Modification of Bearing Capacity Formula Considering Seam Tensile Strength of Geotextile in Soft Ground (연약지반에 포설된 Geotextile 봉합인장강도를 고려한 지지력 수정방정식)

  • With the increasing use of geotextile mats in dredging and reclaiming work and coastal construction, the assessment of bearing capacity in soft ground has become an important evaluation index for negligent accidents. The review of the allowable bearing capacity of soft ground consisting of inhomogeneous layers by laying geotextile mats and sand mat layers for soft ground improvement is generally compared with the equation of Meyerhof (1974) and Yamanouchi (1985). Mayerhof formula results in economic loss due to underestimation of bearing capacity, and Yamanouchi (1985) formula does not take into account negligent accidents for punching shear failure, so rather high bearing capacity is evaluated. It is considered that economic feasibility and stability will be ensured by proposing a modified formula to calculate the appropriate bearing capacity by applying the seam tensile strength of the geotextile mat to the design standard of soft ground improvement.

Design of a 28GHz 8-Directional Switched Beamforming Antenna System Utilizing Butler Matrix (버틀러 매트릭스 기반 28GHz 8-방향 스위칭 빔포밍 안테나 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, an 8-direction switched beamforming antenna system at 28GHz frequency band is described for 5th generation wireless communication. This system is composed of an $8{\times}8$ Butler matrix and an 8-element patch array antenna. The antenna system switches beams in 8-direction in the wide range of ${\pm}40^{\circ}$. The antenna spacing is $0.65{\lambda}$ to achieve ${\pm}40^{\circ}$ steering range. Designed results show that the 8-direction beams are placed at ${\pm}6^{\circ}$, ${\pm}17^{\circ}$, ${\pm}28^{\circ}$, ${\pm}40^{\circ}$ offset from the center. Parasitic radiation effect from the large dimension Butler matrix need to be suppressed by employing a stripline structure.

  • Sea dyke construction is simply defined as a cutting procedure of sea water flow. Sea dyke construction is more difficult than in-land construction because it is placed on deep seabed and exposed sea wave attack. Especially, the final closure of sea dyke is most dangerous due to the fast velocity of tidal flow. The final closure is consisted with vast rubble and heavy stone gabion, therefore the discharge velocity at land side of final close section is irregularly and sometime occur the fast discharge velocity. In this paper, the seepage model test performed to evaluate seepage behavior of final closure and continuous sea dyke section such as discharge velocity, hydraulic gradient, and phreatic line with installation of bottom protection filter mat. Based on the seepage model test results, the maximum discharge velocity of final closure section is 1.7m/sec and the discharge velocity is decreased maximum 23.7% with installation of bottom protection filter mat.

  • In this paper, a switched beamforming antenna system at 28 GHz frequency band is described for $5^{th}$ generation wireless communication. The butler matrix is used as a beamforming system and it produces linear spaced phase difference at four output ports. Array antenna is designed that can be steered in desired 4 different directions 28 GHz frequency band. Operation of designed butler matrix that composed of couplers and feedline is explained. The antenna system is designed in RO3003 substrate that has a height of 5 mil and dielectric constant of 3. The size of butler matrix is $20.3{\times}13.0mm^2$ and size of array antenna is $21.2{\times}19.9mm^2$. This system can be steered from $-34^{\circ}$ to $33^{\circ}$ and minimum sidelobe level is 12.9 dB.

  • In recent, the studies on the systems have been progressing that count the number of people passing through passageway or count people who exist in specific space. The existing people counting systems count the number of people using ultrared sensors, ultrasonic sensors or camera sensors, which can be installed only on pillar or around wall. Though ultrared sensors and ultrasonic sensors is low cost, they are inadequate to detect incoming/outgoing when several pedestrians pass through passageway concurrently. In this paper, we designed a sensor mat using piezoelectric sensors to complement the above-mentioned disadvantage. Also, we implemented the system that detects direction of progress and counts the number of people. The sensor mat detects direction of progress using pressure given on sensors and timing information and counts the number of people when pedestrians pass through on a sensor mat.

