A Study on Weld Characteristics Analysis of Dissimilar Material (A105-A312) and Shape Friction Welding for Marine Plant Piping (해양 플랜트 배관용 이종 소재(A105-A312) 및 이종 형상 마찰용접의 용접 특성 분석에 대한 연구)

  • This paper studies the main parameters of tube-to-bar dissimilar material and shape friction welding for piping materials. The weldability of joint parts was investigated with respect to tensile tests, micro-Vickers hardness, the bond of area, and optical microstructure. The specimens are tested as-welded. Optimal welding conditions are n = 2000 rpm, HP = 50 MPa, UP = 100 MPa, HT = 5 sec, and UT = 10 sec when the metal loss (Mo) is 11 mm. Moreover, the same two materials for friction welding are strongly mixed with a well-combined structure of micro-particles without any molten material, particle growth, or defects. Therefore, the expected result of dissimilar material friction welding includes a reduction of cost and material in the welding process.

  • Plunger (piston rod) materials are used in high-pressure condition. So STD11 is the essential material to build this plunger. However, it costs more to make a plunger by using only STD11 than using the welding of STD11 to SCM440 and other dissimilar material. And it has been difficult to weld this sort of dissimilar materials. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional arc welding. And also they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. But, by the friction welding technique, it will be able to be made without such problems. And then, on account of such reasons, we need a new approach of study on real-time quality evaluation by acoustic emission (AE) techniques as well as a domestic development of the plunger by friction welding. So that, the purpose of this study for such developments is the development of a plunger by optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability. Then, this study aimed not only to develop the optimization of friction welding of dissimilar plunger steels of STD11 to SCM440, but also to develop the application technique of the acoustic emission to accomplish an in-process real-time quality evaluation during friction welding of the plunger materials by the AE technique.

  • The shock absorbers for marine vehicles are very important components to absorbing the shock resulting from driving. Depending on the kinds of vehicles, these essential components, piston and piston rod, must be made of S25C, S45C, and SCM440, must be precisely machined, and assembled by the bolts. Other materials used have been difficult to weld, and could be unstable in quality, by the conventional arc welding. Also, they have been associated with a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. However, using the friction welding technique, such problems will be avoided. These factors have necessitated the domestic development of the marine shock absorber using a friction welding, as well as stimulating a new approach to the study of real-time weld quality evaluation by AE techniques.

  • An opportunity to use the elevated temperature has been recently increasing in various elements of heat facilities or machines such as heat exchanger tubes, pressure vessels, engines of aircraft, boilers and turbines in power plants, and nuclear reactor components, etc. as machinery industry develops. Thus, the development of such elevated-temperature heat-resisting materials and the studies on their elevated-temperature materials friction welding, creep design and analysis have been considered as an important and needful fact. In this paper, friction welding optimization for 1Cr0.5Mo to STS304 and AE applications for the weld quality evaluation were investigated. The important results of this study are as follows : The techniques for dissimilar friction welding optimization of the elevated temperature materials 1Cr0.5Mo and STS304 and its real-time weld quality evaluation by AE were developed, considering on both strength and toughness. Quantitative relationship was identified among welding condition, weld quality and cumulative AE counts.

  • The hear transfer mechanism initiating the friction welding is examined and a transient three dimensional heat conduc-tion model for the welding of two dissimilar cylindrical metal bars is investigated. The cylindrical metal bars are made of materials made of A2024 and SM 45C. Numerical simulations of heat flow are performed using the finite volume method. Respectively. Commercial FLUENT code is used in the heat flow simulation and maximum temperature and distribution of temperature are calculated. Temperature of friction welded joining face is compared with the temperature distribution measured by experiment and numerical simulation. The maximum temperature of friction welded joining face is lower than melting point of A2024-T6 aluminum alloy using insert metal. The temperature distribution of friction welded join- ing face with insert metal is more uniform than that of without inset metal.

  • Dissimilar joining of aluminum 6061-T6 alloy to aluminum 5083-O alloy was performed using friction-stir welding technique. The mechanical properties, hardness, macro- and micro-structure on dissimilar friction-stir-weld aluminium alloy were investigated. Mechanical properties of the weld mainly depend on which Al alloy is placed at the retreating sides of the rotating tool respectively during dissimilar friction-stir weld because the microstructure of stir zone was mainly composed of welded Al alloys of the retreating side. Onion ring pattern was observed like lamella structure stacked by each Al alloy in turn. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone that traverse speed was changed to 124 mm/min under conditions of tool rotation speed like 1250 rpm with 5 mm of tool's prove diameter, 4.5 mm of prove length, 20 mm of shoulder diameter, and $2^{\circ}$ of tilting angle. The 231 MPa of ultimate stress and the 121 MPa of yield point are obtained about the friction-stir-welded Al 6061-T6(AS) to Al 5083-O(RS).

Comparative Study on the Fatigue Properties of FSW and MIG Joints of A16005 Sheets to Design Railway Vehicles (철도차량 설계를 위한 A16005 알루미늄 판재의 마찰교반용접(FSW)과 MIG 용접부의 피로 특성 비교 연구)

  • Friction stir welding results in low distortion and high joint strength compared with other welding procedures, and is able to join all aluminium alloys that are not considered as virtually weldable with classical liquid state techniques. The comparative study on high cycle fatigue properties between A16005-T6 friction stir welds and MIG weld joints have been performed and fracture mechanisms for the fatigue specimens were investigated. Although mechanical properties are lower than the corresponding base material, FSW joints of A16005-T6 become higher at tensile and fatigue strength in comparison with the traditional fusion weld(MIG). The fracture surfaces of FSW and MIG fatigue specimens cleary show different aspects of the fracture morphology. MIG weldments were characterized by voids and cleavage(brittle fracture) but FSW specimens showed the presence of ductile fracture surface.

  • 합금화용융아연도금강판(GA)은 가격이 저렴하고 내식성 및 용접성이 우수하여 최근 자동차용강판으로 그 사용량이 급격하게 증가하고 있으나 도금밀착성이 나쁘고 프레스성형이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 GA 도금층에 여러가지 유,무기계 윤활처리를 실시하여 이것이 마찰특성은 물론 용접성, 도장성 및 내식성에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 유기계 윤활피막은 가공성과 도금 밀착성에서 유리하나 용접성과 탈지성에서는 불리하였고, 무기계 윤활피막인 Prephosphate 및 금속윤활처리 강판은 가공성에서는 유기윤활피막 보다 약간 떨어지나 용접성과 탈지성에서는 우수한 결과를 나타냈다.
