Humidity Dependence of Tribological Behavior of DLC Films (DLC 필름의 마찰마모 특성의 습도 의존성에 대한 연구)

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) film was deposited using benzene $(C_6H_6)$ by r. f-plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition. The tribological properties of the DLC film were tested by rotating ball-on-disc type tribometer isolated by a chamber. The tribological test was performed in air environment of relative humidity ranging from 0 to 90% in order to observe the tribological behavior of the DLC film with the change of humidity. We used steel ball and DLC coated steel ball to investigate the effect of the counterface material. Using steel ball, the friction coefficient of DLC film increased from 0.025 to 0.2 as the humidity increased from 0% to 90%. In case of DLC coated steel ball which didn't form the Fe-rich debris, the friction coefficient showed much lower dependence of humidity as 0.08 in relative humidity 90%. We confirmed that the high humidity dependence of the friction coefficient using steel ball resulted from the increase of debris size with humidity and the formation of Fe-rich debris by the wear of steel ball. And the friction coefficient was immediately dropped when the relative humidity changed from 90% to 0% during test using steel ball. From this result, we confirmed that the effect of the Fe-rich debris on the friction coefficient was that Fe element in debris formed the highly sensitive graphitic transfer layer to humidity.

  • In the circumstance that high oil price state is continued over the world, the investment in crude oil development by oil major is a trend of increasing. Recently the number of delivered drill-ship for 5 years has been sharply increased all over the world and about twice than that of past 30 years. As addition to the increase of the drill-ship demand, the operation of drill-ships which is delivered recently is about 3,000 meters, ultra deep sea, on average and the work area is expending. Accordingly the drilling system including the size and length of pipe for drilling has been bigger and bigger and the power supply equipment for operation system also has large capacity. Unlike merchant vessel, high power and high voltage of diesel generators are required for drill-ship for which the demand for V-type 320 bore of diesel generator has increased. It is on the raised that the importance of lubrication oil cleaning for diesel generator on drill-ship which has longer time for construction, and also long term low load operation is unavoidable during commissioning of equipments. Recently it was reported that engine crankpin was damaged due to the hard contact caused by the abnormal wear down(Cam wear) on crankpin and bearing. The same pattern of wear down was found through the inspection on series vessels and the other vessel under commissioning. The purpose of this paper is to analyze of the wear mechanism based on the observation and theories and objective research from actual cases and to prepare the counter measures to avoid foreseeable damage when the lubricating oil is not properly cleaned.

Evaluation of Effect of Low Opening Operation on Increasing Wear of Bearing Bushings of Guide Vanes used in Hydropower Plants (수력발전소 가이드 베인 저개도율 운전에 따른 가이드 베인 베어링 부슁의 마모 가속효과 평가)

  • A guide vane plays a key role in controlling the flow rate of water supplied to the turbine of a hydropower plant. It has been reported that guide vane bearing bushings are subjected to considerable wear, which requires them to be maintained. An ancillary service such as frequency control and black start causes cyclic low opening operation of the guide vanes. It is empirically well known that such operation increases the wear rate of the guide vane bearing bushing. In this study, the effect of low opening operation on the increasing wear of the guide vane bearing bushing is quantitatively assessed via finite element flow analysis, finite element stress analysis, and relative wear evaluation. As a result of the assessment, it is identified that the pressure applied on the guide vane surface increases and the contact length between the outer surface of the guide vane stem and the inner surface of the bearing bushing decreases with a decrease in the opening of the guide vane. In addition, low opening of the guide vanes results in an increase in the relative wear owing to the generation of high contact pressure on the bearing bushing surfaces.

