  • The performance of a monopulse estimator is depend on its monopulse ratio(MR) curve. To improve its performance, a mathematical expression of the MR curve that is associated with an array the parameters is needed. In this paper, we present a novel monopulse estimator that uses the inverse function of a MR curve for the Maximum Likelihood (ML)-based monopulse estimator. It is shown that the proposed method can extend the linear region of the MR curve, which in turn improve the estimation accuracy. Moreover, it's performance is compared with the ML-based method through simulation.

  • In this paper, a design method for a dual-band monopole antenna operating in the bands of 2.45 GHz WLAN and UWB is studied. A monopole antenna operating in UWB band is first designed, and a slot is inserted on the monopole to operate in 2.45 GHz WLAN band. The optimized dual-band monopole antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a dual-band characterisitc in WLAN and UWB bands with the frequency bands of 2.35-2.50 GHz and 2.99-11.82 GHz for a VSWR < 2. Measured gain is 1 dBi at 2.45 GHz, and ranges 1.5-4.6 dBi in the frequency band of 3.1-10.6 GHz.

  • There is a dazzling display of colors used in contemporary visual media. The flood of color image in films leads to the application of partial colors onto the monotonous image, which is one of the reverse phenomena in this field of visual media. Nowadays, it became possible to revise the colors of moving images through computer graphics, and the excessive use of colors has a tendency to make visual impact uninteresting. The attempt is applied in a variety of ways from making video commercials and music videos as well as films. In particular, the application of partial color in the monotonous image in films such as Schindler's List(1993) and Sin City(2005) gave scores of audiences a fresh shock and added the depth of moving image. The purpose of this study is to examine how the principles and properties of the color affect us and how the application of monotone shows its effectiveness in moving images. By analyzing various case studies, this paper will propose and validate the progressive value toward the application of moving images in combination in the future.

  • Monopulse RADAR is the radar which detects the range of the target using a single transmitted signal. In this paper, using 9.41GHz X-band radar, the research for the phase comparison monopulse algorithm used in the marine environment is conducted. In addition, by applying the phase comparison monopulse algorithm, we calculate the RMSE for the various antenna spacings and the positions of the target. Based on that result, we compare the performance of the phase comparison monopulse algorithm in the uniform linear array with that in the non-uniform linear array. Finally, the differences in performance among the MUSIC algorithm, Bartlett method and the proposed phase comparison monopulse algorithm are analyzed.

  • The mode of the combined effect of adipic acid and medium chain monoglycerides was investigated by using nine strain. Though monoglycerides alone had little antibacterial activity against gram negative strains, the combined use with adipic acid showed much higher activity against others of gram positive strains as well as gram negative strains. But exceptionally, it seemed difficult practically to prevent the growth of lactic acid bacteria completely by the combined use of adipic acid and monoglyceride. For yeast and mold, monoglycerides alone had a high activity but adipic acid had a little activity. In antibacterial mechanism, we thought that adipic acid acted on the cell envelope and then monoglyceride acted on the altered cell.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of radar target classification using the monostatic and bistatic radar cross section(RCS) for four different wire targets. Short time Fourier transform(STFT) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) were used for feature extraction from the monostatic RCS and the bistatic RCS of each target, and a multi-layered perceptron(MLP) neural network was used as a classifier. Results show that CWT yields better performance than STFT for both the monostatic RCS and the bistatic RCS. And, when STFT was used, the performance of the bistatic RCS was slightly better than that of the monostatic RCS. However, when CWT was used, the performance of the monostatic RCS was slightly better than that of the bistatic RCS. Resultingly, it is proven that bistatic RCS is a good cadndidate for application to radar target classification in combination with a monostatic RCS.

  • The broadband input impedance, the input power and the radiation pattern of the monopole antenna attached to the handy phone operated at 800MHz are calculated by using the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) Method. For the FDTD analysis of frequency characteristics of monopole antenna, the handy phone is modeled with the geometry that the monopole antenna is connected to a conducting box, and the modified FDTD algorithm[11] used the thin wire appproximation method and the Maxwell's integral equation from the original Yee algorithm is applied for the analysis of the wire structure. Also, by means of finding the current distribution directly from circumferencial magnetic filelds around the monopole antenna and the conducting box, the radiation pattern is calculated to observe the influence of the conducting box, and is compared with the results of the known mothod for the FDTD calculation of radiation pattern, For the experiments, the handy phone of which full length including antenna is .lambda. $\lambda$/2 is manufactured and we confirm that all computation results are agree well with the mea- sured values.

  • The monopulse tracking algorithm can estimate the location of a partner station based on an RF (Radio Frequency) signal. The location of the partner station is estimated based on the monopulse ratio curve (MR-C), which is calculated based on the sum and difference signal patterns of an antenna. Therefore, the range in which the estimated location can be calculated with high accuracy increases in proportion to the linear region of MR-C. In this paper, we proposed a method to extend the linear region of the MR-C curve using the beamforming technique for the tracking antenna system using the active phased array antenna. Simulation results based on the same antenna system, it was confirmed that the linear region of MR-C was enlarged by about twice as much as the general case where the proposed method was not applied.

  • This study was attempted to generate a monoclonal antibody against human $\alpha$-fetoprotein (AFP) and to produce an immunoassay, recognizing AFP in plasma and amniotic fluid. AFP was purified from human amniotic fluid and used to immunize mice. Spleens were taken from the mice and the cells were fused with mouse myeloma cells (Sp2/0-Ag-14) for the production of monoclonal antibodies by employing the hybridoma technology. As a result, a hybridoma cell line producing anti-AFP monoclonal antibody was cloned out and designated as MabF22. From isotyping analysis, it was found that monoclonal antibody MabF22 was IgG type with IgG1 heavy chain and k light chain. The binding specificity of MabF22 was analyzed by immunoblotting as well as by ELISA. MabF22 was highly specific, reacting with only AFP-containing samples. The binding affinity was determined by ELISA (free-capture mode) and Scatchard analysis. As a result, the value of Kd was 0.8$\times$10$^{-10}$M. The validity of the MabF22 for AFP assay was examined by two kinds of ELISAs, i.e., non-competitive and competitive ELISA. Both assays revealed that MabF22 reacted well with AFP in sample in a concentration-dependent manner. Standard curve and antibody titration curve were obtained by using purified AFP and MabF22. These results indicate that the monoclonal antibody produced in this study would be useful not only for research purposes but also for further development of immune-diagnostic kit for the measurement of AEP concentration.
