  • A pathogenic free-living amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis to human and experimental animals. This infection is rare, but the mortality is very high. Nowadays, drug treatment or active immunization of human or mice are being tried with partial effectiveness. This study shows passive immunization effect by transfer of immunized spleen cells, serum, or milk from immunized mother in mouse experimental model. Young BALB/c mice were immunized intraperitoneally with $2~3{\times}10^{6}$ trophozoites of N. fowleri, and spleen cells and sera were collected for injection to recipient mice. There were seven transfer groups, i.e., immunized mouse serum, spleen cells, serum and spleen cells, normal mouse serum, spleen cells, serum and spleen cells, and control group. Three days later, BALB/c mice were inoculated with $1{\times}10^{4}$ trophozoites of N. fowleri intranasally. After infection, decreased mortality ana prolonged survival time of mice were noted in immunized Bloops compared with non.immuniBed control group. The groups Injected with immunized spleen cells or normal serum shewed lower moltality than that of controls bult showed no changes of Serum IgG level. The groups injected with immunized serum or normal spleen cells showed increased serum IgG level after immunization but hundred percent mortality was observed. Mother mice were ifnfnunised increperitqneeliy with $2~3{\times}10^{6}$ trephozoites of N. fowleri at the end of pregnancy and weaning Period. Soon after the delivery, Jitters born of non-immunszed mother were matched with immunized mother for feeding immune milk. After three weeks, the litters were infected with $1{\times}10^{4}$ trophozeites of N. fowleri or sacrificed for serum collection to measure the IgG levels. The results show that anti-JV. fowleri IgG from mother was transferred to litter through milk but this IgG did not inauence the mortality or survival time of the infected mice.

  • Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia(IMHA) is one of the most common causes of anemia in small animals and immune-mediate thrombocytopenia(IMT) is also an immune mediated disease that affects small animals. The initial treatment for IMHA and IMT is medical suppression of the immune system with glucocorticoids and other immunosuppressive drugs. However, even with appropriate treatments, some animals are not responsive to the treatment and may need further immunosuppressive therapies or some alternative medicines. An eight-year-old spayed female Siamese cat with IMHA and an eight-year-old castrated male King Charles Spaniel dog with IMT were referred to the traditional medical service of the veterinary medical center. Both animals were unresponsive to steroids or other immunosuppressive treatments. Gui-Pi-Tang, one of the traditional herbal medicines, was administered to the animals. After 1-month of Gui-Pi-Tang administration, the packed cell volume(PCV) of the cat and platelets count of the dog had showed remarkable improvement. After four months of follow up in the cat, and 18 months of follow up in the dog, the improved PCV and platelet counts of the animals were maintained normally. Therefore, Gui-Pi-Tang might be considered as an alternative treatment in small animals with immune-mediated blood disorders.

  • The regional distributions and relative frequencies of some gastrointestinal endocrine cells in the 8 portions (fundus, pylorus, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, colon and rectum) of the gastrointestinal tract of ICR mouse (ICR) with immunohistochemical method using 7 types of specific antisera against somatostatin, serotonin, glucagon, cholecystokinin (CCK)-8, secretin, pancreatic polypeptide (PP) and gastrin. In this study, somatostatin-, serotonin-, glucagon-, CCK-8-, secretin- and gastrin-immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified. Most of these IR cells in the intestinal portion were generally spherical or spindle in shape (open-typed cell) while cells showing round in shape (close-typed cell) were found in the stomach regions occasionally. Their relative frequencies were varied according to each portion of gastrointestinal tract. Somatostatin-IR cells were demonstrated throughout whole gastrointestinal tract except for large intestine. Serotonin-IR cells were detected throughout whole gastrointestinal tract and they were most predominant endocrine cell types in this species of mouse. Glucagon-IR cells were restricted to the fundus and rectum with moderate and a few frequencies, respectively. CCK-8-IR cells were observed in the pylorus, duodenum and ileum with numerous, moderate and rare frequencies, respectively. Secretin-IR cells were restricted to the duodenum and ileum with a few and rare frequencies, respectively. Gastrin-IR cells were restricted to the pylorus with numerous frequency. However, no PP-IR cells were found in this study. In conclusion, some peculiar distributional patterns of gastrointestinal endocrine cells were found in the ICR mouse compared to those of other mammals.

