Quantitative Analysis of Fuel in Engine Oil (엔진오일 내 연료성분 정량분석)

  • The contaminated engine oil by fuel can intimidate driver safety due to vehicle problems such as engine abrasion, fire and sudden unintended acceleration. In this study, we investigate various functional properties of the engine oil contaminated with fuel. The test results indicated that the engine oil contaminated with fuel had relatively low values of the flash point, pour point, density, kinematic viscosity and cold cranking simulator. Furthermore, a four ball test suggested that the contaminated engine oil increased wear scar due to the poor lubricity. Moreover, SIMDIST (simulated distillation) using ASTM D2887 was applied to analyze fuel characteristics in an engine oil. The SIMDIST analysis result showed a lower carbon number, and the fuel was detected at an earlier retention time than that of using engine oil in chromatogram. Also, it is possible to quantitatively analyze for fuel contents in the engine oil. The SIMDIST method for the diagnosis of oil conditions can be used whether the fuel was involved or not, instead of analyzing other physical properties that require various analytical instruments, large volumes of oil samples, and long analysis time.

Studies on solid inflammable lubricants for refractory slates (내화물 슬레이트용 고체윤활제의 연구)

  • In order to produce an optimal performance solid lubricant used in the refractory slates, various compositions of starch, graphite and water were evaluated by testing their viscosity, coefficient of friction and wear performance. At 15% starch content, the degree of viscosity increment rose in proportional to graphite content and the lowest coefficient of friction was observed when the graphite content was at 30 wt%. Our results demonstrate that, as the water content decrease, the ratio of solid content increases, which compromises the surface coating resulting in increase of coefficient of friction. The best wear test result was obtained when the starch content was at 15 wt% with graphite content at either 25 wt% or 30 wt%.

  • 현재 초고속 가공 공구의 국내 시장은 150억원이며 향후 3년 내에 1500억원으로 급성 장활 전망이다. 무윤활 초고속 가공을 실현하기 위해서는 윤활특성이 우수한 초고경도 코팅의 개발이 필요하며 이를 통해 기계설비의 수명향상과 폐유문제 해결을 기대할 수 있다. 기존의 고체윤활 코팅은 초고경도 코팅의 상부에 $MoS_2$, Graphite 등 윤활성 박막을 합성하였으나, 이들은 Hexagonal 구조의 연질 박막이며 수분이 존재하는 대기중에서는 윤활 및 내마모 특성이 급격히 저하된다. 환경친화 대체소재 개발의 일원으로 TiN, ZrN 박막 등이 이미 개발되었고 기계적 특성이 우수하여 널리 응용되고 있으나 아직 경도(약 20GPa 내외) 및 윤활성의 한계 (마찰계수 $\mu=O.6$)를 극복하지 못하고 있다. TiN박막 위의 Cu의 첨가는 TiN의 구조와 성질을 크게 변화시키는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 TiN 기지 위에 Cu를 도핑함으로써 경도의 상승을 통환 내구력의 향상과 마찰계수의 감소를 통한 윤활성의 향상을 보고자하였다. TiN합성의 안정화를 위하여 magnetron sputtering과 arc ion pIatingd을 병용한 hybrid 공정을 이용하였다. Cu첨가에 따른 결정 성장 거동의 변화를 보기 위해 XRD 분석을 실행하였고, EDS 분석을 통해 Cu target 전류밀도에 의한 기지내의 Cu의 함량변화를 고찰하였으며, 경도 및 윤활특성을 고찰하기 위해서 경도 시험과 마모 시험(ball-on disc type test)를 하였다.

  • The tribiological characteristics such as friction coefficient, friction stability, wear rate and braking temperature between various types of metallic friction materials and heat resistant steel disk, were investigated by using lab-scale dynamometer. Friction materials for high speed train have higher friction coefficient and friction stability as compared to aircraft friction materials even though friction materials for high speed train have lower wear rate. In addition. Cu-matrix friction materials have higher temperature increase rate than Fe-matrix friction materials. All friction surfaces have Fe-base oxide layer after completing test.

