  • The multibeam surveillance radar is a state-of-art of 3D radar technology. It applies the stacked beams realized by a digital beamformer. In this paper, a hybrid compensation technique on elevation angle errors for low elevation angle targets over the sea in multipath radar environments is proposed. The proposed method can be applied to stacked beam radars. Double null algorithm based on maximum likelihood method in 3-D beamspace domain works well unless the phase difference between the two rays(direct and specular path) is close to $0^{\circ}$ and the magnitude of reflection coefficient is close to 0. To overcome these problems, we propose a hybrid compensation technique which uses the selective double null algorithm and the beam-ratio compensation technique for low-elevation errors on a log scale. Results of computer simulation show that the proposed method outperform conventional monopulse method and double null algorithm only under various multipath environments.

  • One of the effective methods for angular deception against monopulse radar is a cross eye technique. The typical cross eye technique can cause significant angular errors to monopulse radar by using two transceivers which transmit the signals with opposite phases. However, typical cross eye systems have high complexity of implementation because two transceivers should be installed with enough distance on the platform. In this paper, we propose a new cross eye technique with single transceiver based on the multipath effect. Then, angular deception performance of the proposed technique is analyzed.

  • In this paper, X-band transceiver for high resolution wideband SAR systems is designed and fabricated. Also as a technique for enhancing the performance, error compensation algorithm is presented. The transceiver for SAR system is composed of transmitter, receiver, switch matrix and frequency generator. The receiver especially has 2 channel mono-pulse structure for ground moving target indication. The transceiver is able to provide the deramping signal for high resolution mode and select the receive bandwidth for receiving according to the operation mode. The transceiver had over 300 MHz bandwidth in X-band and 13.3 dBm output power which is appropriate to drive the T/R module. The receiver gain and noise figure was 39 dB and 3.96 dB respectively. The receive dynamic range was 30 dB and amplitude imbalance and phase imbalance of I/Q channel was ${\pm}$0.38 dBm and ${\pm}$3.47 degree respectively. The transceiver meets the required electrical performances through the individual tests. This paper shows the pulse error term depending on SAR performance was analyzed and range IRF was enhanced by applying the compensation technique.

  • Research for the inverse estimation of RF threats and the efficient electronic attack based on the parameters of the electronic information has been active in the electronic warfare (EW) situations. In this paper, an EW transmission simulator is constructed from the modeling of radar threats, EW receivers, and propagation environments with the collected electronic information in order to verify the performance of the inverse estimation algorithm in various and practical EW situations. In simulation results, we show that the range tracking error and angle tracking error are produced within ten meters and one degree, respectively. And also, we show that the changing relations between the angle tracking error and the parameters of the monopulse angle tracking radar such as the beamwidth and squint angle in simulation results correspond with those in the theoretical modeling. Accordingly, the constructed EW simulator can be used to observe the modifying characteristics of the electronic information in transmission environments, and then, to evaluate the performance of the inverse estimation system in various EW situations.

  • This paper describes the development of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) system using UWB impulse radar with 48 Channel array. GPR is an effective alternative technology to resolve th disadvantages of metal detectors. Metal detectors have a very low detection probability of non-metallic landmine and high false alarm rates caused by metallic materials under the ground. In this paper, we use the mono-cycle pulse waveform with about 600 ps pulse width to obtain high resolution landmine microwave images. In order to analyze performances of this system, we utilize indoor test facility that made up of rough sandy loam which representative Korean soil. The mimic landmine models of metal/non-metal and anti-tank/anti-personnel landmines buried in DMZ (demilitarized zone) of Korea are used to analyze the detection depth and the shape of the mines using microwave image.

  • In this paper, the design and fabrication of slot array in the broad wall of the waveguide for Ka-band monopulse radar are discussed. The aperture distributions are designed for the desired antenna gain, beamwidth and Side-lobe Level(SLL), and then slot parameters, such as lengths and offsets, are obtained for corresponding to each slot admittance in the equivalent circuit by using Elliot's array synthesis procedure. MWS-CST simulation shows the return loss below -10 dB, antenna gain above 32 dBi, 3 dB beamwidth of 3.7 degree and SLL of -20 dB. In order to demonstrate the expected results, the designed antenna is fabricated and measured.
