Investigation of the Variation of SAR Values in Mice and Rats Depending on the Exposure Conditions in Whole-Body Exposure Environments (전신 노출 환경에서 노출 조건에 따른 마우스와 랫트의 SAR 값 변화량 분석)

  • In animal experiments for EMF exposure, it is very important to estimate the SAR values accurately in animals. In this paper, we investigated the variation of SAR values in mice and rats, depending on the number and separation distance of animals and the existence of the water-supplying bottle. The whole-body of mice or rats in a cage were exposed in the reverberation chamber at CDMA and WCDMA frequencies. Simulation results show that the variation of the whole-body averaged SAR is larger when several animals are exposed in a cage, compared to the existence of water-supplying bottle and the amount of water. It turns out that compared to single mouse or rat is located in the cage, the maximum variation of the whole-body averaged SAR values for mice at 850 MHz and 1,950 MHz are 15.3 % and 14.9 % when three mice are located in the cage, and those for rats are 18.7 % and 21.1 % for each frequency when two rats are located in the cage. It is concluded that the variation of SAR values depending on the exposure conditions in real situation cannot be ignored.

A Community Characteristic on Benthic Macroinvertebrates and Correlation of Physicochemical Water Quality Factors in Stream of Gaya Mountain (가야산 수계 내 저서성 대형무척추동물의 군집특성과 이화학적 수질요인과의 상관관계)

  • In this study the community characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrates distributed in stream of Gaya Mountain were figured out and the correlation with the physicochemical water quality factors were calculated. During the study period, total 4 phyla, 6 classes, 13 orders, 36 families, 100 species of benthic macroinvertebrates were recorded. Ephemeroptera were the most dominant followed by Trichoptera, Plecoptera, Diptera, Non-insecta, Hemiptera, and Odonata. The overall dominant species was Cincticostella levanidovae by dominance rate in 17.72%, subdominant species was Hydatophylax nigrovittatus by dominance rate in 6.15%. The biotic indices showed the diversity index 5.17, richness index 12.44, dominant index 0.24 and evenness index 0.78, there is no absolutely dominant benthic macroinvertebrates in the stream of Gaya Mountain. We identified the correlation between the species number and individuals of main taxa and the physicochemical water quality factors. Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera showed a negative correlation with water temperature, but they represented a positive correlation with the dissolved oxygen. This results suggest that water temperature and dissolved oxygen are important physicochemical water quality factors affects the distribution of Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera, the indicators of clean water stream.

Biodiversity and Community Composition of Benthic Macroinvertebrates from Upo Wetlands in Korea (우포습지의 저서성 대형무척추동물 다양성과 군집 특성)