  • According to the rapid growth of computer and internet recently, A hacking to steal infonnations and the computer vinls to destroy the data in computer are now prevailing in the whole world. A study of methods to protect the data of computer is in progress. One of the study is constmction of computer immune system using biological immune system tbat has ability of removal and protection from extemal invasion. In this paper, we make a change detection algorithm which is based on ability of distinction between self and nonself in T-cytotoxic cell that is one of biological immune cell. In algorithm, MHC receptors are composed of a part of self-file that is recognized as itself and those shall distinguish self-file from the changed file. As a result of applying this algorithm to the changed self-files, we prove the efficacy of detection of the self-files changed by computer virus and hacking.

  • After kidney transplantation, immunosuppressive medication is essential to enhance the quality of life and survival of the transplanted patient. To promote the medication adherence, subjects are required to have converged attitude with open mind. Medication adherence will depend on the attitude of the psychosocial characteristics and treatment guidelines. The purpose of this study was to identify the specific types and characteristics of medication adherence in the view of kidney transplanted patients. Q-methodology, a technique for extracting subjective opinions, was used. Forty participants completed the Q-sort activity, rating each statement relative to the others. The collected data were analyzed by QUANL PC program. Four types of medication adherence of kidney transplanted patients were identified: 'positive lifestyle management type', 'vigilant appearance management type', 'somber oblivion type', 'vigilant family support type'. Through the identification of attitudes to medication adherence, repeated and individualized medication adherence program will help to prevent graft rejection.

  • To verify the association between GSTM1/GSTT1 gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to autoimmune diseases in Asian population. 18 published reports cited in EMBASE, Google, KISS, MEDLINE and PubMed up to December 2015 were collected for a meta-analysis. The GSTM1/GSTT1 polymorphism for null and present type were analysed separately. The significant association was found between the GST polymorphism and autoimmune diseases in an overall population (GSTM1, OR=1.334, 95% CI=1.137-1.567, p=0.000; GSTT1, OR=1.212, 95% CI=1.012-1.452, p=0.037). Asian population showed the significant association of GSTM1 in the autoimmune diseases, especially vitiligo and atopic dermatitis but non-significant association of GSTT1 in RA and SLE. The GSTM1 null and the GSTT1 present type showed the association with autoimmune diseases in Asian population. The null type frequency of the combination of GSTM1-GSTT1 polymorphism in autoimmune diseases in Asian population was higher than that of the control group. This result indicated that null type of GSTM1-GSTT1 combination can be a risk factor of autoimmune diseases in Asian population.

  • The pancreatic endocrine cells of the cat-shark, S. torazame, were studied using immunohistochemical method. Five kinds of endocrine cells (glucagon-, somatostatin-, insulin-, 5-HT-and BPP-immunoreactive cells) identified in this study. The chracteristic findings of the distributions of five immunoreactive cells were as follows. Glucagon-immunoreactive cells were detected as clustering group in the epithelia of the interlobular duct and singly the pancreatic acini, respectively. Insulin -immunoreactive cells were moderately observed in the epithelia of the interlobular duct or in the periphery of the islet. Somatostatin-immunoreactive cells were distributed in single or mass groups in the epithelia of the interlobular duct and the exocrine gland of the pancreas. A very few 5-HTimmunoreactive cells were seen in the periphery of the islet and the acini of the pancreas-BPP-immunoreactive cell was singly located in the periphery of the pancreatic islet, but GAS/CCK-and Chromogranin-immunoreactive cells were not found in this study.

  • According as many people use a computer newly, damage of computer virus and hacking is rapidly increasing by the crucial users A computer virus is one of program in computer and has abilities of self reproduction ad destruction like a virus of biology. And hacking is to rob a person's data in a intruded computer and to delete data in a person s computer from the outside. To block hacking that is intrusion of a person s computer and the computer virus that destroys data, a study for intrusion-detection of system and virus detection using a biological immune system is in progress. In this paper, we make a model of positive selection and negative selection of self-recognition process that is ability of T-cytotoxic cell that plays an important part in biological immune system. So we embody a self-nonself distinction algorithm in computer, which is an important part when we detect an infected data by computer virus and a modified data by intrusion from the outside. The composed self-recognition process distinguishes self-file from the changed files. To prove the efficacy of self-recognition algorithm, we use simulation by a cell change and a string change of self file.
