  • The study on Musa basjoo planting in traditional gardens in of folk villages and traditional temples was conducted to identify the phenomenon of Musa basjoo planting which frequently appears in paintings and literatures of the late Joseon dynasty and how the cultural custom is being handed down. The result of the study is as follows. As a result of studying state-designated folk villages 6 sites, the custom is being handed down in a few limited gardens including Asan Oeam Village and Seongju Hangae Village. In case of Oeam Village, there are three gardens where Musa basjoo was planted including Seolimbang, Vice Minister's Residence, and Geonjae House where Musa basjoo withered now. In case of Hangae Village, it was found in Bukbi House, Hahoe Residence and Gyoridaek Jinsa's Residence and most of them were planted in front of guesthouses and main building with the assemble-planting method. Musa basjoo planting was confirmed in 39 traditional temples and it was found that Yangsan Tongdosa Temple and attached hermitage Geukrakam are currently prevalent in Musa basjoo planting. Musa basjoo was planted on either side of the stairs of Buddhist sanctums for Buddha and Avalokitesvara Guan Yin of main temples and gwaneum temples with the assemble-planting method and it has a tendency of pair planting. Considering that Musa basjoo is a southern plant, most of Musa basjoo planting was distributed around Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do, which is closely related to the isotherm distribution of the Korean Peninsula. Especially, it was found that planting flora was centered on $12^{\circ}C$ of Warmth Index $100^{\circ}$ and annual average temperature.

  • It has recently become a major concern for us contemplating could regain the advantage with a 'village' concept of the traditional in a modern city. The village community recovery project which is one of the flagship projects of seoul is being actively conducted with the aim to form a network between residents and have even appeared positive results. Among the many efforts to recover community, spatial approach may be one solution. To secure a space for people to easily access, may bring about a small but significant effect. Community Space with high visual accessibility has a large effect as a space of communication and exchange of residents. Socio-economic efforts to restore the community has a limit. In some cases of poor village, Spatial relationship network was found to be a large influence on the formation of the socio-economic relations network. It is important to understand how people lived and formed a relationship within the space of traditional forms and space disappeared from rapid social change process. The community recovery efforts are needed through research and experiments for the residential network can reflect the spatial characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the village gut (shamanic ritual) Dangsanje and Nong-ak (agricultural musical ritual) in the Jeong-eup Province on the formation of the ideology of the Jeungsan (甑山), Kang Il-sun (姜一淳 1871~1909), a thinker from Jeong-eup. As a result, this article has reached the following conclusions: first, the ideas of a certain thinker are influenced by the local culture in which they were born and raised. Second, the central area where Kang Jeungsan was born, grew up, and later developed his system of philosophical thought was the Jeong-eup Province. Third, in Jeong-eup, Nong-ak is traditionally accompanied as a necessary requirement. Fourth, the Nong-ak that Kang Jeungsan witnessed in his hometown during his lifetime had those qualities. Fifth, Kang Jeungsan empirically identified the close interrelationship between Village Gut Dangsanje, Nong-ak, and Mudanggut from an early age. Sixth, this aspect of influence is tangibly reflected in the words and actions he left behind. Seventh, Kang Jeungsan's experience of Jeong-eup Nong-ak was recreated in the religious music of Bocheonism, where his ideas were formulated into an organized religion for the first time. Eighth, this process of religionizing Nong-ak in Bocheonism greatly influenced later Jeong-eup Nong-ak and also Honam Nong-ak more generally.