  • Biodiversity and seasonal community composition of benthic macroinvertebrates were studied from Upo wetlands in Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea, comprising Upo (4 sites), Mokpo (2 sites), Sajipo (1 site), Jjokjibeol (1 site), Yeobeol (1 site), and Topyeongcheon (2 sites) areas from October 2002 to August 2003. As a result, it was known that Upo wetlands retained relatively well-preserved littoral zones which may provide good habitats for benthic macroinvertebrates; however, frequent disturbances of littoral zones caused by flood were the major factor affecting on the survival and distribution of benthic macroinvertebrates in the areas. During the study period, a total of 135 species of benthic macroinvertebrates in 10 genera, 59 families, 16 orders, 7 classes, and 3 phyla were collected those of which are the highest degree of diversity of the taxa ever known in Korean wetlands: aquatic insects 103 spp. (Diptera 27 spp., Odonata 24 spp., Coleoptera 19 spp., Hemiptera 16 spp., Ephemeroptera 9 spp., Trichoptera 7 spp., and Collembola 1 sp.), Crustacea 2 spp., Mollusca 19 spp. (Gastropoda 12 spp. and Bivalvia 7 spp.), and Annelids 11 spp. (Oligocaeta 1 sp. and Hirudinea 10 spp.). Sajipo (St.G) and Jjokjibeol (St.H) areas yielded relatively larger numbers of species, 54 spp. and 53 spp., respectively, while more than 40 species occurred at most other sites. Based on quantitative sampling (0.5m${\times}$2m), aquatic insects (88.0%), particularly chironomids in Diptera (61.0%), occupied major proportion of the total individuals of benthic macroinvertebrates, while Mollusca (5.3%), Annelida (3.5%), and Crustacea (3.2%) occupied minor proportions. In standing water areas, diverse groups of benthic macroinvertebrates such as chironomids, demselflies, aquatic bugs, aquatic beetles, crustaceans, and gastropods were dominant in terms of individual number; in the running water areas, on the other hand, chironomids and baetid mayflies were dominant. However, gastropods, i.e. viviparids, were the dominant group of benthic macroinvertebrates in most study areas in terms of biomass. Dominance indices were 0.22-0.51 (mean$\pm$sd 0.42$\pm$0.09) in autumn, 0.31-0.96 (0.02$\pm$0.23) in winter, and 0.30-0.89 (0.57$\pm$0.18) in summer; diversity indices were 3.50-4.26 (3.80$\pm$0.24) in autumn,1.55-4.50 (3.10$\pm$1.01) in winter, and 1.35-3.77 (2.55$\pm$0.09) in summer. Highly movable or true aquatic benthic macroinvertebyates such as aquatic bugs, aquatic beetles, and gastropods recovered earlier after flood. In the study sites of Upo wetlands, Upo and Sajipo areas showed relatively higher values of average diversity index which may indicate a good habitat condition for benthic macroinvertebrates.

릿테르개멍게, Halocynthia hilgendorfi ritterif의 생식주기

  • 릿테르개멍게는 척색동물문 해초강에 속하는 멍게류로서 고착생활을 하며, 보통 해조류나 히드라 등으로 덮여 있어 눈으로 식별하기가 어렵고, 생태 및 분류에 관한 연구만이 있을 뿐이다. 이 연구는 제주도 연안에 서식하는 릿테르개멍게의 번식생태에 대한 기초자료를 얻고자 배우자형성과정 및 생식소 발달 단계 등을 조직학적으로 조사하였다. 실험 재료는 제주도 용담 연안에서 2001년 11월부터 2003년 1월까지 매월 20개체씩 총 300개체를 채집하여 생식소의 조직학적 변화를 관찰하였다. 릿테르개멍게는 자웅동체로서 생식소는 체벽부에 붙어 있고, 성숙시기에 난소는 적색을, 정소는 유백색을 띠고 있다. 생식소와 체벽부를 포함해 절단된 조직표본에서 보면 외측체벽은 근섬유를 포함한 섬유성결합조직이 발달해 있고 여기에 이어진 방형의 난소낭과 그 주변부에 자리 잡고 있는 여러 개의 정소낭을 식별할 수 있었다. 생식소 발달 및 배우자형성과정, 월별 생식소변화를 토대로 생식주기를 구분하면 성장기 (3-5월),난황기 (5-7월), 성숙기 (7-11월), 방출기 (11-2월), 회복기 (1-3월)로 구분되었으며, 주 산란시기는 11-1월로, 연중 1회의 산란시기를 갖는다.

  • Two species of the heptageniid mayfly genus Thalerosphyrus Eaton, T. vietnamensis (Dang) and T. separatus n. sp., are described from Vietnam. Thalerosphyrus separatus can be distinguished by the basally detached posterolateral expansions of pronotum in larva and by the Y -shaped penes in male adult. Their larval and adult stages are described with line-drawings of diagnostic characters. Their diagnoses, distributions, habitat and ecological data, and taxonomic remarks are provided.

