  • In this paper, an experimental study is performed in order to determine the effects of interaction between vehicle and structure. For this purpose a wheel tracking machine and an adequate precast concrete deck single span bridge are designed. Results presented in the paper show that interaction between vehicle and structure produce additional effects on dynamic behavior of structure including reversal and contrary behavior.

  • Through this research safety factors were analyzed for concrete precast panels in road pavement which happens in lifting, moving, and installing. Two half size of full-scale precast concrete panels were made while one full-scale precast concrete panel was made. A series of strain gages for concrete and steel were installed and measured in lifting and transporting. Measurement results indicate that in case of 60 degree of lifting, small scale panel in dynamic motion produces about 3.54 times of strain compared to the static condition. However strain measurement of full-scale concrete panel in lifting and transportation does not yield any big difference compared to the small scale panels in the static condition. From this experimental results safety of the full-scale concrete panel was attained for the lifting system adopted in this research.

  • Using the dynamic panel model, this study investigates rent determinants for small and medium-sized office buildings in Korea's CBD and Gangnam areas, key business districts. The results reveal that rents for small and medium-sized office buildings in CBD and Gangnam areas are influenced by macroeconomic fluctuations and characteristics of buildings and locations, suggesting a market with both spatial consumer and investment goods attributes. There are several investment implications as follows. First, even if the location in the CBD area is advantageous, the practical limitations in renovating aging small and medium-sized office buildings must be taken into account when investing. Second, parking conditions are a key factor influencing rent prices in CBD areas, so evaluating the parking facilities and improvement potential of small and medium-sized office buildings is essential for investors. Finally, due to the high sensitivity of Gangnam's small and medium-sized office market to macroeconomic trends, it's vital to prioritize monetary policy shifts as a key factor in investment decisions.

  • Urbanization and income distribution issues are global interest, and the results of studies on the impact of urbanization on income inequality are different for each country and period. This study analyzes the impact of urbanization on income inequality using regional data from 2000-2021. In particular, serial correlation, spatial dependence, and common factor effects of the Gini coefficient are confirmed and analyzed through a dynamic spatial panel regression model. As a result, urbanization has a positive effect on reducing income inequality. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously promote regional urbanization to improve the income distribution problem. Areas with already high urbanization rates should reduce income inequality by narrowing the wage gap by expanding training opportunities for low-skilled workers, and need to come up with measures to prevent counter-urbanization.

  • Korea's first Naro-Science small class satellite was launched by Naro launcher in 2013. The structure of the satellite is mostly composed of aluminum honeycomb and frame. The honeycomb structure is homogenized with asymptotic homogenization method and its mechanical properties were used for the numerical analysis. There have been some difficulties to modeling the honeycomb sandwich panels for FEA. In the present study, the mechanical characteristics of the sandwich panel composite were numerically computed and used for the simulation. This methodology makes it easy to overcome the weakness of modeling of complicated sandwich panels. Both an experiment of vibration test and numerical analyses were conducted simultaneously. The analysis results from the current homogenization were compared with that of experiment. It shows a good agreement on the dynamic responses and certified the reliability of the present methodology when manipulate sandwich panel structure.

  • In this paper, we use panel dataset from Korean linked worker-firm to analyse the effects of the workforce age structure on the productivity or labor costs. We measure 'labor productivity' as added value per capita, 'cost of labor' as labor cost per capita and estimate a dynamic panel model to study the effects of the workforce age structure on the productivity or labor costs. Empirical analysis results show that the workforce age structure is positively related to productivity and labor costs, but only up to the aged of 35-39. That is, we find that an increase in the proportion of younger workers or elder workers rather than the aged 35-39 has a negative effect on productivity and labor cost. In particular, the difference between the estimation coefficient of productivity and labor cost when the share of workers aged 50 or older is increased instead of the aged 35-39 is higher than the difference between the estimation coefficient of productivity and labor cost when the share of workers aged 30 or younger is increased instead of the aged 35-39. Our results exhibit that it is reasonable for firms to worry about declining productivity of elderly workers, whereas firms already used older workers efficiently, such as by adjusting their labor costs.

  • Recently, urban shrinkage due to low birth rate and aging population and the decline of local cities are causing a new urban problem of empty houses. This study examines the distribution of vacant homes using spatial panel data collected from 2015 to 2019 at local administraitve districts and estimates the factors of vacant house occurrence using a spatial panel model considering spatio-temporal dependency. As a result, the spatio-temporal dependence of vacant houses was identified and it was estimated using spatial panel model not OLS model. Based on the spatial panel model, it was found that the most influential factor in the occurrence of vacant houses was the housing-related factor. This result shows that policy considerations for housing supply are necessary for the management of vacant housing as well as population movement and poor infrastructure.

  • This study examined one of the contemporary financial aspects, the level of corporate cash holdings for the firms belonging to the chaebols in the Korean capital markets. Being accompanied by various alternative econometric methodologies such as static and dynamic panel data model, stepwise OLS, and Fama-Macbeth modelm this research extended the preceding Kim's study (2015) in anticipation of validating the results to identify any financial factors which may significantly affect the chaebol firms' cash reserves. Several financial characteristics such as CASHFLOW, MVBV, REINVEST, and AGENCY, were found to be statistically significant factors on the level corporate liquidity, along with CCC as cash conversion cycle in the models. It may be plausible that any outcomes of this study may be applied to enhance the efficiency of financial strategies of the chaebol firms on cash holdings, thereby expediting the development of the domestic capital markets status quo toward the advanced one in the market classification.

  • This study aims to analyze the effect of local government capacities on the improvement of air pollution. For this purpose, we construct a dynamic panel model using a data set for air pollutants such as $SO_2$, $CO_2$, and particulate matters and the local governments' capacities for Chinese Provinces in the period of 2007 - 2014. The results show that of the three types of capacities, the organizational capacity measured by environmental personnel, environmental expenditures, and average size of environmental institutions is very important, while the institutional capacity and social capacity have a insignificant impact on the air quality improvement. Among the local government capacities, other than the organizational capacity, only the activity of environmental organizations, which is a social capacity, partially affects the improvement of air pollution. Regarding local conditions, vertical dependence of financial resources, GRDP per capita, and population density have a negative impact on improving air pollution. These findings provide implications for local governments in China as to what capacities they should improve to improve air pollution.
