Performance Evaluation of Analog-digital Beamforming for Uplink Multi-User Millimeter Wave Systems (다수 사용자를 지원하는 상향링크 밀리미터 파 시스템을 위한 아날로그-디지털 빔포밍의 성능 평가)

  • This paper considers hybrid beamforming for millimeter wave system in uplink transmission where multiple users send their data streams simultaneously. Hybrid beamforming has low-cost and low power consumption features compared to conventional digital beamforming schemes. We assume that each user uses one transmit antenna and sends one data stream, while the base station has multiple receive antennas and multiple radio frequency chains. Therefore, hybrid beamforming is performed only at the base station. We also assume that each user does not know instantaneous channel side information (CSI), while the base station is able to estimate the CSI from all users accurately. Under this channel assumption, the outage probability is not zero. We evaluate the outage probability of the considered hybrid beamforming as a performance metric through computer simulations. We show that the outage probability of hybrid beamforming approaches that of digital beamforming in some cases.

  • 본 논문에서는 IMT-2000 WCDMA 시스템의 기지국의 수신신호에 대한 WCDMA 역방향링크 디지털 빔포밍 적용구조를 제시하고, 이의 성능을 측정하기 위한 빔포밍 시뮬레이터를 구현하였다. 실제 WCDMA 시스템에 근거해 수신 신호를 모델링하고, 기본 신호 모델을 대상으로 빔포밍과 전력제어등의 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 또한 셀네의 각 사용자들의 이동을 정의한 사용자 이동 프로파일을 구성하여 적용함으로써 실제 이동통신이 이루어지는 환경과 유사한 시뮬레이션 환경을 설정하게 되었고, 이를 통하여 빔포밍을 적용한 시스템에 대한 성능 분석의 신뢰도를 향상시켰다

  • 실시간으로 초고속 이동통신 서비스를 제공하기 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에서는 초광대역(ultra wideband) 시스템 구축에 용이한 3-300GHz 밀리미터파 대역의 도입을 고려하고 있다. 그러나 밀리미터파 대역 신호는 상용 이동통신에서 사용되는 3GHz 이하의 대역에 비하여 전파특성이 열악하다. 이러한 밀리미터파 대역의 효과적인 활용을 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에는 아날로그/디지털 빔포밍 기술을 결합한 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 고려하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 적용한 다중 안테나 상향링크 시스템에서 제로-포싱 (zero-forcing) 구조의 송수신기 설계 기법을 소개한다.

Improvement for Hearing Aids System Using Adaptive Beam-forming Algorithm (적응 빔포밍 기법을 적용한 보청기 시스템의 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • The adaptive beam-forming is promising approach for noise reduction in hearing aids. This approach has come in the focus of interest only recently, because of the availability of new and powerful digital signal processors. The adaptation U using usually a Least Mean Squares algorithm, updates the weight vector. In this Paper, we propose a fast wavelet based adaptive algorithm using variable step size algorithm which varies adaptive constant by the change of signal environment. We compared the performance of the proposed algorithm with the known adaptive algorithm using computer simulation of multi channel adaptive bemformer in hearing aids. As the result the proposed algorithm is suitable for adaptive signal processing area using hearing aids and has advantages reducing computational complexity. And we show the beam-forming system using proposed algorithm converges stably in a sudden change of system environment.

  • Millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication systems provide high data rates owing to the large bandwidths available at mm-wave frequencies. Recently, analogue and digital combined beamforming, namely "hybrid beamforming" has drawn attentions owing to its ability to realize the required link margins in mm-wave systems. Taking into account the radio frequency (RF) hardware limitations, such as the analogue phase shifter gain constraint and the low resolution of the phase controller, we introduce an uplink hybrid beamforming system that includes discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based "fixed" analogue beamforming. We adopt a zero-forcing (ZF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) equalizer to eliminate the uplink inter-user interferences. Moreover, to improve the sum-rate performances, we propose a transmit beam selection algorithm which makes the uplink effective channels, i.e., the beamformed channels, become near orthogonal. The effectiveness of the proposed beam selection algorithm was verified through numerical simulations.

  • Digital RDA system is retransmit into the opposite direction of the incident signals. Digital RDA system have a disadventage that this system do not signal classification in multipath environment. because multipath signal is shown as vector sum of multipath signal, digital RDA system required complex signal process for multipath signal classification. In this paper, to solve these problem we propose hybrid digital RDA system which combination of the MUSIC algorithm and the digital RDA system. Proposed system has two modes. First mode is digital RDA mode. Secornd mode is digital beamforming mode. Digital RDA mode is used in situations where the less the impact of multipath. Digital beamforming mode is applied to multipath effects is greater. In secornd mode, we find optimal path using MUSIC algorithm. After than the proposed system uses only the optimal path. Through the proposed system in a multipath environment with digital RDA can be used to supplement a disadvantage.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a powerful and well established microwave remote sensing technique which enables high resolution measurements of the Earth surface independent of weather conditions and sunlight illumination. In this study, this paper first summarizes the basic SAR theory and the history of the SAR satellites. The second part of this paper gives an overview of new technologies for future SAR systems. New innovative concepts and technologies for SAR satellites will be digital beamforming, High Resolution Wide Swath (HRWS), Waveform Encoding, Terrain Observation by Progressive Scan (TOPS), and so on. These technologies will play an important role for future spaceborne SAR satellites.

  • Feedback burden of a full-digital energy beamforming, which is known as the optimal precoding scheme for radio frequency (RF) energy transfer, is huge because it uses a vector quantization for a channel feedback. To reduce the feedback burden, we consider a beam steering based wireless energy transfer, which uses a scalar quantization. Researches related to the beam steering based wireless energy transfer have been studied in special channel model with an assumption of full channel state information at the transmitter. In this paper, we analyze the beam steering scheme compared with the full-digital energy beamforming for practical channel models with channel estimation errors. According to characteristics of the millimeter wave channel, the number of antennas of the base station and the user, the distance between them, and channel estimation errors, we simulate the performance of the beam steering scheme and analyze reasons why.

Experimental Considration of Multi-order Sampling for Digital Beamforming (디지털 빔포밍을 위한 다차 샘플링 방법의 실험적 고찰)

  • In this paper, several bandwidth sampling methods were compared using experimental result in which contains "multi-order sampling", which was proposed for envelope detections in RF ultrasonic signals. A "Quadrature sampling method" and "Second-order sampling method" were compared with it. The resultant image of second-order sampling method introduces too much error as compared with the result of quadrature sampling. But Multi-order sampling method, specialy 5-th sampling method showed quite good envelope detection property. This means that more economical and quite good performance digital beamforming system can be built by adopting this multi-order sampling method.s multi-order sampling method.

Channel Interference Analysis of Wideband WLAN Based IEEE802.11n for 3rd Generation Digital Signage (3세대 디지털 사이니지를 위한 IEEE802.11n 광대역 무선랜에 대한 채널 간섭 분석)

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the effects of co-channel, adjacent-channel, and the human shield(Body Blockage) for wideband WLAN based on the IEEE802.11n 40MHz channel bandwidth required for high speed digital signage service. Simulation results show that wideband WLAN can be operated with 78 interferers over 63m distance in co- channel, 80 interferer over 61m distance in adjacent channel. By applying the mitigation method for reducing the interference, we have confirmed that protection distance is improved to 51m using beamforming, and 40m using cognitive radio in co-channel interference. Also body blockage interference is reduced using adaptive channel bandwidth, C/I ratio, beamforming, power control mitigation methodology.
