Parasitism Rate of Egg Parasitoid Anastatus orientalis (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) on Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) in China (중국에서 알기생봉 Anastatus orientalis (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae)의 꽃매미 Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) 알에 대한 기생율)

  • Anastatus orientalis Yang et Gibson(Hymenoptera : Eupelmidae) is the egg parasitoid of lantern-fly Lycorma delicatula. The natural parasitism showed that: (1)the highest parasitism rate of egg masses was 68.96% in Yantai Shandong; (2)the highest parasitism rate of eggs was 32.98% in Haidian Beijing; (3)the eggs of parasitoids hatched and emerged earliest in Yangling Shaanxi; emergence time of different populations in Yantai, Guangang Tianjin, Qinhuangdao Hebei and Haidian was similar; (4) the sex ratios were various among the populations ranging from 1.92 to 1.94; (5) parasitism rates of egg masses on Populus sp., Salix sp. and Toona sinensis were not significantly different, the highest parasitism rate of egg masses was 64.3% on T. sinensis, and the lowest rate was 27.4% on Ailanthus altissima; (6)parasitism rates of eggs on Populus sp., Salix sp., T. sinensis and A. altissima were not significantly different, about 30% averagely.

Comparison of Cuticular Hydrocarbons of Different Developmental Stages of the Spot Clothing Wax Cicada, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) (꽃매미(Lycorma delicatula)의 발육단계별 표피탄화수소 비교)

  • Aliphatic cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) of different developmental stages of the spot clothing wax cicada, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) were analyzed using GC and GC-MS. The numbers of carbons in the major CHCs of each developmental stage 32, 33, 28, 38, 37 in the egg, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th instar nymphal stages, and adults, respectively. The cuticle of Lycorma delicatula contains mainly methyl-branched 9-methylheptacosane (15.11%) in the egg stage, and a high proportion of n-heptacosane in nymphal stages (15.75, 22.42, 25.04, and 23.11 % in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th instars, respectively). In contrast, male and female adults had high proportions of n-nonacosane (13.42 and 16.55%). The chemical constituents of CHCs were classified into five groups (n-alkanes, monomethylalkanes, dimethylalkanes, trimethylalkanes, olefins) and group profiles of each developmental stage were compared. Egg surface was composed mainly monomethylalkanes (45.39%), a saturated hydrocarbon. Nymph CHCs consisted primarily of n-alkanes (37.63 to 46.12%). There was a difference between adult male and female CHCs. However, both contained n-alkanes and monomethylalkanes. CHCs with trimethyl or double bonded structure were rare in all stages.

Environmentally-friendly Control Methods and Forecasting the Hatching Time Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) in Jeonnam Province (전남지역에서 꽃매미 부화시기 예측과 친환경 방제방법)

  • This study was conducted to predict the hatching time of eggs of Lycorma delicatula, to select an effective environmentally-friendly agriculture material (EFAM) and to evaluate the attraction effect of brown sticky traps for controling of Lycorma delicatula nymph and adults. Eggs hatched 55.9, 26.8, 21.6 days after incubation at 15, 20, $25^{\circ}C$ with 14L:10D condition and the hatching rates of egg were 61.9, 57.8, 30.4%, respectively. At high temperature conditions, egg development periods were shorter and the hatching rate was lower. The relationship between temperature and developmental rate was expressed by the linear equation Y=0.0028X-0.0228, $R^2$=0.9561. The low temperature threshold of eggs was $8.14^{\circ}C$ and the thermal constant required to reach larva was 355.4 DD. According to this relationship, the mean estimated hatching date was $22^{nd}$ May. The effective EFAM was natural plant extract, sophora extract, derris extract to nymph and natural plant extract, pyrethrum extract, sophora extract to adult. Among three colors of sticky trap : brown, blue and yellow, the brown sticky trap was the most attractive to nymphs and adults of L. delicatula over a 2 weeks trial period. It suggested that the brown sticky trap could be a very useful and environment-friendly control method for nymphs and adults of L. delicatula.