Effects of Two Phase Flow on Erosion Characteristic in a Rocket Nozzle (2상 유동에 의한 로켓 노즐 마모 특성에 대한 고찰)

  • A numerical analysis of two phase flow in the solid rocket nozzle was conducted. Stoke number was defined over the various aluminum oxide($AI_2$$O_3$) particle sizes and particle trajectories were treated by Lagrangian approach. Particle stability was considered by the definition of Weber number in a rocket nozzle. Large particles are divided after the nozzle throat as the flow accelerates rapidly. The division of particles changes the particle distribution at the nozzle exit. From the above results, it was found that the nozzle converge section surface might be affected by aluminum oxide particles. Also, Mechanical erosion rate of nozzle surface was predicted for different materials.

Study on Fuel Lubrication Performance of a High Speed Rolling Element Bearing (소형 고속 구름베어링의 연료윤활 특성 연구)

  • A parametric study was carried out to find the fuel lubrication performance of high speed small rolling element bearings. Both MIL-PRF-7808 turbine oil and JP-8 aircraft fuel were used as the lubricant to compare the operational characteristics. 17 mm inner diameter deep groove ball bearing and 20 mm cylindrical roller bearing were used. A high speed bearing test rig was developed and the testing was done with varying applied load, cooling air temperature, lubricant flow rate, and speed. Fuel caused more cage wear than oil for ball bearing with increasing axial load and rotational speed. The bearing temperature using fuel was lower than that using oil, and this seems to be the result of the high cooling capacity of fuel. According to various tests, the fuel lubrication is applicable for the lubrication on the main shaft bearings of expendable small gas turbines.

합금화된 단일타겟을 마그네트론 스퍼터를 이용하여 합성된 나노복합구조 Al-Ti-X-N (X=Si,Cu,Cr) 코팅의 기계적 특성

  • 산업 환경에서 친환경 및 에너지효율성을 중요한 조건이 되면서 고효율성 및 다기능을 가진 재료에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 되고 있다. 특히 Al-Ti-N 코팅은 이미 경도 측면에서 우수 하여 고속 공구 부품에 널리 사용되고 있고 최근에 Al-TiN에서 Si 첨가는 40GPa이상의 고경도와 1000도 이상의 산화온도를 지닌 나노 혼합물 코팅을 형성 시키는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서 Al-Ti에 Si, Cu, Cr 을 첨가하였을 때 코팅을 형성하였을 때 바뀌는 물성 변화을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구를 위해 Al-Ti 합금 조성 중 가장 우수한 것으로 알려진 60:40으로 타겟을 만들어 스퍼터 장비를 이용해 코팅을 형성하여 기초 실험을 진행하였다. 그 근거로 하여 3원계인 Si, Cu, Cr 을 첨가하여 각각의 단일 타겟으로 만들고 코팅을 형성하였다. 타겟과 코팅의 성분이 동일한지 확인하기 위해 EPMA분석을 하였고 그 결과 오차 범위 내에 동일한 것으로 확인하였다. 또 내산화성 테스트를 위해 400도에서 1000도로 가열된 대기 중에 코팅 층을 1시간씩 노출시키는 공정을 통해 확인하였고 내식성 테스트는 SUS 304계열 위에 코팅을 하여 Potentiodynamic polarization scan 장비로 비교해 보았다. 표면경도는 3원계 코팅인 경우 질소비율이 증가할수록 30GPa ~ 35GPa까지 증가하였고 XRD 분석 결과와 비교 시 (111), (200) peak가 명확할수록 경도 값이 높은 것으로 확인하였다. 마모테스트 결과 3원계인 코팅 층이 dry상태에서 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 특히 0,26까지 감소한 Si 을 첨가한 코팅 층은 H/E지수도 좋아 마모트랙의 길이도 짧아 우수한 것으로 알 수 있었다. 이런 결과에서 보듯 3원소 이상 첨가 시 특성변화가 차이가 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Microstructure and Wear Characteristics of TiC-SKD11 Composite Fabricated by Liquid Pressing Infiltration Process (용융가압함침 공정으로 제조한 TiC-SKD11 복합재료의 미세조직 및 내마모 특성)

  • Titanium carbide (TiC) reinforced SKD11 matrix composites were successfully fabricated by a novel liquid pressing infiltration process. Microstructure, mechanical properties, and wear characteristics of the fabricated 60 vol% TiC-SKD11 composite are analyzed. The composite exhibits superior mechanical properties, such as hardness and compressive strength with 24% lower density as compared with SKD11. Improved wear resistance of the TiC-SKD11 composite originates from uniformly reinforced TiC having strong interfacial bonding strength between TiC/SKD11 interface.

