The Variation of Stress Concentration Factor and Crack Initiation Behavior on the Hole Defects Around the Rivet Hole in a Aircraft Materials (항공재료 리벳홀에 인접한 원공결함의 위치에 따른 응력집중계수의 변화와 균열발생거동)

  • The material deficiencies in the form of pre-existing defects can initiated cracks and fractures. The stress distribution and fatigue crack initiation life of engineering materials may be associated with the size, the shape and the relative location of defects contained in the component. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of arbitrarily located hole defect around the rivet hole of a wing section in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates under cyclic bending moment during a service load. The stress distribution and the fatigue crack initiation behavior near a rivet hole of on the relationships between stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and relative position of defects were considered. The test results indicated the features of different stress field. Therefore, the stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and the fatigue crack initiation behavior was illustrated different behavior according to each position of hole defect around the rivet hole in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates.

  • The rivet joint has typical structural feature that can be initiation site for the fatigue crack due to the combination of local stress concentration around rivet hole and the moisture trapping. From a viewpoint of structural assurance, it is crucial to evaluate the size of crack around the rivet holes by appropriate nondestructive evaluation techniques. Lamb wave that is one of guided waves, offers a more efficient tool for nondestructive inspection of plates. The neural network that is considered to be the most suitable for pattern recognition has been used by researchers in NDE field to classify different types of flaws and flaw sizes. In this study, clack size evaluation around the rivet hole using the neural network based on the back-propagation algorithm has been tarried out by extracting some features from the ultrasonic Lamb wave for A12024-T3 skin panel of aircraft. Special attention was paid to reduce the coupling effect between the transducer and the specimen by extracting some features related to time md frequency component data in ultrasonic waveform. It was demonstrated clearly that features extracted from the time and frequency domain data of Lamb wave signal were very useful to determine crack size initiated from rivet hole through neural network.

기술현황분석 - 알루미늄 차체부품의 SPR 접합기술 동향

  • 자동차 차체 경량화를 위해 알루미늄 스페이스 프레임 구조가 개발되고 있으나, 관재결합이 필요하기 때문에 기존의 저항 점용접이 적용되기 어렵다. 또한, 멤버와 멤버의 연결부에서는 철강재난 고강도 재료의 사용이 요구되므로 이종재료 접합기술이 필요하다. 알루미늄 및 이종재료 접합방법으로는 볼트체결, 클린칭, SPR 접합, 접착재 등이 있으나, SPR 접합은 기계적인 결합방법의 하나로, 일반 리벳공정과는 달리 별도의 홀이 필요없기 때문에 자동화에 용이하며 작업시간도 빠르다. 리벳의 압입 방식으로 판재의 열변형이 거의 없고 친환경적인 공법으로 사용되고 있으며, 소음이 적고, 용접이 불가능한 이종재료의 결합도 가능하다. 무엇보다 자동차 양산용 장비 적용이 용이하기 때문에 기존의 저항 점용접을 대체하기 편리하다. 따라서, 본 글에서는 알루미늄 차체 부품 접합을 위한 SPR 접합공법에 대한 국내외 기술개발 동향을 분석하고, 한국기계연구원에서의 최근 기술개발 내용을 소개하고자 한다.

  • PDP 섀시는 우리나라의 핵심 제품중의 하나인 POP의 부품으로 특정 공장에서 한 달에 수만 개 이상을 생산하고 있다. 섀시에 포함된 홀, 탭홀, 스터드, 리벳의 유무를 검사하는데 모든 제품에 대한 전수검사가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 컴퓨터 비젼 기술을 이용한 POP 섀시 자동 시각 검사 시스템을 설계 구현하였고 이를 산업체에서 적용한 결과 신속하고 정확한 100% 검사가 가능함을 보였다.

  • A self-piercing rivet (SPR) is a mechanical component for joining dissimilar material sheets such as those of aluminum alloy and steel. Unlike conventional rivets, the SPR directly pierces sheets without the need for drilling them beforehand. However, the regular SPR can undergo buckling when it pierces a high-strength steel sheet, warranting the design of a helical SPR. In this study, the joining and forging processes using the helical SPR were simulated using the commercial FEM code, DEFORM-3D. High-tensile-strength steel sheets of different strengths were joined with aluminum alloy sheets using the designed helical SPR. The simulation results were found to agree with the experimental results, validating the optimal design of a helical SPR that can pierce high-strength steel sheets.

  • This paper presents the thermo-elastic analysis for searching the behavior of carbon/carbon brake system during the braking period and the 3-D stress analysis to find the shape of the brake disk which is safe to the failure. The mechanical properties of the carbon/carbon brake disk were measured for both in-plane and out of plane directions. The mechanical properties were used as the input of the thermo-elastic analysis and 3-dimensional stress analysis for the brake disk. The gap between rotor clip and clip retainer is an important parameter in the loading transfer mechanism of the rotor disk. The change of gap was considered both the mechanical deformation and thermal deformation. Because the rotor clip and clip retainers were not contacted, they were excluded from the analysis model. Rotor disk was modeled by using the cyclic symmetry condition. The contact problems between rotor clip and key drum as well as between rotor disk and rotor were considered. From the results of the 3-D stress analysis, the stress concentration at the key hole of the brake disk was confirmed. The stress distributions were studied thor the variation of the rotation angle of the contact surface and the radius of curvature at the key hole part.

A Study on Structural Safety of CFRP Plate with Notch Hole at Center Part under Torsion (비틀림을 받는 중앙부에 노치홀을 가진 CFRP 판의 구조 안전성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the analysis of plate under torsion was carried out according to stacking angle at the unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced plastic(UD CFRP) among composite materials. In case of UD CFRP, the material property due to stacking angle becomes different. Also, the stacking angles were designated to 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90° at the study models. The notch hole was applied at the center part by supposing that rivet or hole was used. The analysis method was used by applying the experimental method at ISO 15310. Two jigs were fixed at the lower part and two jigs were descending at the upper part. As seen by the analysis result values at this study, the shear stress happening at the fracture part was seen with the lowest value in case of the stacking angle of 45°. It is known that the case of the stacking angle of 45°has the structural safety and durability higher than those of the other stacking angles when the torsion applies. It is thought that this result can be applied to the data of basis which can be devoted to the durability when the torsion is applied at CFRP plate.

  • A PDP(Plasma Display Panel) Frame is critical part of PDP and also produces couple hundred thousand every month. In the process of mass production, product inspection is very important process. Also to increase the reliance, inspection each part and every final product is asked quite often. Purpose of this paper is to use computer vision system to inspect the PDP parts which is Automated visual process inspection. This paper contains the system design for inspecting defects of hole, tab, stud, rivet of PDP Frame. The system also can inspect various kinds of PDP frames. Quick and accurate 100% inspection of all shapes can improve the manufacturing productivity. Inspection results can be stored in a database and analyzed to find the cause of defects. After applying the system to the industry, the result shows the possibility of fast and accuracy of the inspection.
