Numerical Analysis on the Stress Behaviours Due to Geometry Effects of the Membrane Corrugation (멤브레인의 주름 형상이 응력거동에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치적 해석)

  • This paper presents the numerical results of six corrugation models which compute the stress behaviours and stress levels of the membrane structure under the hydrostatic pressure of cryogenic liquids and thermal loadings using a non -linear finite element analysis program. A three-dimensional analysis of various corrugation geometries was performed on the maximum mean normal stress distributions along the upper surface of the membrane sheet. Comparisons of the FEM results for various geometry models of the corrugation are presented, which shows that the corrugated configuration of the ring knot model can be effectively performed for the combined forces such as the hydrostatic pressure and thermal loading in comparison with the Technigaz type corrugation which has small comer and apex curvatures. The FEM results show that the ring knot corrugation can be used for the deepest depth, 180m of the LNG storage tank in comparison with other corrugation models.

  • Three-dimensional natural convective heat transfer in a vertical channel with a protruding single module was investigated experimentally. The particular interest was in the removal of thermal energy from the module by convective heat transfer. Hence radiative and conductive heat losses were estimated by using thermocouples and heat flux sensor respectively. The flow fields in the channel were visualized by means of a smoke-method. Also, local temperatures were measured by thermocouples inside the channel, along the vertical wall and module surface. It is found that convective heat transfer was promoted at the lower comer of the module and was decreased at the upper comer due to a recirculation zone. A general correlation of the critical channel ratios was found as a function of Rayleigh number. For the range of $8.28{\times}10^3<Ra^*_c<3.48{\times}10^6$, a useful correlation for the mean Nusselt number was proposed as a function of modified channel Rayleigh number.

Preparation and Characterization of Cellulose Acetate/Poly Ethylene Glycol Blend Having High Melt Processibility (우수한 용융특성을 갖는 Cellulose acetate/Poly ethylene glycol 조성물의 제조 및 특성 해석)

  • Purpose: Cellulose acetate (CA) was blended with polyethyleneglycol (PEG) having different molecular weight at various mixing conditions to enhance melt-processibility of CA, which might prevent the harmful effect resulted from the introduction of phthalic plasticizer. Methods: To establish optimal plasticizing conditions, CA/PEG blends were examined under various plasticizing conditions: PEG concentration, molecular weight of PEG, and plasticzing temperature. Mechanical properties of the CA/PEG blends, as well as migration and exudation of the PEG, were performed in order to evaluate the efficiency of plasticization. Results: Compared to industrial CA resin plasticized by diethyl phthalate, CA/PEG blends exhibited similar thermal plasticization. It was established that the optimum condition was to blend 30~40 phr PEG with molecular weight 400 at $175{\sim}180^{\circ}C$. CA/PEG blend showed superior glassness, PEG stability, and mechanical properties. Conclusions: CA/PEG blends would be a eco-friendly glasses frame to substitute traditional CA glasses frame prepared phthalate plasticizers.

