Effect of Various Interlayer Deposition on Room Temperature and High Temperature Properties of CrAlN Coatings (다양한 중간층 증착이 CrAlN 코팅의 상온 및 고온 특성에 미치는 효과에 관한 연구)

  • CrAlN 코팅은 높은 경도, 낮은 표면 조도 등의 상온에서의 우수한 기계적 특성 이외에 고온에서 안정한 합금상의 형성으로 인하여 우수한 내산화성 및 내열성을 보유하여 공구 코팅으로의 적용 가능성이 크다. 그러나 최근 공구사용 환경의 가혹화로 인하여 코팅의 내마모성 및 내열성 등의 물성 향상을 통한 공구의 수명 향상이 필요시 되고 있으며, 다양한 코팅 물질을 활용하여 다층 코팅을 합성함으로써 난삭재용 공구 코팅의 물성을 높이는 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 CrAlN 코팅과 WC-Co 6wt.% 모재 사이에 CrZrN, CrN, CrN/CrZrSiN 등의 중간층을 합성하여 CrAlN 코팅의 상온 및 고온 특성을 향상시키는 연구가 진행되었다. 합성된 코팅의 구조 및 물성을 분석하기 위해 field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), nano-indentation, atomic force microscopy(AFM) 및 ball-on-disk wear tester를 사용하였다. 코팅의 고온 특성을 확인하기 위해 코팅을 furnace에 넣어 공기중에서 30분 동안 annealing 한 후에 nano-indentation을 사용하여 경도를 측정하였고, $500^{\circ}C$ annealing 코팅의 표면 조도 분석 및 $500^{\circ}C$에서 마찰마모시험을 실시하였다. CrAlN 코팅의 상온 특성을 분석한 결과, 모든 코팅의 경도(35.5-36.2 GPa)와 탄성계수(424.3-429.2 GPa)는 중간층의 종류에 상관없이 비슷한 값을 보인 것으로 확인됐다. 그러나, CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅의 마찰계수는 0.33로 CrZrN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅의 마찰계수(0.41)에 비해 향상된 값 보였으며, 코팅의 마모율 및 마모폭도 비슷한 경향을 보인 것으로 보아 코팅의 내마모성이 향상된 것으로 판단된다. 이것은 중간층의 H/E ratio가 코팅의 내마모성에 미치는 영향에 의한 결과로 사료된다. H/E ratio는 파단시의 최대 탄성 변형율로써, 모재/중간층/코팅의 H/E ratio 구배에 따라 코팅 내의 응력의 완화 정도가 변하게 된다. WC 모재 (H/E=0.040)와 CrAlN 코팅(H/E=0.089) 사이에서 CrN, CrZrSiN 중간층의 H/E ratio는 각각 0.076, 0.083 으로 모재/중간층/코팅의 H/E ratio 구배가 점차 증가함을 확인 할 수 있었고, 일정 응력이 지속적으로 가해지면서 진행되는 마모시험중에 CrN과 CrZrSiN 중간층이 WC와 CrAlN 코팅 사이에서 코팅 내부의 응력구배를 완화시키는 역할을 함으로써 CrAlN 코팅의 내마모성이 향상된 것으로 판단된다. 내열성 시험 결과, CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 증착한 코팅은 $1,000^{\circ}C$까지 약 28GPa의 높은 경도를 유지한 것으로 확인 되었다. $500^{\circ}C$ annealing 후 진행된 표면 조도와 마모시험 결과, 모든 코팅의 조도 값 및 마찰계수는 상온 값에 비해 증가하였으며 CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅의 변화량이 가장 낮은 값을 보였다. 이는 CrZrSiN 중간층 내에 존재하는 $SiN_x$ 비정질상이 고온 annealing시에 산소 차폐막 역할을 하여, 코팅내의 잔류 산소에 의한 산화작용을 효과적으로 방지함으로써 코팅의 고온 특성이 향상된 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Wear Characteristics of R/S Passing through Curves (곡선부 주행 차량의 마모특성에 관한 연구)

  • For the wear characteristics assessment of Saemaul train passing through curves, an analysis model for multi-car system has been developed. By using this model and ADAMS/Rail, sensitivity analyses have been conducted for the wear characteristics by changing the related parameters. At low speed, the wear number and the sliding mean of right wheel showed higher than left wheel, while those of left wheel showed higher than right wheel at high speed. According to the decrease of curve radius, the wear number and the sliding mean were increased. When the length of transition curve was increased, the wear number and the sliding mean was increased. And according to increase of cant, the wear number and the sliding mean were increased.

  • We have studied on the frictional characteristics for mounting rubbers varieties structures on the automotive engine. This paper are using a test apparatus developed in the laboratory, friction and wear characteristics of various rubbers have been analyzed by experimental study. Frictional characteristics has been measured from the normal force and friction force under various operating conditions, such as, loads, speed and temperatures. Therefore, the rubbers are used in a several varieties structures as well as automotive, the relations between the various conditions and frictional characteristics have been investigated.

