An Edge Extraction Method Using K-means Clustering In Image (영상에서 K-means 군집화를 이용한 윤곽선 검출 기법)

  • A method for edge detection using K-means clustering is proposed in this paper. The method is performed through there steps. Histogram equalizing is applied to the image for the uniformed intensity distribution. Pixels are clustered by K-means clustering technique. Then Sobel mask is applied to detect edges. Experiments showed that this method detected edges better than conventional method.

An Effective Method of Product Number Detection from Thick Plates (효과적인 후판의 제품번호 검출 방법)

  • In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for detecting the product number of each thick plate and extracting each character of the product number from a image which contains several thick plates. In general, a image of thick plates contains several steal plates. To obtain the product number from the image, we first need to separate each plate. To do so, we use the line edges of thick plates and a clustering algorithm. After separating each plate, background parts are eliminated from the image of each plate. Background parts of an individual thick plate image consist of the dark part of steel and the white part of paint which is used for printing the product number. We propose a two-tiered method where dark background parts are first eliminated and then white parts are eliminated. Finally, each character is extracted from the product number image using the characteristics of product number. The results of the experiments on the various steal plates images emphasize that the proposed algorithm detects each thick plate and extracts the product number from a image effectively.

Detection of Pavement Region with Structural Patterns through Adaptive Multi-Seed Region Growing (적응적 다중 시드 영역 확장법을 이용한 구조적 패턴의 보도 영역 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive pavement region detection method that is robust to changes of structural patterns in a natural scene. In order to segment out a pavement reliably, we propose two step approaches. We first detect the borderline of a pavement and separate out the candidate region of a pavement using VRays. The VRays are straight lines starting from a vanishing point. They split out the candidate region that includes the pavement in a radial shape. Once the candidate region is found, we next employ the adaptive multi-seed region growing(A-MSRG) method within the candidate region. The A-MSRG method segments out the pavement region very accurately by growing seed regions. The number of seed regions are to be determined adaptively depending on the encountered situation. We prove the effectiveness of our approach by comparing its performance against the performances of seed region growing(SRG) approach and multi-seed region growing(MSRG) approach in terms of the false detection rate.

  • This paper proposes a method of automatically predicting the vanishing point for the purpose of detecting the road region from natural images. The proposed method stably detects the vanishing point in the road environment by analyzing the dominant orientation of the image and predicting the vanishing point to be at the position where the feature components of the image are concentrated. For this purpose, in the first stage, the image is partitioned into sub-blocks, an edge sample is selected randomly from within the sub-block, and RANSAC is applied for line fitting in order to analyze the dominant orientation of each sub-block. Once the dominant orientation has been detected for all blocks, we proceed to the second stage and randomly select line samples and apply RANSAC to perform the fitting of the intersection point, then measure the cost of the intersection model arising from each line and we predict the vanishing point to be located at the average point, based on the intersection point model with the highest cost. Lastly, quantitative and qualitative analyses are performed to verify the performance in various situations and prove the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for detecting the vanishing point.

Improved face detection method at a distance with skin-color and variable edge-mask filtering (피부색과 가변 경계마스크 필터를 이용한 원거리 얼굴 검출 개선 방법)

  • Face detection at a distance faces is very challenging since images are often degraded by blurring and noise as well as low resolution. This paper proposes an improved face detection method with AdaBoost filtering and sequential testing stages with color and shape information. The conventional AdaBoost filter detects face regions but often generates false alarms. The face detection method is improved by adopting sequential testing stages in order to remove false alarms. The testing stages comprise skin-color test and variable edge-mask filtering. The skin-color filtering is composed of two steps, which involve rectangular window regions and individual pixels to generate binary face clusters. The size of the variable edge-mask is determined by the ellipse which is estimated from the face cluster. The validation of the horizontal and vertical ratio of the mask is also investigated. In the experiments, the efficacy of the proposed algorithm is proved by images captured by a CCTV and a smart-phone

Soft Detection using QR Decomposition for Coded MIMO System (부호화된 MIMO 시스템에서 QR 분해를 이용한 효율적인 연판정 검출)

  • Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) transmission is now considered as one of essential techniques enabling high rate data transmissions in wireless communication systems. In addition, severe channel impairments in wireless systems should be compensated by using highly efficient forward error correction (FEC) codes. Turbo codes or low density parity check (LDPC) codes, using iterative decoding with soft decision detection information (SDDI), are the most common examples. The excellent performance of these codes should be conditioned on accurate estimation of SDDI from the MIMO detection process. In this paper, we propose a soft MIMO detection scheme using QR decomposition of channel matrices as an efficient means to provide accurate SDDI to the iterative decoder. The proposed method employed a two sequential soft MIMO detection process in order to reduce computational complexity. Compared to the soft ZF method calculating the direct inverse of the channel matrix, the complexity of the proposed method can be further reduced as the number of antennas is increased, without any performance degradation.