  • LED는 기존의 발광원에 비해 훨씬 높은 파워와 효율성으로 인해 최근 들어 각종 조명이나 교통신호 등에서 사용이 급증하고 있다. LED 재료를 위해 지금까지 여러가지가 연구되어 왔는데, 갈륨 질화물 (Gallium Nitride, GaN)에 기반한 시스템이 최근들어 가장 큰 관심을 받고 있다. GaN 방식은 열적으로 매우 안정성이 있고, 1.9 ~ 6.2 eV 범위의 넓은 밴드의 Gap, 그리고 인듐이나 알루미늄과 결합하여 청, 녹, 백색등의 다양한 빛을 발생할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 예를 들어 청색 LED는 광학 방식의 기록매체에, 백색 LED는 기존의 조명램프의 대체용으로 활용이 가능하다. 이러한 장점 덕분에 GaN기반 LED 시장은 1994년에 최초로 상용화 된 이래 최근 급격한 성장을 보여 왔다. 그러나 GaN은 다른 III~V 타입의 반도체 재료와는 달리 재료가 성장하기 위해 사파이어와 같은 별도의 기판을 필요로 하는 문제가 있다. 이것은 결국 전위발생과 같은 격자의 부조화 같은 문제를 야기하여 결국 LED의 성능을 떨어뜨리는 요인이 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 HVPE(Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy) 방법이 개발되었는데, 이 방법은 시간당 100 미크론의 매우 빠른 성장속도로 높은 두께의 레이어를 만드는 장점이 있다. 이렇게 성장된 GaN 레이어는 베이스 기판에서 쉽게 분리되어 활용이 가능하다. 그러나 HVPE 기술은 성장 공정에서 두께를 균일하게 만들도록 제어하는 것이 매우 어렵다는 문제가 있다. 따라서 HVPE 방식에서는 이러한 조건을 만족시키기 위해 반응현상에 대한 물리적 해석을 토대로 공정조건을 정밀하게 설계해야 한다. 이를 위해 최근에 실험 또는 시뮬레이션을 활용하여 이러한 공정조건을 향상시키기 위한 여러 연구가 진행되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구의 일환으로 반응로에 투입되는 여러 기체의 유량과 존별 주변온도 조건을 입력변수로 하고, 이들이 GaN 성장에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. HVPE 시스템에서 가장 이상적인 목표는 반응기체가 층류유동을 유지하면서 대부분의 반응이 기판위에서 이뤄지며, 기판위에서 성장되는 재료의 두께가 균일하게 되는 것이다. 입력변수들이 이러한 결과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 분석하기 위해 전산유체역학(CFD, Computational Fluid Dynamics)을 수행하는 상용코드 FLUENT를 사용하였다. 보다 실제에 가까운 해석을 위해서는 기체간의 화학반응을 포함해야 하나, 해석의 편의와 효율을 위해 본 연구에서는 열 및 유동해석만을 수행하였다. 한편 실제 반응로의 우수성은 성장속도와 두께분포의 균일도를 통해 평가된다. CFD 해석을 통해 이들을 분석하기 위해 기존에 수행한 실험조건을 해석하고 해석결과의 유동패턴/압력분포를 실험결과의 성장속도/두께분포와 비교하고, 이중에서 관련성이 높은 해석결과변수를 우수성 평가에 활용하였다. 기존의 실험결과를 토대로 이러한 중요 결과변수와 함께 이들에 대한 목표값이 도출되고 나면, 입력 공정조건 - 사용기체의 유량과 주변온도 조건 - 에 대해 실험계획(DOE,Design of Experiment)을 수립하고 목표성능을 구현하기 위한 최적설계를 수행할 수 있다. 일반적으로 CFD를 통해 최적의 설계나 공정조건을 탐색하는 작업은 1회의 CFD 계산시간이 매우 오래 소요되기 때문에 쉽지 않다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 CFD와 DOE의 적절한 조합을 통해 적은 수의 해석을 가지고도 원하는 결과를 효율적으로 얻는 것이 가능함을 입증하고자 한다. 본 발표에서는 아직 이러한 연구가 완성되지 않은 시점에서 제반 연구개요를 소개하고 현 시점까지의 연구 결과 및 향후 계획을 소개하고자 한다.

  • Solutions to water pollution, global warming, and climate change have been currently discussed. Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) using a difference in salt concentration between two fluids is proposed to meet the demand for clean water and produce eco-friendly energy. Although PRO has been researched continuously, it has not been commercialized yet due to limitations such as lack of technology and the high price of membranes. Meanwhile, the membrane is one of the most significant parts of the PRO engine and salinity gradient power (SGP) technology. Research continues to technologically develop graphene oxide membranes and nanocomposite membranes used in salinity gradient power generation. Studies on efficient membranes, solvents, and solutes are active to enable high energy efficiency of the osmotic heat engine even at low temperatures of waste. Studies have been conducted on reducing internal concentration polarization and increasing power density by using membranes with balanced permeability and selectivity. In this review, dealing with these studies, we discuss the types of PRO membranes, theoretical modeling of technologies through efficient membranes, and other technologies to develop the process efficiency.

The Analysis and Field Measurement of Longitudinal Track Forces for Long Railroad Bridges (교량상 궤도축력의 해석 및 실측결과 비교)

  • The design of railroad bridges differs from road bridges because of the interface between track structure and bridge structure. The track generally consists of Continuous Welded Rail(CWR) which is fixed by fasteners to the sleepers embedded in the ballast. The ballast provides the interface between the track structure and the bridge structure. Large longitudinal forces can develop from the temperature variation in rail and bridge structure. These longitudinal forces are specially important for long bridges because the bridge layout for span length, pier dimensions and arrangement and type of bearings can be governed by these forces. This report provides a comparison of longitudinal track forces determined by analysis and actual measured track forces. In recent practice the longitudinal track force for European railways is analyzed using a finite element analysis method. This method is very time-consuming and requires the detail design of the bridge to be complete. Redesign is required if the design criteria for longitudinal track forces are not satisfied. There is a need to develop a simple analysis method considering the large number of bridge structures and a relatively short design time on the Korean High Speed Rail Project. The analysis results presented herein, based on a simplified analysis, show good agreement with those obtained by finite element analysis, as well as with those measured on an actual track. The proposed analysis method is particularly useful for the preliminary design of bridge structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the cause and countermeasure for track problems in the high speed railways due to the irregularly increasing dynamic wheel loads running over the speed range of 300 km/h. It has long been recognised that the track problems encountered on high speed railways are associated mainly with vertical dynamic loads which are related to the unsprung mass of vehicles and track irregularities. In addition to these parameters for the estimation of the dynamic wheel load variation, however, the dynamic characteristics of track structures are discussed in this paper with reference to mathematical modelling of the tracks and vehicle. From the results of the more detailed analyses, the effects of track stiffness and damping characteristics are considered to be significant for reducing the dynamic wheel loads. To make this point clear and appraise the overall performance of the track components, the theoretical analysis on the dynamic behavior of the tracks and wheel set impact tests on several track structures are performed. The experimental results from different track components are compared with each other. The track stiffness and damping characteristics are also presented quantatively.

