As the mobilization trends of library services increase in quantity, we need to more focus on what mobile services users want, ultimately for the growth with quality. This study seeks to explore users' needs and uses of mobile library services and then suggests solutions for improving the mobile services in academic libraries. This study conducted on and off-line surveys with 608 students from two universities, which have provided active mobile services with both a mobile web site and an application. The questionnaire was designed to elicit information on respondents' frequency of mobile library visit, the purpose of visit, the reason to use/not use, how to access to the services, the preferred types of the services, satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors, and urgently needed improvements. Based on the findings, this study discussed strategies to improve the quality of mobile services and to increase in users' visit.

This study analyzed the mobile library services for the mobile webs established by 4 university libraries in Korea and 56 belonging to ARL in the United States. It examined 42 mobile applications developed by universities and university libraries in Korea, and 18 mobile applications developed by the universities and university libraries belonging to ARL in the United States. Mobile accessibility was assessed by conducting mobileOK test for the mobile websites of the same libraries. The study shows that university libraries in Korea should establish mobile websites focusing on key contents which reflect the demand for mobile information of users, and secure mobile web accessibility which the users could conveniently use.

  • In this study, we analyzed the academic library websites in terms of information structure, navigation, and labeling system. The study showed that the information structure was linear. In analyzing 8 library sites, we found many common top-level categories but ultimately, the number of main menu ranged from 4 to 15 categories. Also, the results showed that the sites used a sub-domain such as mobile, or just m to keep it short. It seemed to keep the mobile site part of the library site without creating confusion. Finally, Labeling in some mobile sites was not clear and consistent.

  • This paper aims to develop an evaluation model for library mobile services in terms of service quality. First, a literature review of the service quality evaluation model and the mobile library service evaluation was conducted. Then, based on the analysis, the evaluation model consisting of 4 quality dimensions, 10 quality factors, 39 quality measurement items was developed. Delphi method was applied to verify the validity of the model. Finally, a final model consisting of 4 quality dimensions, 9 quality factors, and 37 quality measurement items was derived. The evaluation model proposed in this study can be used as a measure of library mobile service quality and can be used as a guideline for improvement of library mobile service.
