  • This study, the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMO Scale) developed by Przybylski et al. (2013) was adapted and validated to the Korean culture. 3-factors were constructed through EFA and item content analysis. In the CFA, 3 models were constructed to verify the fit of the model. Compared the goodness of fit, 3-factors model with 8 items proved to be the most appropriate. Sub-factors extracted through the characteristic context and rationale of Korean culture are 'belonging needs', 'extrinsic motivation', and 'relative deprivation'. K-FoMO scale and the reliability level of each sub-factor were good. Convergent validity was assessed by significant correlation the K-FoMO scores with life satisfaction, positive emotions, negative emotions, and SNS addiction proneness. Discriminant validity was assessed by low correlation with gratitude. At the end, limitation and suggestions for the future research were discussed.

  • This study aims to highlight the social aspects of genetic discrimination as another shadow that biotechnology can influence on social life. To do so, the definition of "genetic discrimination" and three perspectives (exceptionalism, expressivism, and human right discourse) were reviewed. In addition, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of the United States and the Bioethics and Safety Act of Korea were analyzed. Several social implications for establishing the research and policies of genetic discrimination based on the existing research results of perceived genetic discrimination (the experiences, fears, and coping strategies of genetic discrimination) were suggested. These included public consensus on the definition of genetic discrimination and emphasis on a human rights approach against genetic discrimination; concerns regarding genetic discrimination in both the personal and public domains; raising the consciousness of both health care providers and the public regarding genetic discrimination; and developing psycho-social coping strategies for decreasing the fear of discrimination of asymptomatic people (hereditary carriers).

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the attitudes towards death and euthanasia of Nurses and Nursing students live in convergence era. The participants were 380 nurses and nursing students and data were collected from May until June of 2014. The data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe test with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. The result showed that the fear of death of others with nursing students was higher than nurses (t=-3.34, p=.001) and nursing students supported euthanasia more than nurses(t=-3.06, p=.002). Among the death attitude, both of the nurses and the nursing students had the highest score 'fear of their own dying' and the lowest score 'fear of the dying of others'. Regarding attitude to euthanasia, both of them the most important factor was 'the right of the client'. These results suggest that death education program to deal with nursing services without ethical conflicts should be developed.

  • This paper discusses how the strategies for crime prevention are interrelated to sustainable urban development. The sustainable urban development for healthy and safe cities implies regulations or legal, lawful control to reduce fear of crime and prevent substantial threats to health and safety of individual persons as well as of the community. City planners attempt to apply to the strategies for crime prevention their perception of what the sustainable urban development should be with respect to urban environment. Many planners have studied on the possibility of reduction in fear of crime and actual crimes through environmental improvement. The results of their preliminary studies provide specific suggestions to reduce crimes and fear of crime by application of CPTED. This study proposes alternatives in policy necessary for CPTED, which is one of the strategies for crime prevention, to take its place as a useful strategy for making the urban societies safe and sustainable.

  • The perception of risk that firefighters have is closely related to their performance and emergency preparedness in nuclear power plant accidents. This study investigated the unique risk perception among firefighters working in nuclear power plants (NPPs) using a concept mapping method. Thirty three firefighters in NPPs participated in this study. Two core axes, "fear and control" and "coping resource", emerged in the firefighters' risk perception. In particular, the risk perception consisted of six clusters: fear of radiation exposure and low controllability; anxiety caused by the lack of control and authority; lack of trust and cooperation; lack of authority and professionals; lack of equipment, manual, and information; and lack of knowledge and training. Catastrophic expectation and a low sense of control caused by the lack of responsive resources were the main factors that increase the risk perception. The theoretical and practical contributions of this study were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine music-color association response(MCAR) of people with visual impairment through music-emotion scale and music-color scale. The study was conducted on 60 participants(30 congenital/ 30 adventitious) who are using services of two welfare centers at S and B cities. For this, four basic emotions (happiness, sadness, anger, and fear) mediated by music were selected, and MCAR to emotion-inducing music were analyzed through self-report method. As a result, first, there were found contrasts in MCAR between happiness and sadness according to type of emotion, however, similar in anger and fear. Second, in MCAR among three variables of the music-emotion scale(valence, arousal and intensity), valence was congruent with MCAR according to type of emotion, arousal marked high scores in negative emotions, and scores of intensity in happiness and sadness were higher than those in anger and fear. Third, there were no significant differences between two groups of people with congenital and adventitious visual impairments. It is meaningful that this study showed the MCAR can be mediated by music through investigating those of people with visual impairment.

  • There is increasing tension and anxiety about being evaluated by others such as anxiety, which is felt when others' evaluation is expected or actual, and this is called social interaction anxiety. The purpose of this study was to develop a nursing intervention program that can reduce social interaction anxiety among nursing college students by analyzing factors affecting social interaction anxiety in nursing college students. The subjects of this study were four nursing college students in B city and C city. The survey data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. The results of this study show that social interaction anxiety was positively correlated with fear of negative evaluation (r=.67, p<.001), fear of positive evaluation (r=.56, p<.001), and intolerance of uncertainty (r=.44, p<.001). Factors affecting ambivalence over emotional expressiveness in terms of social interaction anxiety was interpersonal relationship (β=.19, p<.001), fear of negative evaluation (β=.43, p<.001), and fear of positive evaluation (β=.34, p<.001). The explanatory power of these variables was 58.1%. Therefore, it is thought that nursing college students need to provide a support system to maintain good interpersonal relationships, to reduce sensitivity to positive and negative evaluation, and to accept and positively evaluate their own ability.
