  • Recently, engineering problems such as long-term settlement, differential settlement, and the resultant structural damage, have been frequently reported at construction sites. Use of Sand Compaction Piles(SCP) and Granular Compaction Piles(GCP) are good at remedying existing problems, improving bearing capacity and promoting consolidation. However, such compaction piles have the potential for clogging, which would limit their usability. Investigations into the potential for clogging in SCP, GCP, and GCP mixed with sand has not been thoroughly conducted and is the objective of this current study. Large scale direct shear tests were performed on sections of SCP, GCP, and sand mixed GCP to evaluate bearing capacity. Discrete Element Method analyses were conducted with PFC3D and Finite Element Analyses were conducted with MIDAS GTS to propose an algorithm to help reduce clogging in the granular compaction piles. Results from the large scale direct shear test and multiple simulations suggest a 70% gravel and 30% sand mixing ratio to be optimal for bearing capacity and reducing clogging.

  • Effective interception area of street grate inlets was decreased by clogging with trash, debris, and sand. It also decreased the interception capability of grate inlets and increased the inundation area in street. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the clogging characteristics and interception capability change by clogging for appropriate design and management of grate inlets. Hydraulic experimental apparatus which can be changed the gutter transverse slopes, longitudinal slopes of street and clogging condition of grate inlet ($40{\times}50cm$) was installed for this study. 81 total experiments were conducted with 8 different clogging condition. The interception capacities of grate inlets clogged curb direction are smaller than those of clogged flow direction. As the longitudinal slopes of street increase, the interception capacity of grate inlet decreases due to splash-over phenomena. This is also observed at grate inlets which has no clogging condition. In general, 50% of clogging factor was selected in design of grate inlet in foreign country. The clogging factor for same clogging condition are suggested 0.25~0.65 in domestic urban area.

  • PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) 필름은 압전특성을 가지며 음파에너지를 발생시키는 유연성 고분자필름이다.

  • The raw water was fractionated into hydrophobic (HPO), transphilic (TPI), and hydrophilic portions (HPI) using XAD resins. The raw water DOC contains 39% of hydrophilics, 43% of hydrophobics, and 18% of transphilics. When fractionated NOM (natural organic matter) was passed through hydrophilic membrane with 100 kDa, hydrophobic portion (HPO) caused the most fouling and hydrophilic portion (HPI) caused the least fouling. This could be related to size and adsorption capability of organics. Small sized organics would pass through membrane pores, but large sized organics would be attracted to either membrane pores or surface, which led to the fouling. An effect of membrane pore size on membrane fouling is related to the availability of organics at membrane pores. As the pore size became larger, the more organics were transported into the membrane pore. Some organics caused pore blocking, and others caused pore adsorption, which resulted in membrane fouling. Membrane material is also important for membrane fouling. More fouling occurred at hydrophobic membrane than hydrophilic membrane regardless of its pore size. Hydrophobic interaction caused more fouling at hydrophobic membrane.

  • In the quality control of the aerosol skincare products containing powders, it is essential to guarantee that the contents in the bottle can be completely used without leakage or clogging of the nozzle. In this paper, the clogging caused by powder was investigated and the clogging can be effectively removed by emulsifying the contents containing powder with the LPG using a proper surfactant. And the spraying test shows that the contents in the bottle are completely propelled to outside by LPG when properly emulsified by POE(40) HCO.
