Using only laser range finder to detect the obstacles in an environment that contains transparent obstacles can not guarantee autonomous mobile robot from collision problem. To solve this problem, a mobile robot using laser range finder must be used additional sensor device such as sonar sensor that can detect the transparent obstacle. In this paper, a method is addressed to deal with the problem to detect the transparent obstacles within environment only by using laser range finder for mobile robot. In case the recognized transparent obstacle, the proposed algorithm is to localize the transparent obstacle to extract and process the reflected noise. This algorithm ensures autonomous of mobile robot only using laser range finder. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the real mobile robot and real laser range finder experiments with three case studies.

This study evaluated the architectural density of urban district using airborne laser scanning(ALS) that is a method used in urban planning, water resources and disaster prevention with high interest recently. First, digital elevation model(DEM) and digital surface model(DSM) was constructed from Light detection and ranging(LiDAR). For getting the height of building, ZONALMEAN filter was used in DEM and ZONALMAJORITY filter was used in DSM. This study compared the floor from filtering with the floor from survey and got standard error, which is ${\pm}0.199$ floor. Also, through the overlay and statistical analysis of total-area layer and zone layer, we could present floor area ratio by zone. As a result of comparison with floor area ratio between airborne laser scanning data and survey data, the standard error of floor area ratio shows ${\pm}2.68%$. Therefore, we expect that airborne laser scanning data can be a very efficient source to decision makers who set up landuse plan in near future.

It is well recognized that residual stresses of the rails, generated from the manufacturing process including roller straightening and heat treatment, play an important role in determining fatigue and fracture properties of the rails. Thus, it has been a challenge to measure the residual stresses accurately. In this work, contour method was employed to evaluate the residual stresses existing in interior of the rails. The cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rail was cut at a very slow rate using electric discharge machining (EDM), after which a laser-based flexural measuring instrument enabled us to precisely measure the flection of the cross section. The measured data were converted into the residual stresses using the commercial finite element package, ABAQUS, through a user-defined element (UEL) subroutine, and the residual stresses of the new rails (50N, KR60, UIC60) with three different specifications were compared.