  • Gentamicin sulfate (GS)-loaded poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV) devices were prepared for controlled-release of antibiotics. In this study, the effects of thickness, hydroxyvalerate (HV) content, initial drug-loading ratio, and additive content on the release profile have been investigated. The morphology of devices was examined with scanning electron microscope (SEM) before and after in vitro release; their highly porous surface and cross-sectional were observed. It could be suggested that device would be affected by the packing of the HV and additive content, which would depend on their structure. A high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to detect and quantify the release of GS from the device. The drug release from all the devices showed biphasic release patterns, and some matrices released the incorporated antibiotic throughout 30 days with a near zero-order release rate. The release patterns were shown to be changed by altering the thickness, copolymer ratio, and additive content.

Structural Analysis of Microphase-separated Aggregates of Polyester/Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane Nanocomposite by Laser Light Scattering (레이저 광산란법에 의한 폴리에스터/실세스키옥세인 나노복합재료 응집체의 구조분석)

  • In order to understand the structure of the existing aggregate in the nanocomposite, which has been prepared with polyester and trisilanolisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(TBPOSS), laser light scattering(LLS) and SEM-EDS were applied to its 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol solution and original sample, respectively. Although aggregate particles appeared as spherical shape of the average diameter of 120 nm in SEM image, they were not microgels but almost linear copolymer chains ($M_w=2.3{\times}10^6\;g/mol$) alternating 320 molecules of TBPOSS with polyester subchains. It has been microphase-separated from the matrix polyester due to the difference of chemical composition. As the matrix, polyester chain of $M_w=4.0{\times}10^4\;g/mol$ had averagely 2.5 molecules of TBPOSS per chain. It is also found that about 93% of total TBPOSS molecules existed in matrix phase and the residual 7% in spherically aggregated phase.

  • Web applications have different structural characteristics from conventional applications with the structural language or object-oriented language or 4GL. A web application typically consists of server-side script elements which run on web sewers, client-side script elements which run on the client web-browser, HTML elements that contains context. Therefore web applications developer concurrently uses 3 or more development language. Cyclomatic Complexity for Web Application(CCWA) metrics reflected composite complexity of each element. In this paper, we applied cyclomatic complexity for web application metrics with Complexity level indicator to web application. We applied it to 10 web applications that were developed in practical business. High complexity web applications classify into four type(MENU, FORM, CTRL, GEN). This paper has contributed to practical use of engineering approach for web application.

  • Recently, the participation, opening and joint ownership of the users are important issue. The users want professional and accurate information from web. But users often suffer from retrieving accurate information. Even though the users find information they want, it is not guaranteed that the information is reliable since there are too much information placed on the web. Thus, we propose the novel rank metric to promote reliability and efficiency in information retrieval. In order to verify our approach, we implement a web site based on the proposed rank metric for nonofficial medical science information. The proposed rank metric based on user's level. This is to give score of text through differential rate depending on the user's level. The proposed rank metric enhances the reliability of text which is reflecting the user's mental factor. Thus, this method can be used for enhancing the reliability of text.

Effect of Water Soluble and Slow Release Fertilizers on the Growth of Pot Carnation in C-channel Mat Irrigation System (C-형강 매트재배 시 수용성비료와 완효성 비료가 분화 카네이션의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of water soluble fertilizer(WSF) and slow release fertilizer(SRF) on the growth of carnation(Dianthus caryophyllus 'Invitation') cultured in C-channel mat irrigation system. Plants grown in $0.8{\~}1.0\;g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of WSF showed the highest quality, especially on fresh and dry weight of aerial part, leaf number, total leaf area, plant height, and branch number. All plants showed increase of growth rate around 60 days after treatment, although there was a different increase rate. Total leaf area decreased its increase rate after 90 days after treatment. Carnations supplied by WSF showed better growth and quality than SRF, and the optimum concentration range of WSF for pot-carnation was $0.8{\~}1.0\;g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in C-channel mat irrigation system.