  • 대화체 음성의 인식을 위해서는 음성 파형에 관한 음향학적인 연구뿐만 아니라 인식하려는 언어자체에 대한 언어학적인 연구를 필요로 한다. 본 논문에서는 숫자음의 언어학적인 요소를 고려하고, 포만트 주파수를 숫자음 검출과 숫자음 인식에 적용하는 방식을 제안한다. 시스템의 입력은 특정 질의에 대한 응답으로 대화체 문장이며, 끝점 추출 기술을 이용하여 고립단어로 분류한 후, 숫자음만을 검출해 내고, 검출된 숫자음을 인식하기 위해 포만트 주파수를 이용한다. 한국어 연결 숫자음 인식은 한국어 숫자음이 단음절로 구성된다는 점과 발음상의 조음효과 등으로 한계를 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 숫자음과 발성에 필요한 음소들을 추출하고, 숫자들을 모음에 따라 6개의 그룹으로 분류하여 인식의 범위를 좁히고, 포만트 주파수 정보와 음소 HMM 모델에 의한 두 단계에 걸친 인식을 수행함으로써 연결 숫자음 인식에 대한 성능을 향상시킨다.

Shadow Removal based on Chromaticity and Brightness Distortion for Effective Moving Object Tracking (효과적인 이동물체 추적을 위한 색도와 밝기 왜곡 기반의 그림자 제거)

  • Shadow is a common physical phenomenon in natural images and may cause problems in computer vision tasks. Therefore, shadow removal is an essential preprocessing process for effective moving object tracking in video image. In this paper, we proposed the method of shadow removal algorithm using chromaticity, brightness distortion and direction of shadow candidate. The proposed method consists of two steps. First, removal process of primary shadow candidate region by using chromaticity, brightness and distortion. The second stage applies the final shadow candidate region to obtain a direction feature of shadow which is estimated by the thinning algorithm after calculating the lowest pixel position of the moving object. To verify the proposed approach, some experiments are conducted to draw a compare between conventional method and that of proposed. Experimental results showed that proposed methodology is simple, but robust and well adaptive to be need to remove a shadow removal operation.

Real-Time License Plate Detection Based on Faster R-CNN (Faster R-CNN 기반의 실시간 번호판 검출)

  • Automatic License Plate Detection (ALPD) is a key technology for a efficient traffic control. It is used to improve work efficiency in many applications such as toll payment systems and parking and traffic management. Until recently, the hand-crafted features made for image processing are used to detect license plates in most studies. It has the advantage in speed. but can degrade the detection rate with respect to various environmental changes. In this paper, we propose a way to utilize a Faster Region based Convolutional Neural Networks (Faster R-CNN) and a Conventional Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), which improves the computational speed and is robust against changed environments. The module based on Faster R-CNN is used to detect license plate candidate regions from images and is followed by the module based on CNN to remove False Positives from the candidates. As a result, we achieved a detection rate of 99.94% from images captured under various environments. In addition, the average operating speed is 80ms/image. We implemented a fast and robust Real-Time License Plate Detection System.

Adult Image Classification using Adaptive Skin Detection and Edge Information (적응적 피부색 검출과 에지 정보를 이용한 유해 영상분류방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method of adult image classification by combining skin color regions and edges in an input image. The proposed method consists of four steps. In the first step, initial skin color regions are detected by logical AND operation of all skin color regions detected by the existing methods of skin color detection. In the second step, a skin color probability map is created by modeling the distribution of skin color in the initial regions. Then, a binary image is generated by using threshold value from the skin color probability map. In the third step, after using the binary image and edge information, we detect final skin color regions using a region growing method. In the final step, adult image classification is performed by support vector machine(SVM). To this end, a feature vector is extracted by combining the final skin color regions and neighboring edges of them. As experimental results, the proposed method improves performance of the adult image classification by 9.6%, compared to the existing method.
