Fracture Mechanics Study on Wear Mechanism of Ceramics -Discussions on Experimental Results of Wear Test- (세라믹의 마멸기구에 관한 파괴역학적 연구 -마멸실험 결과의 고찰-)

  • Analytically induced wear mechanism of elastic body under Hertzian contact is applied in acutual wear test of ceramics. There are two types of wear in ceramics, a large scale wear and a small scale wear. The large scale wear is commensurable with Hertzian contact area and the small scale wear with real contact area. Nondimensional parameter, S$_{c}$, is introduced and fully examined to estimate or predict wear rate of ceramics. Ceramic wear for S$_{c}$.leq.0.8 is in small scale wear and for S$_{c}$;geq.1.6 in large scale wear. wear.

  • 본 연구에서는 용사코팅재료의 용사기법에 따른 용가코팅층의 기계적 물성을 파악하고 SM48C 고주파 경화 시편과 용사코팅재료와의 고하중, 고속 윤활상태에 따른 슬라이딩 마멸특성을 파악하고자 하였다. Fe-Cr-B의 용사코팅 공정표면의 경도와 기공율이 슬라이딩 마멸거동에 큰 역할을 마치며, 특히 표면 기공율은 슬라이딩 조건(속도, 하중, 윤활)에 따라서 마멸특성이 우수한 최적이 영역이 존해할 것으로 판단된다.

  • 고도로 자동화가 진전된 생산 시스템에서의 가공은 NC 공작기계, 머시닝 센터등에 의해 이루어지고 있으나, 작업 상태에 대한 감시 및 공구교환 시점의 결정은 작업자에 의해 행해지고 있으므로, 무인화에 큰 장애가 되고 있다. 최근 머시닝센터 를 중심으로 가공이 많이 이루어지고 있는 실정에서, 머시닝센터 전체 작업중 대략 40% 정도를 차지하는 드릴 작업에서 공구 상태에 대한 감시는 가공 무인화를 위해서는 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 드릴가공시 주축 및 Z축 모터전류와 공구마멸과의 정성적 및 정량적 관련성을 조사하기 위해 전류의 진폭영역 정보인 평균, 분산, 왜도(skewness), 첨도(kurtosis)등의 신호처리를 행하여, 이들값이 공구마멸이 진행됨에따라 변화하는 특성을 조사하였다.

  • A fretting wear test rig for dry ambient condition, which employs a piezoelectric actuator, has been developed. It is driven and loaded in a very simple manner with acceptable experimental accuracy. By using the rig, Inconel 690 tube has been tested under the normal load of 10 and 15N with sliding amplitude of less than $100{\mu}m$ during $10^6$cycles. The wear resistance of the material has been characterized in terms of the wear coefficient based on the work rate model. SEM micrographs show the complex structures of the scars, which consist of risen peaks, plate-type thin layers and locally exposed bare surfaces. The cracks spread over the layers give clue to the fretting wear mechanism of the material.

  • The journal bearings use in machine parts which move relative to each other and those reduce friction and wear of journals. The journal bearings are designed to operate in the hydyodynamic lubrication regime, but elastohydrodynamic lubrication nay occur if the pressures are too high or the running speeds are too low at machine elements. It is the phenomenon that the lubricant film is broken and some parts of surfaces are in rolling contact, so that wear will increase in mixed lubrication regime. The purpose of this study is to minimize the wear rate of journal bearings for extending machine life. The wear mate in mixed lubricated regime is selected as objective function because most of wear of the journal bearings develops in elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The journal bearings we represented by a bearing radius, shaft radius, and bearing width, but the bearing radius only is selected as design variables due to a bearing radius has an influence on friction loss, stability limit velocity, and film parameter, which are used as constraints. For numerical calculation, PLBA, that is a class of the RQP algorithm, is used.

  • The acoustic emission(AE) signal is monitored in milling operation in order to investigate the relationship between the progressive tool wear and the AE signals. A signal processing technique so called time domain averaging(TDA) is presented for the elimination of the influences of the noise imbedded in the periodic signals. The relationship between the progressive tool wear and the AE signals is investigated by varying the cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and the number of insert. From the measured data, it is observed that the averaged level of the AE signal increases at first with the increase of flank wear to a certain critical value, and then stays almost constant or fluctuates with further increase of the flank wear.

  • 윤활시스템에서 마모는 상대적인 운동을 하는 두 물체사이에서 표면상태, 접촉조건 및 분위기등의 제요소들에 의해 발생되며, 형태학적으로 scuffing, scoring, pitting 및 fretting 등으로 분류된다. 윤활조건의 특성에 따라 미끄럼 접촉에서는 mild wear, severe wear로 구분되며, 이들의 마모 생성기구의 차이는 접촉상대속도, 하중 및 표면조도등의 정도에 기인된다. mild wear에서 severe wear 영역으로 전이될 때의 가혹한 조건에서 생성되는 마모현상을 scuffing wear라 하며, 이는 접촉면에서의 표면돌기의 직접접촉에 의한 cold welding 현상, 즉 local welds의 특성을 지닌 마멸형태로 정의한다. 이의 생성은 접점간의 하중 및 미끄럼 속도가 증가됨에 따라 온도상승에 기인되어 순간적으로 발생된 마찰열이 그 원인이 있으며, 기어, cam 및 tappet, 피스톤링 및 실린더 라이너 등의 마멸현상이 대표적인 예이다.

  • The fretting wear characteristics for Zircaloy-4 tube used as fuel rod in the nuclear power plant have been investigated. The fretting wear tester was designed and manufactured for this experiment. This study was focused on main factors of fretting wear, cycle, slip amplitude and normal load. The worn surfaces were observed by SEM.

  • Fretting is the oscillatory motion with very small amplitudes, which usually occurs between two solid surfaces in contact. Fretting wear is the removal of material from contacting surfaces through fretting action. Fretting wear of steam generator tubes in nuclear power plant becomes a serious problem in recent years. The materials for the tubes usually are Inconel 690 (I-690) and Inconel 600 (I-600). In this paper, fretting wear tests for I-690 and I-600 were performed under various applied loads in water at room temperature. Results showed that the fretting wear loss of I-690 and I-600 tubes was largely influenced by stick-slip. The fretting wear mechanisms were the abrasive wear in slip regime and the delamination wear in stick regime. Also, I-690 had somewhat better wear resistance than I-600.

  • In this paper, a fabrication method of low-loss tapered optical fibers coupler using hydrofluoric acid with surface tension driven is proposed. The proposed fabrication method is very simple compared to flame-based method, and shows low excess insertion losses compared to polishing method. The adiabatic-tapered structure along the coupling region of the coupler shows wavelength independent characteristic over the C-band in optical communication system, and will enable promising applications.
