A Design and Implementation of Circuit for Efficient Power LED Dimming Control (효율적인 고출력 LED 디밍 제어를 위한 회로 설계 및 구현)

  • The conventional dimming control methods of LED (Light-emitting dioades) include Analog, PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), and FM (Frequency Modulation) Control. Analog dimming is controlled by adjusting forward current of Power LED. Although Analog dimming is possible to control linearly the brightness levels on a whole range (0%~100%), it comes into existence a variation of wavelength by changing the Power LED's forward current. PWM dimming has achieved by varying in duty of full current flowing to the Power LED. Generally, PWM dimming doesn't make variation of wavelength but have difficulty with adjusting the linear brightness level between 0% and 10%. FM dimming method is on the same wavelength as PWM dimming, however, it has problem of flickering at low level of dimming. This paper propose a efficient dimming control method of Power LED in order to overcome the disadvantages of the above mentioned methods. We apply to Analog method in low level of dimming control and use PWM method in dimming range from 10% to 100%. For the experiment, we design and implement a circuit and test the proposed method. Consequently, we can control the linear brightness of Power LED across the whole range and get the constant wave at different dimming level. The experimental results show the benefits of the proposed method.

  • 본 논문에서는 LCD TV의 전력 소비를 절감하기 위해 백라이트 유닛을 다분할하여 디밍 제어를 수행하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 최근 LED 백라이트 유닛을 채용한 대형 LCD TV가 출시됨에 따라서, 백라이트 유닛의 디밍 제어를 통해 LCD TV에서 전체 전력 소비를 절감하고자 하는 기술이 활발히 연구되어 왔다. 기존의 방식은 전체 화면을 MxN개의 분할로 나누어, 각 분할 영역마다 화면의 최대 밝기 정보를 추출하여 디밍 제어를 수행했지만, 본 논문에서는 각 분할영역마다 인접한 영역으로부터 간섭받는 빛의 양을 반영하여, 실제 디밍 제어 값을 다시 계산함으로써, 추가적인 전력 절감 효과를 얻을 수 있는 방식을 제안하고 성능 평가를 하였다.

  • 본 논문은 LED 조명에 ICT 기술을 적용하여 인간 친화적이고 전력 소비를 절감하는 디밍 제어 시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템은 조도 센서를 활용하여 밝기에 따른 LED 디밍 제어와 온도 센서 값에 따른 화재 위험 감지 기능 그리고 블루투스 통신을 사용하여 사용자의 스마트폰으로 화재 위험 정보를 전송하고 각종 센서의 통계치 그래프를 제공한다. 본 논문은 스마트폰 앱으로 실제 환경과 같은 구조물을 구현하고 앱 상에서 LED 조명을 직접 제어할 수 있도록 하며, 앱 상에서 제어된 디밍은 실제 환경의 조명에서도 동시에 적용되도록 구현한다.

Two-Dimensional Dimming Algorithm using Light Spread Function (빛 확산 함수를 이용한 이차원 디밍 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, in order to reduce the power consumption of LCD TV, we present a two-dimensional dimming algorithm for LED BLU(Backlight Unit) using light spread function and a pragmatic implementation method. In conventional two dimensional dimming algorithms, LED BLU is divided into MxN blocks and proper backlight luminance for each block is computed according to input image and used for dimming control. But, LED light of each block is diffused and affects the neighboring blocks so that luminance of each block becomes larger than that of intent. In the proposed algorithm, dimming control values are reduced by the amount of quantity affected by the neighboring blocks using light spread function, resulting in additional reduction of power consumption.

  • In this paper. we introduce and investigate new architectures and comprehensive design methodologies of intelligent dimming converter and evaluate the proposed model and the system through a series of numeric experiments. The intelligent dimming converter is developed by using the regression polynomial fuzzy model. In this paper, we put emphasis on the design of electronic ballast based on intelligent dimming converter and the energy saving according to the day-light and the user setting by applying the intelligent model to a fluorescent lamp. We show the superiority of the proposed intelligent dimming converter through the evaluation of performance with conventional electronic ballast by applying the intelligent model to real systems.

  • In this paper, we proposed a home network integrated dimmer switch using Z-wave Mesh Network. The dimmer switch come with wired and wireless network-based intelligent lighting switch that can be installed in a apartments with home network technologies. This switch is ease to install and operate. Furthermore, it provide power saving through efficient control of light using motion detect sensor and light intensity sensor. In order to evaluate the performance of our developed home network integrated dimmer switch, we performed a load performance test and from our result, it showed excellent performance in terms of lighting control and communication speed.

  • 본 논문에는 Flyback컨버터의 PWM방식과 조명용 LED 구동장치의 디밍에 의한 조명제어를 제안한다. 제안된 LED 구동회로는 Flyback 컨버터를 이용하여 교류 입력 전원을 직류 출력전원으로 변환되는 과정을 이해한다. 포터커플러의 역할과 그 Feedback원리 그리고 PWM방식으로 IC를 직접 제어하여 버스트 디밍을 구현하고 LED의 밝기 밝기 조절 및 불필요한 전력낭비를 예방하는데 목적을 두었다.

  • In this paper, we aim to investigate the generalization of ZRC codes by performing performance analysis on various coding rates and channel conditions of Zero Reduction Code (ZRC) for dimming control in VLC system. Simulation results show that the ZRC codes with relatively high coding rate achieve the enhanced BER performance as the RMS (Root Mean Square) delay spread value increases in the NLOS channelse. Therefore, it is expected that the designing of the dimming control technology using ZRC in the future visible light communication system will help to determine the coding rate according to the channel state through the analysis result in this study.

  • In this paper, a low power of safety oriented sidewalk block was implemented using dimming technology using LED and illuminance sensor to prevent glare by high - intensity light source and prevent night traffic accident. The dimming system of this paper used a light bulb color with less fatigue to prevent glare and consumed 6.10Wh power. Also, it is confirmed that the power saving is about 56.9% when compared with the existing system.

  • This paper presents field measurements on daylighting and electric lighting with dimming controlled systems for a small office in Seoul, Korea. And the main purpose of this study is to provide the evaluation data of lighting energy performance when a dimming system is installed. For the performance evaluation, the mock-up room(3.6x7.2x2.6[m]) was used for the actual test. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The correlation between daylight illuminance at a workplane(Ed) and the photosensor signal(Sd) was an important factor affecting the performance of daylight responsive dimming system, 2) The mock-up office space gained a sufficient workplace illuminance of 579[lux] with the dimming control system 3) About 53[%J of monthly lighting energy could be saved using the dimming control system.
