  • In the past, hospitals were planned with a minimum of public space for the sole purpose of treatment. On the other hand, modern hospitals have more public space as the importance of the healing environment increases and are planned taking into consideration the patients, guardians, and medical staff. In addition, the lobby shape is developed from a HALL type and planned as a STREET type or CONCOURSE type, increasing the public area. Unlike past hospitals, which were used as reception, waiting, and procedure spaces, modern hospitals are used as commercial, hobby, and cultural space. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the healing environment of the hospital lobby based on the shape of the plane surface by deducting the elements of general hospitals' healing environment from preceding studies as a framework. The hospital lobby is an important place where many actions occur. Therefore, 3 types of cases were evaluated based on the plane form. As a result of the study, the STREET type showed a better healing environment than the HALL type, but the accessibility, roof garden, and resting place showed similar results. Because the case was based on a large general hospital, which had sufficient planned space, the factor has little to do with the style of the lobby. Among the STREET types, the linear atrium showed a better result in terms of the sense of space and inflow effect of natural lighting than the four-sided atrium because the linear atrium has large open volume ratio. When the lobby plane is the HALL type, a cross section of the courtyard had a large open volume ratio. Therefore, the shape of the cross section is as important as the plane form of the lobby.

  • The planning of large department store is differ from designing other spaces because it holds items to sell. To make effective selling area, those items are to be showed enough to attract potential customers. In well planned space, customers would enjoy shopping convenientiy and comfortably. There are some requirements to make those kind of space. First, the design must consider customers needs. Second. the design must show items own values effectively. And third is identity of the store. At this point entrance or lobby area would possibly take major role to imprint identity and store concept. The purpose of study is to make well planned lobby area in order to lead customers traffic patterns to effective selling spaces. The method of this study is establishing hypothesis about interior and exterior aspects which effect to traffic patterns. And build condition that helps testing the hypothesis. Through the processes mentioned above, we would possibly reach the result like, First, It is important to reserve enough lobby space to prevent oversizing of selling space and advise effective traffic patterns. • The design of space, which focuses on human senses and perception, has become more prominent. It can be understood as the space needed for a field of experience. Phenomenological attitude focuses on the relations between human in the context of their environment. The experiences generated were used as a method of design. The method guides a formation of active space through phenomenological experience in interior space as well as architecture. To stimulate a phenomenological sensitive experience, the parameters for certain experiences were connected to the five senses, finally creating a concrete space. Water, light, air, vapor, and earth as architectural media are connected to the five senses and lead to intermediation from abstract to actual. In particular, water is deeply rooted in peoples subconsciousness and stimulates our instincts. Using water by effectively combining its symbols and physical characteristics will be a method to reinforce the experience with a given space. This study will examine the need for space experience and characteristics of water as an essential elements for perception experience and present possible experimental design.

  • Avoiding the unified productivity that was caused by the mechanical and technical development due to Industrial Revolution in the past, modern design is incessantly evolving in search of new motive, namely, diversity. Further, we live in the age when the propensity that serves public interest and purpose and sometimes shows quite individual character should be considered. As a result, the comprehensive and harmonious trend of emotional design is being highlighted more remarkably. Involving the social background that further respects human dignity, this is closely related to diverse issues such as human right which should be guaranteed and pursued for individual. While the tradition and innovation caused by the encounter of machine and art had confrontation and conflict in the past, the direction has changed to incessant evolution and interaction where paradigm of technical progress and development is newly composed and changed in modern times. The meaning of service in medical area is expanding and developing from the simple treatment to the more comprehensive healing. Medical space will evolve to the healing space that attaches importance to emotional aspect of human dimension which further understands and respects human being in the future.

However, the lower floors of a building are functionally easy to transfer but actually functions as an enterance. Although at takes a large investment by the owner or enterprise, mainly the tenants and neighbors are in a broad sense the actual users. In this point of view, the lobby of an office bulidling which is the connection between the exterior as a public space and the interior as a private area, does not only have the function of an enterance but also has to be an image of the enterprise or the building itself. • The purpose of this study was to analyze the design trend of the vertical garden design in the indoor space through the examples of green wall in the lobby space. For the analysis, this study looks into the 'Guide for the Building Greening System' to understand the technical consideration for the green wall. After that, the key design elements was drawn from existing green walls through the literature review and field survey and field-survey. The study picked six green walls which was completed after 2000 in the lobby space in Seoul. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the design factors mainly depend on the plant selection, which leads to the outlook and texture of the vertical walls. The texture is expressed by the two-dimensional or three-dimensional planting methods which is related to the selection of plant species. Second, the vertical walls in the lobby area should be planned for the function of space which could be transition, human traffic, mood and attraction. Third, the vertical wall should be integrated with the surroundings in order to reinforces the dynamic or static space experience.

The method of traditional expressions divided into the method of prototype reappearance, prototype transformation, reinterpretation, and abstract. The target of analysis has been 27 hotels designed since 1970s. and described as expressed traditionality in architecture-technical journals and books in the inside and outside of the country. considering these results, it seems that the traditional expressions using more various elements and more various element and methods have to used in domestic hotels.