  • Disk brake system take charge of maximum braking energy among the mechanical brake systems for high speed train. For this reason, Metallic friction materials and heat resistant steel disk is adopted at disk brake system for high speed train. It was investigated tribological characteristics(friction coefficient, friction stability, wear rate and braking temperature) between some kinds of metallic friction materials and heat resistant steel disk. Cu-based friction material for high speed train have suitable tribological characteristics.

  • In the product development process, the reliability of the product can be secured through durability tests. However, since the durability test method is expensive and time consuming, a method to save time and money by utilizing virtual product development (VPD) is required. However, research on the accuracy of the results of virtual product development is required. In this paper, an accelerated durability test was designed and conducted using a planetary gear decelerator. And an analysis model under the same conditions was created and simulated. To correlate the results of the experiment with the results of the analytical model, created a model that can discriminate the wear region using one of the data mining methods, the k-means algorithm method and HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value). The wear area is compared by counting the number of pixels defined as wear through a discrimination model. A similar ratio was calculated by comparing the pixel ratio of the area determined as wear in the entire area. It showed a similar ratio of about 70%, and it is necessary to improve the discrimination method.

  • The aggregate out of waste polyethylene was made in order to recycle waste polyethylene wasted in the country side. Many physical and mechanical experiments which include leaching test, specific gravity test, compaction test, LA abrasion test, large-scaled shear test, and permeability test were performed for the waste polyethylene aggregate. The thermal conductivity test, unfrozen water content test and frost heave test were also performed. The temperature distribution for both gravels and waste polyethylene aggregate, which were constructed in the frost heave layer in the field, was measured in winter season of continuous 2 years and compared.

  • Rolling contact fatigue and wear on rails are inevitable in railway operations due to excessive wheel-rail contact stress. The wear is influenced by vehicle speed, contact pressure, environmental conditions, and many other factors. Speeding on a curved track causes many problems such as wear on the gauge of the rail and rolling contact fatigue. Managing environmental conditions can reduce problems on the wheel and rail interface. In this study, the wear characteristics of wheel and rail materials were investigated by twin-disc testing using various parameters. The results of the wear test indicated that the wear rate under dry conditions was larger than that under wet conditions. We found that contact fatigue damage occurred on the rail in dry conditions, however, the surface of the specimen under water remained smooth. Also, the friction coefficient in dry conditions was larger than in wet conditions.

  • To resolve environmental problem of waste tire and asbestos and also to capitalize the wastes, we developed a new kind of friction material using scrap tire, potassium hexatitanate, filler, and friction modifier in which rubber made a continuous phase. The material containing 5, 20, 10, 20phr of potassium hexatitanate, phenol, friction modifier, $BaSO_4$, respectively showed good friction properties, high and stable coefficient or friction, and low wear rate.

질화 및 Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) 동시처리가 가능한 장치 및 처리물의 특성평가

  • 표면경도와 내마모특성을 가진 질화처리는 다양한 철강재료에 적용되고 있다. 플라즈마를 이용한 질화법은 다른 질화처리법에 비해 처리시간이 짧고 폐수 및 배기가스와 같은 오염물질의 발생이 거의 없어 친환경적이며 낮은 온도에서 처리가 가능하기 때문에 변형 및 금속학적 물성의 변화가 없는 것이 특징이다. 한편 DLC 처리법은 물리화학적 특성이 다이아몬드와 유사하면서도 저온 합성이 가능하고, 표면이 평활하다는 합성기술상의 장점을 가지고 있기 때문에 많은 분야에서의 응용이 연구되고 있는 재료이다. 특히 고경도, 고윤활성 등의 물리적, 화학적, 광학적 특성과 화학적 안정성과 신체적합성 등의 특성으로 인해 기계부품, 공구, 광학기기, 전자부품, 자동차부품과 의료용 기기분야 등에 적용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 질화처리 및 DLC 처리를 한 챔버내에서 동시처리하여 그 특성을 평가하였다. 이와같이 얻어진 처리물을 Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope를 이용하여 단면분석을 하였고, 시편의 경도는 나노인덴터로 측정하였다. ball-on-disk 방식의 마모시험기를 이용하여 내마모특성을 관찰하였으며, 접합력을 측정하기 위해 스크래치 테스트를 실시하였다.
