  • This study is to analyze and evaluate copyright protection environment in digital reproduction and transmission, find out problems involved. and suggest recommendations for improvement. Data was collected 50 libraries to which digital reproduction and transmission is permitted under the Copyright Act were surveyed to examine the present states of digitalization and the systems employed. Also, library users, sampled from 5 libraries carrying out all the 6 technical measures obliged by the Copyright Act, were surveyed to examine their use of digital materials and perception on the copyright. After reviewing descriptive statistics, frequency and cross-tabulation analysis were made. The results of the analysis are most of the libraries. except for the industry university libraries, have implemented digital library systems, but the introduction rate of both digital reproduction system and transmission system are high (68.0% and 84.0%. respectively), while that of copyright protection system was low (26.0%). 84.0% of the libraries surveyed digitalize the full text, but the Libraries have digital collection less than 5,000 items, and only 33.3% of them digitalize materials with securing the copyrights. Regulations on copyright protections are not obliged properly. and it appeared that not only users' perception and perception of copyright as well as their use of electronic books are relatively low.

  • The purpose of this study is to portray the current condition of digital reading rooms in public libraries in specific terms of information resource constituencies. With the growth in numbers of public libraries in Korea, emphasis was also put on digital information services using digital reading rooms in public libraries. However, it is also recognized that these digital reading rooms are merely traditional reading rooms with equipment. In this regard, the objective for the study was to identify and describe the types of electronic information resources in order to determine the rationale for the development of digital information resource management in public libraries. The focus was especially put on investigating the quality and the degree of perceived importance of electronic resources. Data for this case study was collected from four relatively big public libraries in three cities. The investigation was conducted by the document reviews and surveys and interviews with librarians and patrons. The study found that digital resource management should be put on a new stage, especially in terms of education and reliable information for the regional community. The study also added some suggestions for the future development and refinement of electronic resource management in public libraries.

  • As Information Technology has developed, digital library has an opportunity to change the paradigm of role of library to adjust in digital environment. Digital library has promote information services with digitization of materials. In library fare use is allowed to the public for information services. However, digital copy and transmission is simple in digital environment, to balance between owner and user is not easy but important things. Therefor, current copyright act is revised to adjust these environment but the act restrict the users'accessing digital library through interned, not complied with the motive of revision. Moreover, proposed act which is proposed to facilitate digital library services also extremely limits information services. In this monograph, I will review the copyright act related library and seek for the improved means.

  • In this study, we tried to provide basic materials necessary for introduction of smart libraries by analyzing present conditions of its operation based on the actual conditions of digital materials. For this study, a survey of actual use of digital materials is conducted for digital material rooms of public libraries in nationwide and 213 persons in charge of digital materials. As a result of this study, the followings are found: first, 80.8% of those public libraries responding to the survey operate digital material rooms and average 1.75 person is in charge of managing digital materials and open type Wi-Fis are installed in those public libraties but only 11.3% of those libraries provide 5G services; second, it is found that the digital data which are owned by those public libraries most are video contents (63.8%), e-books (53.5%) and audio books (53.5%) in order. In addition average number of types of audio books 781, video contents 4,985, nonbook contents except for video 3,616 and other digital data 626. This study is a basic research for introduction of smart library and it is necessary to conduct another study of a plan for future revitalization of digital materials and librarians' awareness on introduction of smart library.

  • This study intends to analyze the integrated search methods in digital libraries environment. To categorize various integration methods, I investigated the developmental properties and integration types of digital libraries from a users point of view. And then, I reviewed the current best practices of library portal which are JISC Information Environment, NSDL OCKHAM and Korea Knowledge Portal Initiatives. Nextly, I derived the two methods of Integrated search mechanisms such as aggregated search and distributed search that is useful in the digital libraries environment.
