Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess physical illnesses, psychological difficulties, and daily life function of victims' family members one year after the Sewol ferry disaster, in order to establish a basis of strategies to promote their mental health and resilience. Methods : We statistically analyzed self-reported data collected from a survey conducted between March 22 and 28, 2015 with 139 family members of victims. Results : All respondents complained about one or more psychological difficulties, and 95.4% of them had newly diagnosed or exacerbated physical illnesses. An increased number of psychological difficulties was associated with a greater tendency to present physical illnesses including chronic headache, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, obstetrico-gynecological, genitourinary, and cardiovascular disease. In addition, the majority of respondents reported a decrease in life functioning. Specifically, 71.9% reported interpersonal avoidance and 63.9% reported difficulty in returning to work. Conclusions : Not only psychological trauma but also physical illness and daily functioning should be evaluated in detail and actively addressed in the bereaved family members after a catastrophe.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effectiveness of self-management programs and the measurement used for elderly people with chronic illness living in the community. Databases used for study search were Google Scholar, RISS, and Dbpia. And research questions were selected based on the PICO framework. We searched the study published from January 2010 to September 2019 and selected the final six studies by applying inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. As a result, the selected study had qualitative level of Level 1-2. In general characteristics of the program, nurses conducted the most programs, and the program was operated for 50 elderly people or less. In addition, the program was conducted mainly in public health centers, senior centers. The subjects were the most studies for chronic patients with hypertension. The dependent variables of the program covered the cognitive domains in all the studies, and many of the studies measured the physical domains as the dependent variables. The results of this study provide the effectiveness of self-management intervention for the elderly with chronic diseases living in the community, and highlight the need for the development of programs for chronic diseases in the community. In addition, this study suggests measuring tools related to various cognitive, physical, mental, social and quality of life of the elderly, and suggests the necessity of multidisciplinary research.
Children constitute a large majority of patients with foreign bodies in the nose. Adults with foreign bodies in the nose are usually mentally disturbed, and may be the victims of penetrating injuries or of operation on the nose. Foreign bodies enter the nose through the anterior naris, posterior naris, penetrating wound, $.$$.$$.$$.$ etc. Authors experienced a case of the broken pencil, 3.5cm in length, which entered the nose through the cheek and stayed there for 4 days.
Central pontine myelinolysis(CPM) and Extrapontine myelinolysis(EPM) are uncommon neurologic disorders associated with osmotic inequality between the extracellular fluid compartment and intracellular fluid compartment in the brain. Myelinolysis can occur in hyponatremia and after rapid correction of hyponatremia. It may be caused by various metabolic disturbances such as chronic alcoholism, malnourishment, cancer, chronic renal failure and organ transplantation. The authors reported a 43-year-old male patient who have received a kidney transplantation because of chronic renal failure due to diabetic nephropathy. The patient manifested psychotic symptoms such as delusion, loosened association, hallucination, inappropriate affect and aggressiveness as a sequele of CPM and EPM. He also showed neurocognitive impairment such as disorientation, memory impairment, decresed intelligence and aphasia. These manifestations are rare in CPM and EPM. We discuss the clinical features, diagnosis, course and management of the patient which may be clinically significant in the neuropsychiatric aspect especially at the consultation-liaison field.
The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of young adults obesity, morbid obesity and severe obesity and to identify associated factors. Data for 50,095 participants aged 20-39 from Community Health Survey 2019. Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were used for the analysis. Prevalence for young adults obesity, morbid obesity and severe obesity were 23.60%, 5.86% and 1.31%. Aged of 20's, male, low income, low educational level and marital status were found to be associated with all stages of obesity. Current smoking, high risk drinking, physical activity, health promotion practices, subjective health, EQ-5D, stress, depressive symptoms and comorbidities increased the prevalence of obesity in young adults. Health check-up, subjective health, EQ-5D, stress, depressive symptoms and comorbidities increased the prevalence of severe obesity in young adults. Based on the results, it is necessary to develop and provide focused intervention consisting of characteristics of young adults and stages of obesity.

The purpose of this study in the case of stress recognition, the lower the age was, as they had a spouse, the higher they got educated, and the worse their subjective health state was, the higher the stress recognition appeared. this study selected 6,227 adults over the age of 19 from the 5th first-year data of Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHNES)conducted by KCDC(Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)in 2010. In the case of experience of depression symptoms, female subjects experienced more depression symptoms than male ones; study subjects aged between 19 and 54 years experienced more; the worse their subjective health state was, the more they experienced; and in the case of non-education about diabetics, those who did physical activity more than four days experienced more symptoms. In the case of suicide ideation, female subjects ideation suicide more than male ones; as they had no spouse, the lower they got educated, the worse their subjective health state was, and as they never did physical activity, they more experienced suicide ideation. Then, it is expected that the results of this study can contribute to chronic-disease patients'leading a much healthier life in the future.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by the core symptom of chronic widespread pain, along with fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and cognitive difficulties. The etiology of fibromyalgia involves a combination of biological factors, such as genetic vulnerability, alterations in pain processing and stress response system ; psychological factors, such as anxiety, depression, anger, and perceived stress ; environmental factors, such as infections, febrile diseases, and trauma. Central sensitization, which is amplified in the process of sensory stimulation, has been emphasized as a key etiological factor, as supported by enhanced wind-up, delayed aftersensation, decreased nociceptive flexion reflex threshold and functional imaging studies. Several guidelines recommend that a multimodal approach be used to treat fibromyalgia, including both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, tailored to each individual, and that clinicians should provide an intellectual framework through sufficient education and emphasis on the importance of self-management. The prevalence of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric problems is 7-9 times higher in patients with fibromyalgia than in the general population ; moreover, the association between fibromyalgia and certain psychopathologies or sleep problems has also been suggested. Since psychiatric problems, with shared vulnerabilities and risk factors, interact with fibromyalgia bidirectionally and also affect the disease course, an integrated management approach is needed to determine the risk of comorbidities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a self-management program for community dwelling patients with chronic mental illness so that they could improve their daily living skills and interpersonal relationships. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post test design was used. The participants with chronic mental illness were recruited from a community mental health center. Twenty-two participants were assigned to the intervention group and 19 to the control group. The self-management was provided by 8 trained nursing students, and consisted of 8 sessions including education and practice. Each session was composed of strategies to improve self-care of community dwelling patients with chronic mental illness. Baseline and post-intervention measurements were done using a daily living skill performance scale and interpersonal relationship instrument. Results: Scores for daily living skill performance were not statistically significant, but scores for interpersonal relationship were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the self-management program had a positive impact on patients with chronic mental disorders. Therefore, it is suggested that the program could be used as an effective nursing intervention for patients with chronic mental disorders being cared for in community mental health centers.
Brief hypnotherapy with daily self-hypnosis was used to a 20-year-old male patient who had severe warts on the fingers of both hands for 6 years. He had had several dermatological treatments, including attempts to remove the warts with topical chemotherapy, but the warts had always recurred. During the hypnotic session, it was suggested that the warts would begin to feel cool and disappear with imaginary laser. He responded well to ideosensory suggestions and was free of the warts within 5 sessions. Inquiry after 7 months revealed that no recurrence had taken place. Finally, it is stimulating to think that harmony between mind and body involving cell-mediated immunity can intervene in conditioning the course of the skin diseases.