Full mouth rehabilitation with vertical dimension increase in patient with severly worn dentition (과도한 치아 마모를 보이는 환자에서 수직고경 증가를 동반한 전악 구강 회복 증례)

  • Excessive pathological attrition over the entire dentition can cause decreased masticatory function, and pathological problems of the temporomandibular joint and the muscular nervous system. In this case, 71 year-old male patient with severe attrition and fracture across the entire tooth was treated by full mouth rehabilitation for regaining space of restoration. In order to determine the appropriate vertical dimension of the patient's occlusion, facial appearance, aesthetics, restoration space were evaluated, and provisional restoration of the raised vertical dimension was made. After 4 months of evaluation, the entire restoration of monolithic zirconia crown using CAD-CAM was completed. Through the above process, satisfactory aesthetic and functional results were obtained.

폴리카보네이트 특성 향상을 위한 Al-Si-N 박막의 제작 및 크랙 방지

  • 자동차 산업분야에서 차량 경량화의 한 수단으로, 자동차용 유리를 무게가 가볍고 고강도 투명 고분자 소재인 폴리카보네이트로 대체하고자 하는 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 하지만, 폴리카보네이트의 낮은 내 마모 특성과 자외선에 의한 열화 및 변색 현상은 해결해야 할 문제점으로 지적되고 있다. 본 연구에서는, 폴리카보네이트의 내마모 특성을 향상시키기 위해 HIPIMS+ (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering+) 방법을 이용하여 투과율이 확보되고, 고경도 특성을 갖는 Al-Si-N 박막을 증착하였다. 고속증착을 하기 위해 Target에 인가되는 Power를 올리게 되었는데, 열팽창 계수가 큰 고분자 물질인 폴리카보네이트 시료의 온도가 상승하여 증착된 박막과의 열팽창 계수 차이에 의해 박막에 Crack이 형성되는 문제가 발생하였다. 증착되는 Al-Si-N 박막의 공정 압력에 따른 Stress 제어 방법 및 폴리카보네이트 시료의 온도 상승을 막기 위한 알루미늄 구조체를 이용함으로써 박막의 Crack 형성을 억제하고자 하였다. 박막의 Stress를 확인하기 위하여 AFM (Atomic Force Microscope)과 OM (Optical Microscope)을 이용하여 분석하였고, 박막의 경도는 Knoop ${\mu}$-hardness tester를 사용하여 측정하였다. Al-Si-N 박막 경도는 Si at.%/(Al at.% + Si at.%) 비율이 16%에서 33 GPa의 경도를 갖는 것을 확인하였다. UV-Vis Spectrometer를 이용하여 투과율을 측정한 결과, 400-700 nm 파장의 가시광 영역 평균 투과율은 80%로 측정되었다.

A Physical Characteristics and Synthesis of Top Coat Polymeric Dispersion Film by Complex Polyol (복합폴리올 이용한 Top coat용 수분산 고분자 필름의 합성 및 물리적 특성)

  • Polyurethane resin used to leather coat was synthesized by the addition reaction of PPG and PTMG with different mole ratios. Physical characteristics of the synthesized polyurethane resin were measured by the SEM, FT-IR and the UTM. Increasing mole ratio of PTMG having four methylene groups caused the increase of abrasion resistance and tensile strength. The elongation was decreased. As we measured the solvent(toluene) resistance of poly urethane resin, it was found the there were no effect of PTMG mole ratios on the phyhsical properties of the resin. The viscosity was increased by ratio of PTMG mole ratio.
