Maxillary canine impaction is an anomaly often encountered in children. Although it has been reported that the incidence of palatally impacted canines is higher than that of labially impacted ones, it has been found that labial impaction of canines is more common than palatal impaction in Asian populations. In the cases presented here, maxillary canines were guided normally after rapid palatal expansion, followed by modification of root angulation of neighboring lateral incisors in 8-10-year-old children who had maxillary canines suspected of labial impaction. Consequently, the method of modifying the root angulation of the maxillary lateral incisor, combined with rapid palatal expansion, is effective in preventing impaction of an ectopically erupting maxillary canine without resorting to surgical methods.

In the primary dentitions, the majority of dental injuries involve the anterior teeth, especially the maxillary primary central incisors. When injuries affecting primary and permanent teeth are compared, it appears that trauma to the primary dentition is usually confined to the supporting structures, i.e. luxation and exarticulation, while the largest proportion of injuries affecting the permanent dentition is represented by crown fractures. But, cases reporting trauma affecting primary molars are unusual in the literature and several reports describe fractures of posterior teeth. The main goal of this report is to describe the repositioning treatment using removable appliances to an uncommon case of lingual displacement of primary molar that happened to a 4 year 5 month-old female child.

In the normal growth and development of the mandible, the molar tooth buds distal to the first permanent molar have a mesial inclination. This inclination is usually self-correcting, but, unfortunately, this self-correction does not always occur. The first case is about, 14-year-old female patient with familial history of lower second molar impaction. Her lower second molars were both impacted, and she was treated with sectional wires and open-coil springs. The second case, 14-year-old male, we treated his impacted #47 with Halterman appliance. The third case, 11-year-old male, his both mandibular second molars were impacted during full-fixed orthodontic treatment. They were treated with brass wire, sectional wire and open-coil spring.

Supernumerary tooth describes an excess of tooth number, which are found in primary dentition with 0.3-0.8%, permanent dentition with 1.0-3.5% prevalence. Their frequency is about 2:1 (male vs female) and 9:1 (maxilla vs mandible). However, occurrence is very rare in the incisor region of the mandible. We need a early diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan because of possibility of diastema, eruption failure, displacement, rotation of the associated permanent teeth, root resorption, dentigerous cyst with presence of the supernumerary teeth. This is a case report about two impacted supernumerary teeth found in madibular anterior region of 6 years old girl. One was extracted and another was retained because of fusion with permanent central incisor on the labial surface.

Myofibroma is a rare spindle cell neoplasm that consists of myofibroblsasts. Although it was originally described as a multicentric tumor process affecting infants and young children, it is now recognized that most cases of the tumor are soliatary and that it can occur at any age. This case is a myofibroma involving the right mandibular body in a 9-year-old boy. Radiographic examination revealed a relatively well-demarcated radiolucent lesion surrounding the impacted right mandibular canine and first premolar crown. The histologic sections composed of interlacing bundles of spindle cells with tapered or blunt-ended nuclei admixed with a foci of hemangiopericytoma-like appearance. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated a positive reaction to vimentin and smooth muscle actin, but they are negative for desmin and S-100. The presence of well circumscribed radiolucent solid lesion in children as observed in this case, differential diagnosis of myofibroma must be included. In this case, there was no recurrence 6 months after enucleation and eruption guide of the impacted tooth is ongoing now.

Ectopic eruption means the eruption of the tooth in an abnormal position due to multiple factors, which found most frequently in maxillary fist permanent molars, mandibular lateral incisors and maxillary permanent canines. Ectopic eruption of the maxillary first permanent molar occurs when the molar erupts with a more mesial angulation than normal, and locks itself in an atypical resorption on the distobuccal root of the second primary molar. The maxillary first permanent molar plays important roles for mastication and occlusion, so ectopically erupted maxillary first permanent molars should be relocated into proper position. Treatment options are separation by insertion of the brass wire or elastic rings, preparation of distal aspect of the maxillary second primary molar, using fixed or removable appliance with finger spring, and placement of space maintainer or space regainer after extraction of the maxillary second primary molar. We report three cases treated of ectopically erupted maxillary first permanent molar by re-setting of stainless steel crowns, placement of brass wire and using active plate. We could find out distal movement of maxillary first permanent molars into proper position and normal occlusion.

During tooth formation, tooth development can be affected by physical action or metabolic changes around dental follicle. Especially trauma to primary dentition is the most representative physical factor that can cause development disorders of succedaneous tooth. Enamel hypoplasia and crown discoloration of succedaneous tooth are common complications of trauma. And impaction, ectopic eruption, arrest of root formation and root dilaceration of succedaneous tooth are rare. In this case, a 6-year and 5-month-old female patient visited for dental evaluation after trauma. She was diagnosed with alveolar bone fracture near upper front teeth, extrusion of the upper right and left primary central incisors, intrusion of the upper right primary lateral incisor, and palatal luxation of the upper left primary lateral incisor. Upper right and left primary central incisors with severe mobility were extracted, with gingival suture on the day of the visit. During 24 months check up, root dilacerations were found near the cemento enamel junction in the upper lateral incisors and arrests of root formation were found on the coronal 1/3 of the root in the upper central incisors. Although alveolar bone fracture is rare type of trauma in children, a thorough examination of alveolar bone is essential for prognosis and following treatment in patients with trauma.

The pH of beverages is known to be low and have, therefore, been implicated in the increasing incidence of erosion. Erosion is believed to be the predominant cause of teeth wear in children and young adults, although there will always be a contribution from attrition and abrasion. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of yogurt on the progression of erosive demineralization in human enamel using demineralization model in vitro. In 4 yogurts, available on the market, pH, buffering capacity and the concentrations of calcium, phosphate and fluoride were determined. The buffering effect was determined by titration with NaOH. 50 milliliters of each drink was then titrated with 1M sodium hydroxide, added in 0.5 milliliters increments, until the pH reached about 7. Human deciduous enamel(n=40) samples were divided into four groups and exposed to 80ml of the yogurt for 30,60, 90 and 120min. Enamel surface microhardness(VHN) was examined before and after each exposure. 1. The average PH of fermented milk was 3.77 and this pH value was acidic enough to cause tooth erosion. 2. All of the fermented milks were found to be erosive(p<0.05) 3. The teeth exposed to the fermented milk all showed erosion like lesions and microhardness measurements showed that enamel surface hardness decreased proportionately with increased time of immersion in all tooth specimen groups. 4. After immersion for 30 and 60 minutes, reduction rate of microhardness values was not significantly different between the groups(p>0.05). However, after 90 and 120 minutes, reduction rate of each group was significantly different(p<0.05).

Marsupialization and decompression constitute a well-established procedure for treating cavitary bone lesions of the jaw. The technique can be a primary treatment option, especially for pediatric patients with large cysts or lesions involving vital anatomical structures, such as a developing tooth germ. In this procedure, a decompression stent, such as a customized acrylic obturator or space-maintaining appliance, silicone tube, or nasal cannula, is inserted to maintain the patency of the cyst. However, this may cause clinical problems, such as irritation or trauma to the adjacent tissues, as well as discomfort to the patient, or failure of the stent due to cyst shrinkage. It can also be a reason for patient noncompliance. In the cases described here, a minimally invasive marsupialization technique using a metal tube made from a 16-gauge needle was used for odontogenic cysts in pediatric patients associated with unerupted teeth. Through this method, the lesions were removed, with patient cooperation, and the cyst-associated teeth erupted spontaneously.