Ventilation Effect of the Greenhouse with Folding Panel Type Windows (패널굴절방식 환기창 온실의 환기효과)

  • In this study, new development of natural ventilation window was accomplished to control environment of greenhouse with no use of farced ventilation during hot season. The ventilation effect of developed ventilation window was investigated in experimental greenhouse which was designed using side wall panel and folding type panel fur natural ventilation. Folding panel type ventilation window was designed to open upper part of the side wall and top of the roof using two hinges which are located bottom of the side wall and the roof panel to grab one side of each panels and guide the other side along with the guidance rail. Developed ventilation window has top ventilation part with maximum moving distance X=ι (1-cos$\theta$)=848.5 mm and side ventilation part with maximum moving distance Y=ι/2 $\times$sin$\theta$=1,184.4 mm at 45$^{\circ}$ of theoretical opening angle. It took 4.5 minutes to open roof vent fully and temperature at 1.2 and 0.8 m height decreased after 1 minute from starting opening and became equilibrium state maintaining 3-4$^{\circ}C$ difference after 2 minutes from complete opening. Air exchange rate was 15.2~39.3 h$^{-1}$ which was more than 10~15 h$^{-1}$ of continuous type and Venlo type greenhouse. The descent effect of temperature by ventilation windows was two times higher than Venlo type greenhouse.

Preparation of Composite Membranes Via PVA/PAM Solution Coating onto Hydrophilized PVDF Hollow Fiber Membrane and Their Pervaporation Separation of Water-ethanol Mixture (PVDF 중공사막의 표면친수화 후 PVA/PAM 용액의 코팅을 통한 복합막제조와 이의 물-에탄올계의 투과증발 분리)

  • Poly vinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes were hydrophilized using polyethylenimine (PEI) and p-xylylene dichloride (XDC), and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly (acrylic acid -co- maleic acid) (PAM) mixed solutions by varying the concentration of PAM were coated onto PVDF membrane surface. The surface coating was verified by the observation of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the permselective characteristcs of the resulting composite membranes were tested for 90 wt% aqueous ethanol solution by the pervaporation technique. The effects of the corsslinking agent concentraion, the temperature of feed solution, and the reaction temperature on the flux and separation factors were measured. Typically, the flux, $1,480g/m^2hr$ at the reaction temperature $100^{\circ}C$, PAM 3 wt%, feed temperature $70^{\circ}C$ was obtained, on the other hand, for the separation factor, ${\alpha}_{W/E}=82$ at the conditions of the reaction temperature $100^{\circ}C$, PAM 15 wt% and feed temperature $25^{\circ}C$ was shown.

Characterization of Crosslinked Poly(vinyl alcohol) Membranes for the Preparation of Composite Membranes and Its Application to Pervaporation Separation (복합막 제조를 위한 가교된 폴리비닐알코올 막의 특성 평가와 이를 이용한 투과증발 분리)

  • In the crosslining reaction of poly(vinyl alcohoJ)(PVA) with sulfur-succinic acid which had been established in our previous work, reaction temperature, 15$0^{\circ}C$, was so high to collapse the pore struc¬tures in support membrane for the preparation of composite membrane. Therefore, the efforts have been focused on lowering of the reaction temperature to 100$^{\circ}$C by using a catalysis, HC!. The newly established crosslinking reaction was characterized through the analysis of the chemical and thermal properties. From these results, the optimum conditions for the membrane preparation couId be drawn as followings : (i) reac¬tion temperature, 100 $^{\circ}C$,(ii) reaction time, 90 min, (iii) the concentration of the catalysis (HCD, 1.5%. Com¬posite membranes were fabricated by coating a casting solution containing PYA, sulfur-succinic acid and HCl on a support membrane followed by crosslinking it at 10$0^{\circ}C$. The resulting membranes were applied to the pervaporation separation of methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE)/methanol (MeOH) mixtures at 30, 40, and 5O$^{\circ}C$. The flux of 5.09 g/$m^2$hr at 5O$^{\circ}C$ and the highest separation factor of 1622 were obtained, respectively.