A Gigabit Ethernet upstream transmission over a WDM-PON employing remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been demonstrated. We have successfully demonstrated a WDM transmission of four Gigabit Ethernet channels with 100 GHz channel spacing over 30 km conventional single mode fiber. The measured f-factor was larger than 17.1 dB. We have also investigated the beating noise characteristics of a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser and showed the remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser suppresses the intensity noise of the incoherent light injected, which cause a 6.3 dB SNR improvement compared with that of the conventional spectrum-sliced light source.
We constructed travelling type Nd:YAG laser with a negative branch confocal unstable ring (NBCUR) resonator like a Newtonian telescope type using four flat mirror and two positive lenses. Annular output beam was obtained by using scraper mirror. This laser oscillator has 22 optical faces and optical alignment was done by equal inclination interferance method. We inserted a Faraday rotator of permanent magnet type designed in the laboratory for unidirectional operation. We obtained laser output energy of 80m.I with electrical input energy of 70 J. and we obtained that peak power of 0.5MW through Q-switching with BDN dye.
Purpose The aims of this study were to evaluate micro-tensile bond strength of composite resin bonded to dentin following high-speed rotary handpiece preparation or Er:YAG laser preparation with two different adhesive systems and to assess the influence of different Er:YAG laser energies on the micro-tensile bond strength. Materials and Methods In this study, 40 third morlars were used. Flat dentin specimans were obtained and randomly assigned to eight groups. Dentin surfaces were prepared with one of four cutting types: carbide bur, Er:YAG laser (2 W, 3 W and 4 W) and conditioned with two bonding systems, Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus (SM), Clearfil SE bond (SE) and composite resin-build ups were created. After storage for 24 hours, each specimen was serially sectioned perpendicular to the bonded surface to produce more than thirty slabs in each group. Micro-tensile bond strength test was performed at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. Micro-tensile bond strengths (${\mu}TBS$) were expressed as means$\pm$SD. Data were submitted to statistical analysis using two-way ANOVA, one-way ANOVA, Student-Newman-Keuls' multiple comparison test and t-test. Results and Conclusion 1. Regardless of bonding systems, the ${\mu}TBS$ according to cutting types were from highest to lowest : 3 W, 2 W, Bur, and 4 W. In addition, there was no significant difference between Bur and 4 W (p<0.001). 2. Regardless of cutting types, SM showed significantly higher ${\mu}TBS$ than SE (p<0.001). 3. Bonding to dentin conditioned with SM resulted in higher ${\mu}TBS$ for 3 W compared to Bur, 2 W, and 4 W. There was no significant difference between 2 W and Bur (p<0.001). 4. Bonding to dentin conditioned with SE resulted in higher ${\mu}TBS$ for 3 W compared to 2 W, 4 W, and Bur. Bur exhibited significant lower ${\mu}TBS$ than all other cutting types. There were no significant differences between 3 W, 2 W and between 4 W and Bur (p<0.001). 5. The ${\mu}TBS$ of laser cutting groups were shown in order from highest to lowest: 3 W, 2 W and 4 W in two bonding systems. There was no significant difference between 2 W and 3 W in SE (p<0.001). : The ${\mu}TBS$ of composite resin bonded dentin was significantly affected by interaction between the cutting type and bonding system. In the range of 2 W-3 W, cavity preparation of the Er:YAG laser seems to supply good adhesion of composite resin restoration no less than bur preparation. In particular, if you want to use the self-etching system, including Clearfil SE bond for the purpose of a simplification of the bonding procedures and prevention of adverse effects by excessive etching, an Er:YAG laser may offer better adhesion than a bur.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the surface morphology and measure shear bond strength of Er : YAG lased enamel. To determine the most effective energy density of laser for improving bonding strength of human enamel, 24 specimen were lased from 30mJ to 150mJ at 1Hz used focused, defocused beam. After irradiation, the lased specimen were observed scanning electron microscope. To determine the resin shear bond strength of Er : YAG lased enamel, the 90 specimen were divided into 3 groups. The Control group was etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 15seconds and rinsed. Group 1 was only laser irradiaton(60mJ, 10Hz), Group 2 was irradiated as Group 1 regimen, followed 37% phosphoric acid etching. The following results were obtained: 1. In both focused and defocused Er : YAG lased enamel surface are similar to acid-etched enamel more than 60mJ in SEM evaluation. 2. The more increased laser energy, the more observed fissuring surface. 3. The highest mean shear bond strength value was observed in control group with the statistical significance(p<0.05) between all the other groups and the shear bond strength in group 1 was the lowest with significant difference among the other groups.
We have constructed two extended-cavity diode lasers which are phase-locked with a 9.2 GHz frequency offset. We adopted a digital servo circuit for the phase-locking. The relative linewidth of the phase-locked lasers was less than 2 Hz. Using the measured beat spectrum, we found the carrier concentration to be about 93 %. We measured phase noise and relative frequency stability of the lasers. The Allan deviation at the gate time of 20 s was $2.7{\times}10^{-19}$.

The purpose of the present study was to examine some basic aspects of laser chemical vapor deposition that will be ultimately utilized for solid freeform fabrication of three dimensional objects. Specifically, deposition of silicon carbide (SiC) using tetramethylsilane (TMS) as precursor was studied for a rod grown by $CO_2$laser-assisted chemical vapor deposition. First, temperature distribution for substrate was analyzed to select proper substrate where temperature was high enough for SiC to be deposited. Then, calculations of chemical equilibrium and heat and mass flow with chemical reactions were performed to predict deposition rates, deposit profiles, and deposit components. Finally, several rods were experimentally grown with varying chamber pressure and compared with the theoretical results.
