In this paper, we report on an investigation of highly sensitive sensing performance of a hydrogen sensor composed of palladium (Pd) nanowires. The Pd nanowires have been grown by electrodeposition into nanochannels and liberated from the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template by dissolving in an aqueous solution of NaOH. A combination of photo-lithography, electron beam lithography and a lift-off process has been utilized to fabricate the sensor using the Pd nanowire. The hydrogen concentrations for 2% and 0.1% were obtained from the sensitivities (${\Delta}R/R$) for 1.92% and 0.18%, respectively. The resistance of the Pd nanowires depends on absorption and desorption of hydrogen. Therefore, we expect that the Pd nanowires can be applicable for detecting highly sensitive hydrogen gas at room temperature.

The HDD(hard disk drive) using Load/unload(L/UL) technology includes the benefits which are increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance than those of contact-start-stop(CSS). It has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main objects of L/UL are no slider-disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL system. In this paper, we focus on lift-off force. The 'lift-off' force, defined as the minimum air bearing force, is another very important indicator of unloading performance. A large amplitude of lift-off force increases the ramp force, the unloading time, the slider oscillation and contact-possibility. To minimize 'lift-off' force we optimizes the slider and suspension using the integrated optimization frame, which automatically integrates the analysis with the optimization and effectively implements the repetitive works between them. In particular, this study is carried out the optimal design considering the process of modes tracking through the entire optimization processes. As a result, we yield the equation which can easily find a lift-off force and structural optimization for suspension.

In a long-span bridge, the cables are important elements that support the load of the bridge. Accordingly, the cable tension is a very important variable in evaluating the health and safety of the bridge. The most popular methods of estimating the cable tensions are the direct method, which directly measures the cable stresses using load cells, hydraulic jacking devices, etc., and the vibration method, which inverses the tensions using the cable shapes and the measured dynamic characteristics. Studies on the use of the electromagnetic (EM) sensor, which detects the magnetic field variations caused by the change in the stress of the steel in the cable, are increasing. In this study, the lift-off test, the EM sensor, and the vibration method (Vision-based System and Accelerometer) were used to measure cable tension, and their results were compared and analyzed.

In general, organic TFTs are comprised of four components: gate electrode, gate dielectric, organic active semiconductor layer, and source and drain contacts. The TFT current, in turn, is typically determined by channel length and width, carrier field effect mobility, gate dielectric thickness and permittivity, contact resistance, and biasing conditions. More recently, a number of techniques and processes have been introduced to the fabrication of OTFT circuits and displays that aim specifically at reduced fabrication cost. These include microcontact printing for the patterning of metals and dielectrics, the use of photochemically patterned insulating and conducting films, and inkjet printing for the selective deposition of contacts and interconnect pattern. In the fabrication of organic TFTs, microcontact printing has been used to pattern gate electrodes, gate dielectrics, and source and drain contacts with sufficient yield to allow the fabrication of transistors. We were fabricated a pentacene OTFTs on flexible PEN film. Au/Cr was used for the gate electrode, parylene-c was deposited as the gate dielectric, and Au/Cr was chosen for the source and drain contacts; were all deposited by ion-beam sputtering and patterned by microcontact printing and lift-off process. Prior to the deposition of the organic active layer, the gate dielectric surface was treated with octadecyltrichlorosilane(OTS) from the vapor phase. To complete the device, pentacene was deposited by thermal evaporation and patterned using a parylene-c layer. The device was shown that the carrier field effect mobility, the threshold voltage, the subthreshold slope, and the on/off current ratio were improved.

New nondestructive inspection (NDI) technique to detect the defect in metal was developed in which an electromagnetic field is induced in a metal by AC current flowing in the magnetic coil and the leak magnetic-flux disturbed by defects is measured using a tape-recorder head with air gap. This technique can be applied in evaluating the location and sizing of surface defects in components of the ferromagnetic body by means of the non-contacting measurement. In this paper, we have applied this technique to the evaluation of two-dimensional surface cracks in ferromagnetic metal, and also investigated the influence of the various frequencies and lift-off. Defects were detected with maximum values in the distribution of voltage and it was found that the maximum values tend to increase with the defect depth. Although the maximum values for defects are affected by the frequency and lift-off, the depth of small defects can be estimated from the linear relationship between the depth and voltage rate$(V_0/V_{ave})$.