Occurrence status of three major insect pests in orchards in Chungbuk province from 2021 to 2022 (2021~2022년 충북지역 과수원의 주요 해충 3종 발생 현황)

  • The occurrence of eggs and adults of Pochazia shantungensis, Lycorma delicatula, and Lymantria dispar was investigated in 11 cities in the Chungcheongbukdo region. The results showed that the overwintering eggs of P. shantungensis occurred in 24.2% of the region in 2021 and 22.1% in 2022, while adults occurred in 25.2% in 2021 and 24.3% in 2022, indicating the highest occurrence among the pests studied. The occurrence of overwintering eggs of L. delicatula was relatively low, with 2.6% of the region affected in 2021 and 1.9% in 2022. Adult L. delicatula occurred in 3.2% of the region in 2021 and 3.6% in 2022. Overwintering eggs of L. dispar occurred in 4.1% of the area in 2021 and 1.7% in 2022, showing a decreasing tendency compared to the previous year, and their occurrence was only low to middle in terms of the degree of occurrence. Adult L. dispar occurred in 4.6% of the region in 2021 and 2.7% in 2022, showing occurrences that were insignificant compared to L. delicatula. According to a survey of host preferences, both the wintering eggs and adults of P. shantungensis were found in apples and peaches between 2021 and 2022. In both 2021-2022, adult L. delicatula had a high incidence in peaches, apples, and grapes, and winter eggs were the highest in grapes. However, the incidence in apples and peaches was low. A high incidence density of L. dispar moth adults and overwintering eggs was found in apples in both 2021 and 2022.

Resource Plants of Mt. Midong in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea (충청복도 미동산의 자원식물상)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the resource plants of Mt. Midong. The resource plant of Mt. Midong was surveyed from March, 2002 to October, 2003. In the result of survey, the vascular plant species in Mt. Midong were summarized as 400 taxa; 85 families, 266 genera, 349 species, 48 varieties and 3 forms. And in the results of survey on resource plants among 400 taxa, we confirmed 162 taxa of ornamental plants(40.5%), 250 taxa of edible plants(62.5 %), 257 taxa of medicinal plants(64.3%) and 167 taxa of the others(41.8 %). The six taxa were recorded in the surveyed sites as the Korean endemic plants; Hytomecon hylomeconoides, Filipendula palmata var. glabra, Ajuga spectabilis, Weigela subsessilis, Cirsium setidens and Saussurea seoulensis. The rare and endangered plants designated by Korea Forestry Service were two taxa; Hylomecon hylomeconoides and Polygonatum stenophyllum.

Vascular Plants of Mt. Midong in Chungcheongbuk-do (충청북도 미동산의 관속식물상)

  • This study was carried out to offer the raw data for the conservation of plant ecosystem in Chungcheongbuk-do with systematic grasping the vascular plant in Mt. Midong and to establish the accurate countermeasure of conservation on the rare species as well as to restore their habitats. The vascular plant species in Mt. Midong were summarized as 303 taxa; 81 families, 215 genus, 262 species, 38 varieties and 3 forms. The rare plants designated by Korea Forestry Service were two taxa; Polygonatum stenophyllum, Hylomecon hylomeconoides. The nine taxa were recorded in the surveyed sites as the endemic plants; Melandryum seoulense, Hylomecon hylomeconoides, Spiraea prunifolia for. simpliciflora, Filipendula palmata var. glabra, Ajuga spectabilis, Weigela subsessilis, Lonicera coreana, Cirsium setidens and Saussurea seoulensis. And the naturalized plants were twelve taxa; Rumex crispus, Lepidium apetalum, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Tyifolium pratense, Trifolium repens, Hibiscus trionum, Oenothera odorata, Ambrosia artemisifolia var. elatior, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis, Taraxacum officinale and Sonchus oleraceus.