  • This study was done with mouse embryo to assess effects of freezing media containing sucrose, freezing metods(1-F, 0.3$^{\circ}C$/min;2-F, 3-5$^{\circ}C$/min;3-F, 15$^{\circ}C$min;4-F, LN2 vapour) and cell freezers on the embryo survival determined using the FDA test. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The FDA score obtained with 1, 2, 3 and 4-F was 3.8, 3.6, 3.2 and 3.2, respectively. There was a significant difference(P<0.05) between 1-F, 3-F and 2-F, 4-F. 2. The score at the morular stage(3.8) higher(P<0.005) than the blastocyst stage of embryos(3.2). 3. No difference (P>0.05) was found between the score obtained with a automatic embryo freezer(4.0) and a liquid nitrogen container(3.7).

Detection of Mycobacterium bovis in cattle by PCR (PCR기법을 이용한 젖소 결핵균 검색 분리 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to detect Mycobacterium bovis in cattle(serum, milk, lung, lymph node) by PCR. Nineteen samples from 7 skin test-positive cattle were analyzed. The amplified band of IS6110 by PCR was detected from 2 samples in lung and Iymph node. But the sensitivities of the present methods for detecting M bovis in milk and serum are deficient. Because the PCR sensitivity has been shown to be hindered by the method used to isolate the nucleic acid target. PCR-based methods have the potential to be faster, more accurate, and the most efficient means of detecting M bovis. The detection of M bovis by PCR will contribute to the more efficient detection and control of tuberculosis.

  • We investigated the effects of CP-2 extracted from the mixture of Copis and Croton tiglium L, which showed very high cytotoxic effect to the various tumor cells, on the growth and steroidenesis of primary and transformed cell lines PA-GS6 and PO-GRS1 by cotransfectionwith SV40 and Ha ras oncogenes. CP-2 inhibited the growth of PA-GS6 and PO-GRS1 in a dose dependent manner when the growth of them was measured by cell number and by protein content, while CP-2 did not affect the growth of primary granulose cells. Productions of progesterone ofprimary and transformed granulosa cells were stimulated by forskolin, but this stimulatory effect was blocked by treatment of CP-2. Clinical application of CP-2 asa new anti-cancer drug and utilization of transformed granulosa cells as a model system for the screening of anti-cancer drug were also discussed.

Seroprevalence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrom(PRRS) in Dangjin (당진지역 돼지생식기호흡기증후군(PRRS) 항체가 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was sero-epidemiological survey of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrom(PRRS) in Dangjin area. 411 samples from 26 pig farms were analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The data indicate that 66% of the pigs and 92% of the farms showed sero-positives to the PRRS viruc. Sows showed 58% of sero-positive rate and fattening pigs showed 85% of seropositive rate. The rate of sero-positive in boars was 63%. No significant regional differences were detected in sero-epidemiological survey.

  • 21세기 양돈산업의 전망은 환경문제, 사료생산, 동물복지 등 다양한 생산제한 요인에 의하여 국제적으로 돈육수급이 불안정할 것으로 예상되지만, 세계적으로 돼지고기 소비는 아시아 지역의 경기회복 등으로 증가추세에 있어 우리의 노력 여하에 따라서는 내수 소비확대 및 수출재개 등 경쟁력 있는 양돈산업으로 발전될 수 있다고 생각합니다. 또한 미래의 양돈산업 전개방향은 소비자 중심의 산업으로 변화되어 돈육의 건강개념과 영양적 가치 증진 및 식품의 안전성에 중점을 둘 것이며, 특히 소비자의 의식변화는 미래 양돈산업을 지배하는 결정적인 요인이 될 것입니다. 한편 유통경영 측면에서는 수직협력 시스템(Vertical co-ordination)과 효율적인 물류유통관리(MSCM) 시스템 도입이 가속화 될 것입니다. 즉, 소비자가$\codt$저마진에 의한 다량판매, 대규모 사육, 생산비 절감 기술개발에 주력할 것이라고 생각됩니다. 이에 따라 우리나라 양돈산업의 국제경쟁력 제고를 위하여 보다 시급히 해결되어야 할 질병$\codt$방역관리, 유통구조 개선, 고품질 돈육생산 및 위생$\codt$품질향상 분야에 있어서 중점 추진되어야 할 내용을 소개하고자 합니다.
