  • The school library provides a mobile web service that allows access to the library catalog system, and provides services that reflect the needs of search and consider the characteristics of mobile devices. Therefore, this study conducted a literature review, an analysis of the current status of school library mobile web services, and a survey of the mobile service user experience of students and teachers to find the contents and service plans for school library mobile app services that meet the school library mobile needs. Based on the survey, the contents and design plan of the school library DLS mobile service was prepared. First, the steps were reduced from step 4 to step 3. In the first step, solution of screen clipping errors in registering as a member and various login platforms for accessibility are needed. In the second step, integrated search and detailed search, provision of materials for use and reading education, post-booking activities, guides and announcements on the use of the affiliated school library, inter-loan, and e-books are provided as main menu. In the third step, it was proposed to provide related functions such as reservations as well as the display of the detailed screen of the search results of the collection. This study can be used not only to develop dedicated mobile app services, but also to change current web-based mobile services.

  • Since mobile internet technology emerging from late 1990's provides anytime and anywhere accessibility to information, mobile is adapted in the various field to increase efficiency of work. After looking into the trend of mobile contents services, case studies of information services using mobile were investigated in this paper. Library information services are providing retrieval of library OPAC and verifications of circulation and return date using mobile internet technology. In addition, various notice services using short message service(SMS) of mobile are available. Considering growing mobile users and advancement of related technology, more information services utilizing mobile should be developed in near future.

  • The study aims to develop a mobile library model for universities that can be adapted to offer suitable library information and services to smart phone users. To do this, we conducted a case study using four foreign and domestic mobile libraries as well as a user study with 212 participants and questionnaires. In addition, we also administered a survey with 160 librarians. Based on the results of case and user/librarian studies, we proposed a mobile library model in which an access and navigation methods are described and nine key information and services including catalog search, code reader and SNS services are proposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence users' intention to use mobile services in academic libraries, based on the Davis' Technology Acceptance Model. This study employed both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, which were core variables in TAM, and added perceived playfulness that was recently applied to many researches on mobile system acceptance intention. As external variables, ubiquitous ability, context awareness, and mobile internet self-efficacy were employed. The data was collected from 325 surveys from two academic libraries and was analyzed with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 21.0. As a result, perceived usefulness was the most significant factor in predicting users' acceptance intention and perceived ease of use was an indirect determinant of service usage. But perceived playfulness was not significantly correlated. Ubiquitous ability among external variables had a significant effect on perceived usefulness, context awareness did on both perceived playfulness and ease of use, and mobile internet self-efficacy did on perceived ease of use. Based on the findings, this study discussed theoretical and practical implications in academic library mobile service area.

  • In this study, the characteristics and types of 1D, 2D barcodes were examined. It is necessary to provide mobile services by making full use of the advantages of the technologies, such as 1D, 2D barcodes, and RFID, and by complementing the disadvantages of them mutually in Korea. Especially, in a mobile environment where the spread of smart phones and mobile networks are expanding, barcodes and RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) were analyzed as a very useful information media which is able to connect offline analogue media and online digital media. In addition, library automation systems and the cases of mobile student ID services using barcodes and RFID in Korean libraries were analyzed. The cases of mobile services using barcodes in foreign countries were also analyzed. With these cases, we propose a method to empower mobile services using barcodes in Korean libraries.

  • This study explored the concept of context-aware computing and its application to the library and information services. Context-aware computing represents mobile computing techniques which gather, analyze user's contextual information and provide appropriate information services for the specific user. The idea was proposed in the late 90's but it was not widely available to the public because of the technology limitation. Recent technology development made context-aware computing possible to apply to our everyday-life information seeking using smart phone and showed the usefulness of its application. This study introduced the concept of context-aware computing with some examples of it, and finally tried to propose some of its applications to the library and information services.

  • This paper aims to examine how users view information services that use today's rapidly expanding smart phones and what their demands are. The research focus is specifically on public libraries where related studies or the provision of services is still lacking. For this study, users of public libraries were targeted for surveys and interviews. The results that Public library users showed positive views on using library information services and e-contents service on smart phones. But the users viewed smart phones as another point of access in accessing information services, not as something revolutionary to the existing library information services.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the progress of the implementation of the Servicebased Library 2.0 in Korean university libraries. We assess the Service-based Library 2.0 based on the web site analysis of 179 different Korean university libraries. Highlights of our survey include: (1) The most accessed features of the Service-based Library 2.0, were the 'Book Review', 'RSS', 'Tag & Tagging', 'Mobile App', 'Facet' and 'Open API'. (2) Among 179 libraries, of the 16 different services offered by the Service-based Library 2.0, 145 libraries opted for 4 or fewer services offered through the Service, 3 libraries opted for 5-9 services and 3 libraries availed themselves of 10 or more services. (3) More national university libraries than private libraries are implementing Service-based Library 2.0, including such services as 'Book Review', 'RSS', 'Mobile App', 'Facet', 'Blog', 'Twitter', 'Personnel service', 'SMS', 'Facebook'.

  • The concept of ubiquitous is being applied already in Korean public libraries, and ubiquitous technologies are becoming intensively in RFID system and mobile service. This research is a survey study to analyze RFID system and mobile service in Korean public libraries which sees ubiquitous age. The RFID system investigation executed manager group of 15 public libraries where the RFID system is constructed and the 259 person user groups which are the experience which uses the RFID system. It analyzed the construction and management, the percieved system benefits, the use satisfaction, and the technical and ethical problems of the RFID system. And mobile service investigation executed 20 public libraries which provide a mobile service. It analyzed the current condition of construction and the problems on management of the mobile service. At the analysis result, the study suggested the concrete plan to activate the RFID system and mobile service in Korean public libraries.
