  • Blends were prepared by mixing BR, SBR and NBR to CIIR, which is used for outsole, at various mixing ratio, and effect of the mixing ratio on abrasion resistance and coefficient of friction was analyzed. CIIR interferes the crystalline formation of BR in BR/CIIR blends and this could be one of the factors that rapidly decreases abrasion resistance of BR/CIIR blends. $Tan{\delta}$ peak area of CIIR/BR blends decreased as the amount of BR present in the blends increased, and similarly, the coefficient of friction tended to decrease. Stress relaxation rate and rebound resilience of CIIR/BR blends decreased with increasing BR content, and it was presumed that their rebound resilience was affected by stress relaxation rate.

  • According to the improvement of computer's performance, the development of Geographic Information System (GIS), and the activation of offering information, a distributed model for analyzing runoff has been studied a lot in recently years. The distribution model is a theoretical and physical model computing runoff as making target basin subdivided parted. In the distributed model developed by this study, the volume of runoff at the surface flow is calculated on the basis of the parameter determined by landcover data and a two-dimensional diffusion wave equation. Most of existing runoff models compute velocity and discharge of flow by applying Manning-Strickler's mean velocity equation and Manning's roughness coefficient. Manning's roughness coefficient is not matched with dimension and ambiguous at computation; Nevertheless, it is widely used in because of its convenience for use. In order to improve those problems, this study developed the runoff model by applying not only Manning-Strickler's equation but also Chezy's mean velocity equation. Furthermore, this study introduced a power law of exponential friction factor expressed by the function of roughness height. The distributed model developed in this study is applied to 6 events of fan-shape basin, oblong shape test basin and Anseongcheon basin as real field conditions. As a result the model is found to be excellent in comparison with the exiting runoff models using for practical engineering application.

  • Reconstruction analysis of traffic accident is done by analyzing diverse data such as the road, accident traces and damage on the automobile. Most data can be a variable in the process of analysis, and measurement error of the data occurs from the investigator, tool and the given environment. Therefore, accident analysis always has some risks of measurement uncertainty. This research quantify the uncertainty in traffic accident analysis by conducting repetitive measurement experiments for variables with high probability of uncertainly such as length (i.e. geometric structure of the road, tire marks) and coefficient of friction. This paper also suggests an analysis result for the uncertainly of photographic observation of automobile crush measurement. These statistical distributions can help determine appropriate ranges for the input data in order to estimate the accident reconstruction uncertainty.

  • The PSC bridges have recently been widely used in Korea. The PSC bridge is a structure whose performance is improved through the use of tendons and steel bars in deflection and cracking characteristics of the concrete. Therefore, measurement or estimation of the load acting on tendon is important in order to maintain the PSC bridges efficiently and safely. This paper deals with a numerical study on the deformation of a multi-tendon anchor head in order to verify the relationship between the load acting on tendon and the deformation of anchor head. All kinematics, material properties and contact nonlinearity are included for the precise analysis and numerical studies are performed by Abaqus. From the numerical results, it is verified that the hoop strain is most useful in the estimation of the load acting on tendon and strains are affected by various parameters such as friction coefficient, boundary conditions, and arrangement.

  • In this study, a new empirical equation for the transverse dispersion coefficient has been developed based on the theoretical background in river bends. The nonlinear least-square method was applied to determine regression coefficients of the equation. The estimated dispersion coefficients derived by the new equation were compared with observed transverse dispersion coefficients acquired from natural rivers and coefficients calculated by the other existing empirical equations. From a comparison of the existing transverse dispersion equations and the new proposed equation, it appears that the behavior of the existing formula in a relative sense is very much dependent on the friction factor and the river geometry. However, the new proposed equation does not vary widely according to variation of friction factor. Also, it was revealed that the equation proposed in this study becomes an asymptotic curve as the curvature effect increases.

  • Recently, wheel slip controllers with controlling the wheel slip directly has been studied using the brake-by-wire actuator. The wheel slip controller is able to control the braking force more accurately and can be adapted to various different vehicles more easily than the conventional ABS systems. The wheel slip controller requires the information about the tire braking force and road condition in order to achieve the control performance. In this paper, the tire braking forces are estimated considering the variation of the friction between brake pad and disk due to aging of the brake, moisture on the contact area or heating. In addition, the road friction coefficient is estimated without using tire models. The estimated performance of tire braking forces and the road friction coefficient is evaluated in simulations.

  • A discrete spectral model of wind waves for arbitrary depth and current is presented This model incorporates wave growth. decay by opposite int bottom friction and wave-current interaction. Depth dependent factor was also added to the fully developed spectrum in order to consider finite depth effects. The physical behavior for the effect of depth and bottom friction was analyzed for an artificially-imposed wind field.

  • Forecasting models for crosswalk pedestrian volume, which consider safety of crosswalks and good traffic operation accidents, have been established in order to reduce total number of crosswalk pedestrian accidents. However, the existing models did not include pedestrian volume which seemed to be very significant in the forecasting models because there were no pedestrian volume related data and no methods of estimating pedestrian volume. This paper presents estimating models for the total number of trips, which are produced in zone i and attracted to zone j, and a process of estimating pedestrian volume in the goal year. First of all, the estimating models included the characteristics of land-use around a signalized intersection and the crosswalk pedestrian volume as factors. Secondly, the estimated crosswalk pedestrian volume was distributed to the crosswalk pedestrian volume each path in the basic year by friction factors of Gravity Model, adjustment factors for area and ratio of pedestrian volume who moved diagonally at the crosswalk. Thirdly, the estimating models of crosswalk pedestrian volume in the goal year were presented by using the distributed crosswalk pedestrian volume.

  • The hydrodynamic model is used to analyse the sea surface elevations derived from the SEASAT altimetry over the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. Periods of significant atmospheric disturbances during the SEASAT mission are selected for this study. These includes periods of July 28-August 2 and August 18-21. Meteoroloeical forcing functions, which are needed for the sea model, are derived by a 2-dimensional grid that is governed by a set of theoretical and empirical meteorological relations over the study area. Ocean tides in this area are known to be significant and introduce a large spatial and time variability in the sea surface elevation. Consequently major tidal constituents of M$_2$, S$_2$, $K_1$ and $O_1$ are included in the computation. With some knowledge of other known sea surface phenomena e.g.(body tide, loading tide), the time-dependent sea surface variation is predicted to com-pare statistically with the satellite altimetric measurements and to achieve the objective of ocean bottom friction study. From a total of 10 SEAST orbit tracks, a friction coefficeint was found ranging from 0.0023 to 0.0027.

  • The VDC(Vehicle Dynamics Control) is a control system whose target is to improve vehicle stability under critical motion. The system has a good potential of becoming a standard active safety unit in passenger vehicles since it can be implemented on top of the ABS/TCS system with little extra cost. This, however, is possible only when the signals that the VDC system demands can be obtained with sufficient accuracy. In this research, estimators for the road friction coefficient and body sideslip angle have been designed. The two variables have great influence upon performance of the VDC system but not directly measurable. For the estimator design, the Newton method and the nonlinear observer theory have been exploited. The performance of the estimator have been verified via simulations on critical driving conditions.
