볼 베어링용 고무시일의 접촉력 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Contact Force of Rubber Seals for Ball Bearings)

  • 본 연구에서는 시일 립의 간섭량과 접촉력에 관련된 이론적 연구를 수행한다. 시일의 접촉면에서 축방향 접촉력이 크게 설계되면 시일 립 선단에서는 마찰과 마멸이 심하게 진행되어 시일수명을 크게 단출시킬 우려가 있고, 접촉력이 작으면 밀봉된 유 체의 누설유려가 증가되면서 볼과 레이스사이의 윤활상태를 나쁘게 하여 베어링 수명 을 크게 단축하는 결과를 초래하게 되므로 시일 립의 접촉력에 관련된 연구는 대단히 중요하다.

휠 베어링용 밀봉 시일 설계를 위한 시일 립의 밀착력 예측 (Prediction of the Reaction Force for Seal Lip Design with Wheel Bearing Unit)

  • Wheel bearing units were almost exclusively used for car front wheel, where the two ball rows are directly side by side with integrated rubber seal. The seal is of important for wheel bearing units due to the adverse environmental conditions with mud and splash water. The seal of wheel bearing units was designed to have geometry with multi lips, which elastic lip contacts and deforms with bearing. The equation of reaction force for deformed lip as cantilever beam was previously used for seal lip design. But it's result was not useful because deflection of the beam differs from lip's. In this study, deformed shape of the lip was assumed to and order function which is more similar to lip deformation and made the equation for reaction force prediction. The Reaction forces from each other equations were compared with results by FEA to prove usefulness of new equation.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate geometric effect on the contact stress at a lip seal. The geometries of interest were angle, thickness of lip seal and width of contact surface. The contact stress was calculated by using a coupled thermo-mechanical analysis method. The friction thermal load between lip seal and sleeve was adopted to design load. Based on the FEA results, design variables for controlling the maximum contact stress at the lip seal were identified.

  • 유압 실린더용 유패킹의 접촉력, 접촉폭, 돌출발생 임계압력을 밀봉간극에 대하여 유한요소법을 이용하여 수치적으로 해석하였다. 초기 간섭량이 증가함에 따라 접촉력 및 접촉폭은 급격하게 증가하였다. 그러나 유압이 작용하는 상태에서 밀봉간극이 감소하면 시일의 돌출현상이 발생하는 임계압력은 보다 가파르게 증가함을 확인하였다. 초기 간섭량에 의한 접촉력으로 부터 유압 실린더의 누설에 관련된 사용 최저 유압을 연계하여 갑섭량이 설계되어야하고, 돌출발생 임계압력으로 부터는 사용 최고유압과 관련하여 간극이 설계되어야 하므로 이에 대한 수치해석적 설계자료를 제시하였다. 특히 시일립부의 접촉면을 나타내는 축방향에 따라서 접촉력 분포는 시일립 선단부와 돌출현상에 따른 상호 복잡한 결과의 중요성을 제시하였다. 이 결과는 윤활해석을 위한 탄성유체윤활 해석시 입력자료로 사용될 수 있어 실제 유막두께 해석 및 유동해석을 통하여 누설량 예측 등에 이용될 수 있는 설게자료이다.

유니버설 조인트 베어링용 시일의 성능평가를 위한 유한요소해석 (Finite Element Analysis for Performance Evaluation of the Seal in a Universal Joint Bearing)

  • Seals in a universal joint bearing are important components reinforcing lubrication performance by holding lubricant and preventing infiltration of dust, moisture, etc.. There is a great difference in seal performance according to seal shape and bonding position. Therefore, in this study, as for both the lip type seal and the O-ring type seal, FE analysis is conducted using Mooned-Rivlin Model. The results show that O-ring type seal does not have any effect of misalignment angle compared with lib type seal, which is more profitable.

응력완화와 립 시일의 성능의 관계에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Stress Relaxation and Performance of a Lip Seal)

  • A lip seal is widely used not only to prevent leakage of fluids from an actuator or a rotating shaft but also to exclude outside substances. Recently, TPU(Thermoplastic Polyurethane), which is one of the sealing materials, has been frequently used due to its excellent mechanical properties and wear resistance. The material constants for finite element analysis through the experiment on stress relaxation are presented. The reaction forces of a shaft as well as the contact pressures of a lip seal under condition before and after stress relaxation using finite element analysis were obtained, The results show that stress relaxation has not a little effect on the performance of a lip seal.

Therefore, in this study, as for the lib type seal and O-ring type seal, FEM analysis are conducted using Mooney-Rivlin Model. The results are indicate that O-ring having higher contact stress and larger contact area than lib type is more profitable.

반응표면법을 사용한 자동차용 휠 베어링 시일의 형상 최적화 (Shape Optimization of an Automotive Wheel Bearing Seal Using the Response Surface Method)

  • This paper presents the shape optimization process for the automotive wheel bearing seal lip using the finite element method and the response surface method. First, to predict performance of the bearing seal lip, we used the non-linear finite element analysis. And then, we compared the analysis results with the test results to verify the finite element model. The objective function in optimizing process was obtained from results of the mud slurry test, which is one of many tests for evaluating performance of wheel bearing. After the mud slurry test for the four models which have the similar cross-sectional shape, we measured the wear area of the seal lip and the moisture content in grease. The objective function has been chosen by comparing the results of mud slurry test and characteristics of seal lip, such as contact force, contact area, contact pressure, and interference. Finally, within limited design parameters, we suggested the optimized shape of seal lip, which is expected to improve the wear and the sealing effect of it.

로터리 유니온용 립 시일의 거동 해석 (Analysis of a Lip Seal Behavior for Rotary Union)

  • Various type of rotary unions are widely used to provide fluids between rotating parts. To prevent fluid leakage, most of the rotary unions adopt mechanical seals which is highly reliable but too expensive and complicate. In this paper, a simple lip seal system made of PTFE is adopted in designing of a compact rotary union. Using MARC, the behavior characteristics of lip seal are investigated for seal mounting process, and obtained variations of contact pressure distribution and contact width with interferences and fluid pressures. The results showed that contact width are increased with interference and pressure. The maximum contact pressure are also increased up to a certain interference and pressure, however, then decreased. The numerical methods and results can be applied in designing and performance improvement of lip seal adopted rotary union, and further extensive studies are required.