  • Places such as famous urban sights and foreign settlements have recently been created in Korea, which reflects the increase in social and cultural exchanges and the number of place-making and landscape-planning projects. Understanding place identity is required in environmental design and planning. This paper examined the components of the identity of place through comparison of perceptions of "placeness" between residents and visitors of Seo-Rae Village, Seoul, Korea. More than 40% of French nationals in Korea reside in the village, which many Koreans visit as an urban sightseeing place. Twenty-five French inhabitants and forty-one Korean visitors were surveyed. Insideness of Seo-Rae Village was formed by limited activities and needs of the residents, primarily children's education and food purchases. Residents mentioned that the physical environment, especially buildings, lacked theauthenticity of French style. The symbolic meaning of the French village influenced the visitors' activities. The authenticity of French style, however, did not affect the perception of visitors and outsideness of the place. Visitors' activities and cognitive meanings of the place were formed mainly by the commercial environment established by Korean investments. Commercialization of the place and related activities played an important role in establishing insideness of the place. The village shows the phenomenon of the reversal of insideness and outsideness. The "placeness" of Seo-Rae village has been shaped by visitors' tastes rather than the true experience of insideness. Mass identity formed by mass media using French characteristics influenced this phenomenon. Insideness formed by inhabitants appeared to be a pseudo-place, which was created by the French tastes of visitors and lacked French authenticity. Seo-Rae Villagerepresents a superficial cloak.

  • A study was conducted to investigate the behavior of pollutant forms at each area in the sewage treatment plant by natural purification method. The sewage treatment plant by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic area was constructed. The efficiency of sewage treatment depending on the operation time, the loading amount of pollutant season variation were investigated. The removal amount of BOD, COD, TOC and SS in the aerobic area was significantly increased as the treatment proceeded. Decreased BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P depending on the loading amount of pollutants in the aerobic and ananerobic area were mostly insoluble BOD (IBOD), insoluble COD (ICOD), soluble TOC (STOC), volatile SS (VSS), dissolved T-N (DTN) and dissolved T-N (DTP) types, respectively. The removal efficiency of BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P in hot season (summer and autumn) were more than that in cold season (spring and winter). The removal efficiencies of BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P of the effluent were about 92, 89, 73, 95, 46 and 84% in all seasons, respectively.

  • This study was carried out to contribute to the self-help and sustainability of grassroots business in Gangwon-do. To achieve this, after setting up the concept of community business, understanding the current designating status of community business and analyzing the business content and the business promotion system, I tried to analyze the continuing factors of businesses and shops, which are more than hundred years old, in Japan and seek a solution to the sustainability of community business in the province. The community business in the province, which is designated and operated, is like this; 86 preliminary social businesses, 62 town businesses, 38 social businesses. The total comes to 186. The preliminary social businesses and the social businesses are assigned more in urban area and the manufacturing sector and educational field have a lot of business contents. When it comes to the business promotion system, there are many incorporated companies and limited companies. While the town businesses are assigned more in county area, the agricultural food field and cultural world have a lot of business contents. When it comes to the main participant of business, the agricultural corporations took the first place overwhelmingly. Especially, I found out that the main participants of community business consist of 38 voluntary associations, which is 20.4 %, and we need to make up for the specialty deficiency in business management. In order to keep the continuity of community business in the province, we could achieve the results of manpower development through the case analysis research, securing good materials which can give the consumers confidence, increasing the quality of the products, maintaining high technical skills, keeping up the tradition of business and demanding forecasting. I think a successive research efforts will be required for securing good materials and increasing the quality of the products in tandem with the local community. And also we need to establish a supporting & operating system through the liaison between the business & academic world, business & administration, and business & business for securing a management specialty as an industrialist.

First, among natural cultural heritage that are designated and protected by Cultural heritage Protection Law, there are 40 scenic sites and 126 natural monuments that have been selected as sacred nature sites. Second, the study showed that sacred nature sites are sacred places that have been long associated with happiness and misfortune of the villagers, including Dangsan Forest, Seunghwanglim(Forest), and, as physical environment and combination of cultural value, rules, and attitude and belief system toward the land that protect the people. The unique folk beliefs of the region provide strong protection of the place. Third, although the natural monuments of old and large trees are not included in the protected area as they are recognized sparsely, but can be designated as world protected area as protected areas are set around sacred nature sites. Fourth, in order to be included in IUCN category, sacred natural sites of scenic sites will need to be managed by specific categories of each area according to the interior status of the designated areas and maintain the sustainability of the natural heritage by protecting both physical and spiritual elements.
