The purpose of this study is to grope for plan methods through analyzing preferences on expression methods of materials for visual differentiation in hosing space. The results are as follows : First, we could know that finish material is the important element to make differential design in housing space. It is a effective method to use the color and material of finish materials. Second, we could find they preferred woods in materials and Y color, N9.5, bright and light in colors through grasping preference about types in material elements. The preferred texture is soft and the preferred patterns are solid and geometry. Third, it is a good method to mix materials which give us different season feeling, and to mix colors which are different tones to lead the differential design by materials in housing space. In case texture and patterns, what we mix similar things is the effective method. Fourth, preference of the expression method is manifested differently depending on the selected elements. so when we plan the housing, we have to consider that. lastly, I think this study will be a basic data on a study to differentiate the design of the residential space.

The purpose of this study is to focus on living rooms that are preferred as a place for changing space image to the maximum and to find a method how finishing materials are expressed by selecting space with mix & match of many images. The study methods are as follows. First, understand the expressive trend of space images through the precedent studies and magazines, and examine its relationship with finishing materials. Second, select space images based on the contents understood earlier and extract adjective words that represent each space image through an expert survey. Third, find the cases where space images are expressed based on the extracted words and analyze expression methods of finishing materials. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that recent space images are actively expressed through finishing materials. Second, space images selected through data related to the trend were classified as modern+natural, modern+traditional, modern+retro, classic+natural, classic+humor, and futurism+natural and 4 adjective words for each space image were extracted. Third, expressive elements of finishing materials were extracted as 'material'. 'texture', 'color', and 'pattern' through the precedent studies. Fourth, expressive methods of finishing materials for each space image could be suggested by analyzing the examples that show mix & match based on the contents extracted earlier. Lastly, it is expected to find various methods that lead space image into finishing materials by evaluating responses and changes in visual perception of residents according to expression of finishing materials based on this study.

The purpose of this study is to be applied with the basic data for the design method in the housing space which is differential. So, we analyzed the expression method and the application characteristic to materials of units in housing complex. To that, we researched on the condition of finishing material about the kind of material, color, texture and pattern for components in living room space. The results of this study are as follows : First, at the present time, the Object concept is expressed by 'mixing' and 'juxtaposition' of material, texture and pattern of finishing materials in housing space. But, we could find that the Object concept was used restrictively in housing space. So, we have to find different expression methods to be the effective and differential design by being applied Object concept for the housing space. Second, the 'mixing' which is the method to express the Object concept is showed in only 'art wall'. so, we can estimate that the method is the limited method to plan the varied housing. It is needed various expression methods to design components for the housing space. Third, it showed that the 'mixing' was a passive expression method using a little differential for design of housing space. We could estimate that similar methods were applied to the housing design. By results of this study, we can think that the develop study is needed to find design methods for expression of the Object in housing space.