  • The wear of rubber track being in contact with the road surface is an important subject because it decreases the traction performance and the operating efficiency of tracked vehicle. For the above reasons, many attempts have been made to quantitatively calculate the rubber track. However, it depends on the experimental methods which are highly time- and cost-consuming. Therefore, the numerical simulation approach is highly desirable, but it needs to model the complex geometry and the material behavior in details as well as the interaction with the road surface. In this study, the rubber track and its material behavior are elaborately modeled since these factors are very important in the prediction of the wear rate of the rubber track. Accordingly to the studies on the rubber wear by previous investigations, it has been found that the wear is greatly influenced by the frictional energy. The frictional energy of rubber track is computed by utilizing the 3D finite element analysis of the rubber track, and the wear rate is evaluated making use of the frictional energy and a wear model.

Abrasive Wear of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites for High Wear Resistance (고 내마모성 혼합 금속복합재료의 연삭마모)

  • Aluminum based metal matrix composites(MMCs) are well known for their high specific strength, stiffness and hardness. They are gaining further importance because of their high wear resistance. In this study wear behavior of $Al/Al_2O_3/C$ hybrid MMCs fabricated by squeeze infiltration method was characterized by the abrasive wear test under various sliding speeds at room and high temperature. Wear resistance of MMCs was improved due to the presence of reinforcements at high sliding speed. Especially wear resistance of carbon hybrid MMCs was superior to other materials because of its solid lubrication of carbon. The friction coefficient of MMCs was not affected by the sliding speed.

A Wheel Wear Analysis of Railway Vehicle on a Curved Section (곡선 구간에서 철도 차량 휠의 마모 특성 해석)

  • The wheel wear of a railway vehicle is mainly generated when maneuvering on a curved track. The change in the wheel profile affects the dynamic stability of the vehicle. In this analysis, the wheel wear volume was calculated while changing the velocity and radius of the curve to analyze the wear characteristics of a wheel at a curved section. The wear index was calculated from a vehicle dynamic analysis based on a multibody dynamics analysis and wear volume from a wear model by British Rail Research. The wear volume at a radius of 300 m is dominant compared with other radii. The wear volume was calculated by assigning different coefficients of friction to the tread and flange of the wheel to investigate the effect of lubrication on the wear characteristics. The effect of the improvement by lubrication is calculated by varying the radius of the track, and is assessed on an actual urban railway section.

  • Carbon fiber polymeric composites have been widely used in bearing materials under high pressure without oil-lubrication due to their self-lubricating characteristics. However, the severe wear of carbon composite surface occurs due to the generation of wear debris when the pressure applied on the composite surface is higher than the critical value of composite surface. In this work, in order to remove wear debris continuously during sliding operation, composite specimens with many micro-grooves on their sliding surfaces were devised. To investigate the effect of wear debris on the tribological behavior of carbon/epoxy composites, dry sliding tests were performed with respect to applied pressure using the composite specimens with and without micro-grooves. From the measurement of friction coefficients and wear rates, a model for the effect of wear debris on the friction and wear of composites was proposed.

  • In these days, wear resistance is an essential condition because the relative movement between machine parts is being accelerated and those connected with the drive parts transmit power and force. Also wear resistance is closely related to reliability and life of products, therefore the study on friction and wear is very important in many fields. In this paper, wear test was conducted to know properties about friction and wear of manganese phosphate being used widely. Test type is 1 ball on disk and we compared manganese phosphate thin film with non-coated material. Through this study, we could know the effect of this surface treatment method, and then it is assumed that the reliability of parts will be secure.

  • The purpose of this study is to show the friction and wear characteristics on the vapor deposited coating layers on the SCM415 steel. In this research, frictional wear characteristic of coating materials such as TiAlN+WC/C Multilayer Coating was investigated under room temperature, normal air pressure and nothing lubricating condition. Therefore this study carried out research on the friction coefficient, micro hardness(Hv), roughness, EPMA on the vapor deposited coating layers on the SCM415 steel. As the wear experimental result, the coefficient of friction decreased according to experimental load increases.

  • Tribology라는 용어는 마찰, 마모, 윤활의 과학, 기술을 한마디로 나타내는 말이다. 우리들의 일상생홀, 산업활동, 특히 소성가공에서 Tribology의 역활의 중요성은 새삼 강조할 필요가 없다. 소성가공에서 가공방식, 공구, 소재, 온도, 속도에는 무수한 조합이 있고, 마찰-마모-윤활의 상효연관 또한 복잡하다. 역학, 열전달, 물리학, 화학적과정이 동시에 상호작용을 하면서 진행하는 이 시스템에서는 크게는 공작기계로부터 작게는 micron정도의 표면과 윤활막 뿐만 아니라, 경우에 따라서는 ${\AA}$ 정도의 정체불명체가 결정적인 역활을 한다. 본 고에서는 냉간압연, 단조, 인발등에 Tribology를 응용하는 입장에서 Tribology system의 일부를 공구와 재료의 윤활제를 개재한 micro 접촉상황을 중심으로 분류정리하고, 이것과 공업적 소성가공에서 공구 - 재료접촉면현상과 그 연계를 가능한 한 이해하기 쉽게 서술하였다. 이를 통하여 소성가공기술자 및 연구자가 소성가공의 목적을 달성하는 가운데, Tribology 적으로 양호한 결과를 경제적으로 얻고자하는 시행, 개발, 연구에 대해 도움이 되고자 한다.
