibrocartilage complex has satisfactory results. The repair by outside-in technique was simple and we could have secure fixation.

Development of Surface Pavement Materials for Environment-Friendly Farm Road (환경친화형 경작로를 위한 표층포장재료의 개발)

  • This study was performed to examine the physical and mechanical properties of eco-concrete using soil, natural coarse aggregate, soil compound and polypropylen fiber. The mass loss ratio was decreased with increasing the content of coarse aggregate and soil compound. The compressive strength, flexural strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity were increased with increasing the content of coarse aggregate, soil compound and polypropylene fiber. The compressive and flexural strengths were showed in 8.07 MPa and 2.641 MPa at the curing age 28 days, respectively. The coefficient of permeability was decreased with increasing the content of coarse aggregate and soil compound, but it was increased with increasing the content of polypropylene fiber. The lowest coefficent of permeability was showed in $5.066{\times}10^{-9}cm/s$.

An Experimental Studies on the alleviation effects of Daebangpoongtang(大防風湯) in LPS-induced arthritis (대방풍탕(大防風湯)의 LPS유발(誘發) 관절염(關節炎) 완화효과(緩和效果)에 관한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate the alleviation effects of Daebangpoongtang in LPS induced arthritis in mice knee joint. Methods : Daebangpoongtang was chosen to treat the arthritis caused by injecting $300{\mu}g/kg$ LPS to mice knee joint. The control group had no treatment, while the LPS group was injected $300{\mu}g/kg$ LPS to mice knee joint and the DBP group was oral administrated of Daebangpoongtang. After injection of $300{\mu}g/kg$ LPS to mice knee joint, the alteration of synovial lining cell, vessel, fibrosis, distribution of collagen fiber, fibroblast, mast cell, infiltration of inflammation component cell and distribution of ICAM and VCAM was observed by light microscope(BX50). Results : In the DBP extract treatment group, the distribution of vessel, the enlargement of synovial lining cell layer, the synovial lining cells with filopodia, the fibrosis, the distribution of fibroblast in synovial membrane, the distribution of TCAM and VCAM on the knee joint was less than that of LPS group. Infiltrated lymphocyte into the apical surface had not observed in the DBP extract treatment group. The distribution of mast cell was as same as control group(no treatment group) and it showed granulated type. Conclusion: According to the above results, it might be considered that the administration of Daebangpoongtang has a curative effect on synovial membrane injury in arthritis by inhibiting increase of vessel, cell adhesion molecule(ICAM and VCAM) in LPS induced arthritis.

Nitrogen Removal in Column Wetlands Packed with Synthetic Fiber Treating Piggery Stormwater (축산단지 강우 유출수 처리를 위한 합성섬유충진 습지의 질소제거에 관한 연구)

  • A set of lab-scale polymer synthetic fiber packed column wetlands composing three columns (CW1, CW2 and CW3) with different hydraulic regimes, recirculation frequencies and pollutant loading rates, were operated in 2012. Synthetic fiber tested as an alternative wetland medium for soil mixture or gravel which has been widely used, has very high pore size and volume, so that clogging opportunity can be greatly avoided. The inflow to the wetland was artificial stormwater. All the wetlands achieved effective removal of TSS (94%~96%), TCOD (68%~73%), TN (35%~58%), TKN (62%~73%) and NH4-N (85%~ 99%). Particularly, it was observed that COD was released from the fiber during one distinct period in all wetlands. This was probably due to the degradation of polymer fiber, and the released organic matters were found to serve as carbon source for denitrification. In addition, with longer retention time and frequent recirculation, lower effluent concentration was observed. With higher pollutant loading rate, higher nitrification and denitrification rates were achieved. However, although organic matters were released from the fiber, the lack of carbon source was still the limiting factor for the system since the release persisted only for 40 days.

Changes in the Non-cellulosic Neutral Sugars of Cell Wall of Persimmon Fruit by Treatment of Cell Wall-Degrading Enzymes (세포벽 분해효소의 처리에 따른 감과실의 세포벽 구성 비섬유성 중성당의 변화)

  • This paper was performed to investigate the changes of non-cellulosic neutral sugars composition in cell wall of persimmon fruit by treatment of cell wall degrading enzyme in vitro. Rhamnose, xylose and galactose in cell wall by polygalacturonase treatment, arabinose, galactose and rhamnose in cell wall by mixed enzyme treatment and arabinose and galactose in cell wall by ${\beta}-galactosidase$ treatment decreased, respectively. Noncellulosic neutral sugars of pectins extracted cell wall by enzyme treatments decreased and those by polygalacturonase treatment decreased remarkably. Rhamnose, arabinose and xylose in hemicellulose I of cell wall by polygalacturonase treatment were higher than those of untreated, and rhamnose and xylose in that by ${\beta}-galactosidase$ treatment were higher but arabinose, mnnose and galactose decreased. Xylose, mannose and glucose in that by mixed enzyme treatment were higher than those of untreatment and arabinose and galactose decreased. Contents of total non-cellulosic neutral sugars in hemicellulose of untreatment, and contents xylose, and glucose in hemicellulose II of cell wall by polygalacturonase treatmet decreased but those of other treatments were not changed.

Change in the Chemical Characteristics of Aralia continentalis Kitagawa Leaf-Kimchi during Storage Periods (저장기간에 따른 땅두릅 잎김치의 화학적 특성 변화)

  • In this study, the chemical characteristics of $Aralia$ $continentalis$ Kitagawa (AcK) $leaf-kimchi$ prepared using different seasonings were examined during storage. In the analysis, no visible changes in the degree of total vitamin C, reducing sugar and total chlorophyll in the $AcK$ $leaf-kimchi$ preserved products were observed over the storage period, and showed a relatively high retention rate was reported. Among the chemicals in the $AcK$ $leaf-kimchi$ preserved products, dietary fiber decreased with the storage period, the soluble dietary fiber (SDF) and insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) decreased, and the total dietary fiber(TDF) remained unchanged (5.27~5.56%). Total chlorophyll decreased after the $1^{st}$ month, increased after the 3rd month and then decreased again. The total soluble solid content increased throughout the storage period.