In eddy current testing(ECT), differential probes have been frequently used since they .an reduce the number of parameters that influence ECT signals. However, differential signal is actually the difference of the two coils' impedance so that signal prediction and interpretation are not easy, On the other hand, absolute coil signal is rather straightforward to predict and analyze. Therefore, combined use of the two types of signals would increase the test reliability. In this paper, absolute coil signals from Inconel plate and tubes are predicted by the finite element analysis and efforts of lift-off, fill-factor, conductivity, operating frequency, test specimen thickness, inner diameter defects, and outer diameter defects are investigated. As a result, various impedance plane diagrams are drawn and analyzed. Significant practical knowldege about absolute signals is accumulated and similar characteristics of the two types of signal could be understood. Finally, slope angle versus defect depth calibration corves are prepared for three different frequencies.

We have investigated the experiments in which fabrication and characterization of single-electron transistors were conducted due to easy fabrication and high functionality. In the Fe-MgF2 granular film, in which Fe grains are distributed between insulators instead of the conventional quantum dots, it can be easily fabricated by EB deposition alone, and various output values can be expected by applying two or more gate voltages. The tunneling thickness of the film for single-electron operation was investigated and it was confirmed that the tunneling occurred at 2.1 nm.

Dense and periodic arrays of holes and Si nano dots were fabricated on silicon substrate. The nanopatterned holes were approximately $15{\sim}40nm$ wide, 40 nm deep and $40{\sim}80\;nm$ apart. To obtain nano-size patterns, self?assembling diblock copolymer were used to produce layer of hexagonaly ordered parallel cylinders of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) in polystyrene(PS) matrix. The PMMA cylinders were degraded and removed with acetic acid rinse to produce a PS. $100\;{\AA}-thick$ Au thin film was deposited by using e-beam evaporator. PS template was removed by lift-off process. Arrays of Au nano dots were transferred by using Fluorine-based reactive ion etching(RE). Au nano dots were removed by sulfuric acid. Si nano dots size and height were $30{\sim}70\;nm$ and $10{\sim}20\;nm$ respectively.

Various ECT techniques have been applied basically to assess the integrity of steam generator tithing in nuclear power plant. Among these techniques, the bobbin probe technique is applied generally to examine the volumetric flaws such as a crack-like defect and wear which is generally occurred on steam generator tubing, and additionally MRPC probe is used to examine closely tile top of tubesheet and bending regions due to the high possibility of cracking. Dent and bulge also may be formed on tube during installation process and operation of steam generator, but the dent and bulge indications greater than specific size criteria are recorded on examination report because these indications are not considered as flaw. These indications can be easily detected with bobbin probe and approximately sized with profile bobbin probe, but the size and shape can not be accurately verified. Accordingly, in this study, the $8{\times}1$ multi-array EC probe was designed to increase the measurement accuracy of the sectional profiling EC testing of tube. As a result, we would like to propose the application of $8{\times}1$ multi-array EC probe for the measurement of size and shape of profile change on steam generator tube in OPR-1000 nuclear power plant.

Magnetic nondestructive testing is very useful far detecting a crack on the surface or near of the surface of the ferromagnetic materials. The distribution of the magnetic flux leakage (DMFL) on a specimen has to be obtained quantitatively to evaluate the crack. The magnetic camera is proposed to obtain the DMFL at the large lift-off. The magnetic camera consists of a magnetic source, magnetic lens, analog to digital converters (ADCs), interface, and computer. The magnetic leakage fields or the distorted magnetic fields from the object, which are concentrated on the magnetic lens, are converted to analog electrical signals tv arrayed small magnetic sensors. These analog signals are converted to digital signals by the ADCs, and are stored, imaged, and processed by the interface and computer. However the magnetic camera has limitations with respect to converting and switching speed, full range and resolution, direct memory access (DMA), temporary storage speed and volume because common ADCs were used. Improved techniques, such as those that introduce the operational amplifier (OP-Amp), amplify the signal, reduce the connection line, and use the low pass filter (LPF) to increase the signal to noise ratio are necessary. This paper proposes the exclusive embedded ADC including OP-Amp, LPF, microprocessor and DMA circuit for the magnetic camera to satisfy the conditions mentioned above.
