  • Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Ryodoraku in the patients with acute and chronic urticaria, and to compare the acute and chronic urticaria. Methods : Subjects were 124 patients with urticaria, acute(<8 weeks) patients were thirty eight and chronic(${\geq}$ 8 weeks) patients were sixty four. We calculated the average Ryodoraku score(RS, ${\mu}A$) and each variation from physiologic range of 12 Ryodoraku points, and compared the acute and chronic urticaria Ryodoraku points pattern. Results : 1. The mean value of F3 and F5 were under 40${\mu}A$ in acute urticaria group. 2. The mean value of H1, H2, H4, H5, H6, F1 and F4 were over 60${\mu}A$ in chronic urticaria group. 3. There were significant difference between acute and chronic urticaria group at H2, H3, H4, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 and total Ave. Conclusion : These findings suggest that there are significant differences of Ryodoraku pattern between acute and chronic urticaria group, and Ryodoraku reflect the characteristic of urticaria.

  • Introduction Chronic idiopathic urticaria in patients diagnosed with an unfavorable pattern in Soyangin and Taeumin based on Sasang medicine showed a significant improvement after herbal medicine treatment. Methods The patients had treatment with both herbal medication and antihistamine. We checked the patients' cutaneous manifestation, original symptoms, and the number of antihistamine doses in each visit. We evaluated the medical records retrospectively. Results After one month of treatment, the patients showed cutaneous manifestation relief. Each patient reduced and withdrew antihistamine at four moths and eight months respectively, and the cutaneous manifestation did not recur. We maintained the herbal medicine prescription until the origin symptoms improved. Throughout the subsequent follow-up, the patients showed both urticaria and the original symptoms in good condition without treatment. Discussion Sasang medicine treatment can be an effective treatment for chronic idiopathic urticaria and long-term management is necessary for an unfavorable pattern which can take more than 6 months.

Methods : A 26-year-old female acute urticaria patient visited Dong-Eui university Korean medical hospital at November 10th, 2020. The patient received Korean monotherapy including herbal medicine and aroma cream. The treatment continued for about 1 month until December 4th, 2020. Urticaria activity score(UAS), visual analogue scale(VAS), photographs were used to assess the symptoms. Results : After 20 days of medication, the symptoms were disappeared. UAS score was dropped 6 to 0 and VAS score dropped 9 to 0. About two years later, there was no recurrence. Conclusions : These results suggests that acute urticaria which accompanied by a moderate degree of pruritus can be sufficiently managed by Korean medicine therapy.

  • Objectives: This study was designed to assess traditional Korean medical therapy for urticaria and establish a clinical assessment guideline. Methods: Duration of symptoms, personal and family history of allergic diseases, serum IgE level, suspected causes and Provocation factors were investigated in 56 patients. Frequency of wheals, duration of wheals, number of wheals, itch severity and antihistamine counts on a 6-point (0-5) scale were assessed in 34 patients. The change of total scores and each criterion between baseline and follow up were analyzed using paired t-test (p<0.05). Results: 1. Acute urticaria within 6 weeks was $26.8\%$ and chronic urticaria over 6 weeks was $73.2\%$. The mean duration of symptoms was $19.2\pm38.8$ months. 2. $57.1\%$ of patients had a personal history of allergic diseases and $50\%$had a family history. $29.1\%$ had over 200 IU/mL serum IgE level. 3. The suspected causes were none $(39.3\%)$, foods $(32.1\%)$, drugs $(12.5\%)$, contact $(5.4\%)$ and maternity$(5.4\%)$. 4. The suspected provocation factors were foods $(41.1\%)$, none $(26.8\%)$, fatigue $(12.5\%)$, heat and sweating $(12.5\%)$, pressure $(10,7\%)$ and stress $(7.1\%)$. 5. The total scores between baseline and follow up of 34 patients were lowered from $15.38^{\circ}\;{\ae}3.75\;to\;8.82^{\circ}\;{\ae}5.21$, which was significant statistically (p=0.000). 6. Itch severity, frequency of wheals and number of wheals were the most significantly lowered of all criteria. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medical therapy was proven to be effective for urticaria, while itch severity, frequency of wheals and number of wheals should be assessed clinically with greater priority.

  • Adverse drug reactions(ADRs) were caused by dexran 40 in patient with ischemic stroke and related 22 patients reported to formal ADRs at Jesus Hospital in Jeonju. This study was aimed to search ADRs related factors, type and the degree associated with dextran 40. Adverse Effects of Dextran 40 is including marked hypotension, nausea, dyspnea, generalized urticaria, fever and pulmonary edema. The average hospitalization period was 20 days and it was extended 26.8%. ADRs of Dextran 40 to incidence is 12.4%, and 9 persons(28.1%), itching, rash was 7 people (21.9%). Dextran induced ADRs reaction may be reported on early injection period and first time shot, but adverse drug reactions occurred after 4 days in 4 patients(18.2%). US FDA has recommanded that Dextran 1 significantly reduces the incidence of severe ADRs in USA. Because low molecular weighted dextran 1 prevented dextran molecules from combined Ig G completely. In Korea. Generally not yet introduced dextran 1, active use dextran 1 is able to be a good way in order to reduce ADRs of dextran 40.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of herbal medicine for the treatment of urticaria in case studies and to find the general tendency of herbal medicine treatment and to establish the primary treatment direction of urticaria. Methods : In the domestic databases, Oriental medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS), Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal (KTKP), National Discovery for Science Leader (NDSL), Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), we selected among the case study papers published in the last 20 years using search terms related to "urticaria". Reports related to Sasang Constitutional medicine were excluded and total of 15 papers were finally selected. Results : 23 prescriptions were retrieved from 15 papers. The most commonly used prescription was Seungmagalgeun-tang (升麻葛根湯), and Bangpoongtongsung-san (防風通聖散) and Pyeongwi-san (平胃散) were presented twice. Commonly used herbs are Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (甘草), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (生薑), and Scutellariae Radix (黃芩). 18 out of 78 herbs are belonging to heat-clearing medicinal (淸熱藥) and 16 out of 78 herbs are belonging to exterior-releasing medicinal (解表藥). Concurrent therapies such as acupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy, ice pack applying therapy were performed and several evaluation methods were used, patient's subjective remission rate was the most used. Conclusions : Through this study, we were able to discover the tendency of herbal medicine prescription for the treatment of urticaria.
