통신망의 발전과 컴퓨터를 통한 멀티미디어 처리 기술의 발달로 인해 사용자들은 보다 나은 서비스를 원하게 되었다. 이로 인해 컴퓨터 통신망에서 다양한 분산 멀티미디어 응용을 실현하기 위한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있으며, 그 대표적인 응용으로 화상회의가 있다. 그러나 멀티미디어 데이터를 다루는 응용들은 몇 가지 어려운 문제가 있으며 그 중의 하나가 멀티미디어 데이터의 동기화(synchronization) 문제이다. 멀티미디어 동기화의 관련된 기존의 연구들은 특정 조건하에서는 잘 수행되지만 다른 환경에서는 한계를 나타내는 문제점을 보이고 있다. 본 논문에서는 응용의 동기화 요구사항과 사용자의 인지적 특성에 의해 유연한 동기화 서비스를 제공하는 새로운 동기화 기법을 제안한다. 본 기법은 유동적인 망환경의 변화에 적응적이고 시계속도 차이가 있는 시스템 환경에서도 영향을 받지 않는 동기화방식이다.

인터넷 회의 시스템은 의사결정과 커뮤니케이션을 포함하는 모든 회의 활동을 지원하기 위해 하드웨어, 소프트웨어, 그리고 절차들을 포함하는 통합정보시스템이다. 인터넷망의 속도 증가와 아울러 음성 및 화상 처리 기술의 발전으로 인터넷 회의 시스템은 비약적으로 발전하여 왔다. 본 연구에서는 가상 회의 시스템 구축에 필요되는 요건과 발전 현황에 대해 살펴보고 앞으로 해결해야할 기술적 문제에 대해 검토한다.

Recently, explosive popularity of multimedia information has triggered the need for retrieving multimedia contents efficiently from the database including audio, video and images. In this paper, we propose an XML-based retrieval scheme and a data model that complement the weak aspects of annotation and conent based retrieval methods. The Property and hierarchy structure of image and video data are represented and manipulated based on the Multimedia Description Schema (MDS) that conforms to the MPEG-7 standard. For audio contents, pitch contours extracted from their acoustic features are converted into UDR string. Especially, to improve the retrieval performance, user's access pattern and frequency are utilized in the construction of an index. We have implemented a prototype system and evaluated its performance through various experiments.

Recently, as the development and use of distributed multimedia services are growing explosively in every aspects of our lives, administrators of multimedia services are very concerned with providing users with reliable and efficient services. However, the management of distributed multimedia services is a very complex and troublesome work such that a flexible but powerful management system is necessary. This paper proposes a management system for managing CORBA-based distributed multimedia services. We have developed an architecture for the management system and defined a set of management services needed to monitor and control distributed multimedia services. The architecture consists of several objects, which perform configuration management, fault management, security management and event management. A generic distributed multimedia service (DMS) MIB has been defined for the management of various multimedia services and applications. In addition, as a proof of concept, we have developed a Web-based management system for a CORBA-based distributed multimedia system called MAESTRO. The prototype management system uses OrbixWeb to interface with the management server which is implemented as a set of CORBA objects. Though our management system has been developed for distributed multimedia services, it can easily manage other CORBA-based services and applications.

For the multimedia conference in various networks, international standard works make progress with H and T series. T.120 series are recommended for multipoint data conference in various networks, but its demerit is not supported with video and audio capabilities. H.32X series are recommended for videoconference in various networks. To solve these problems, the combination of H.32X and T.120 are used. But many difficulties exist for consistent control. To solve these problems, T.130, T.131 and T.132 standardizations are made progress, and these are analyzed and implemented over LAN(Local Area Network). Our system introduced in this paper is currently operated on LAN, but can be operated with mixed networks with addition of underlying network dependent protocols.

인터넷과 컴퓨터 하드웨어 및 통신망의 발달로 멀티미디어 분야는 고도 정보 사회의 핵심적인 영역으로 부상되고 있으며, 멀티미디어 데이터에 대한 사용자의 요구도 날로 증가하고 있다. 문서, 녹취록, 테이프 형태로 관리되는 멀티미디어 데이터의 경우는 파일의 속성(attribute)에 대한 검색만이 아니라 내용(content)에 대한 검색이 필요하고, 따라서 순차검색 위주인 기존방법은 데이터의 활용 측면에서 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 자료 중 음성 데이터를 저장 관리하는 방안으로 음성 데이터를 화면으로 도시하고 음성의 시작점과 끝점구간을 키로 하여 자동으로 데이터베이스에 삽입한 후 여기에 주석을 입력하는 음성기반 회의록 시스템(Audio Minute System)을 구현하고 그에 따른 기대효과를 제시한다.
