Hypoglycemic Activity of Opuntia ficus-indica var.sabotan on Alloxan- or Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Mice (Alloxan 및 Streptozotocin 유도 당뇨모델 동물에서 손바닥 선인장의 혈당강하 효과)

  • Hypoglycemic activity of Opuntia ficus-indica var. sabotan on alloxan or streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice was investigated. Fructus and folium of Opuntia ficus-indica vars. sabotan inhibited intestinal ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ of rats as well as glucose elevation in blood of normal mice, Opuntia ficus-indica var. sabotan exhibited inhibitory activities on streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice rather than on alloxan-induced diabetic mice loaded with maltose and sucrose. Its folium was more effective than its fructus. These results suggest that Opuntia ficus-indica var. sabotan might be effective on diabetic mellitus.

  • From the biopsychological point of view,learning could be defined as the processes to transfer the information that we obtain from environment to the neural circuits in the brain.In the studies to determine the biological substrates of learning and memory,there was a remarkable effort to identify neural circuits related with a specific type of learning and to describe the mechanixm of neural plasticity of learning and memory,under the assumption that the memory orinformation may be stored as a modificationof neural synapes in the central nerviys system.On the other hand,there was a different kind of tendency to analyze the mechanism of interactions between neural substrates involved in learning and memory,under the assumption that a specific information may be represented in the patterns of comples neural network of the central nervous system.The present review,in the former position.focused on the research methods and the chracteristics and finding of the investigations employing animal model systems to indentify the essential site of engram for learning and memory.Specifically,the review presents major advances in ourunderstanding of the memory trace circuit for a specific type of learning,with the use of animal model system,the detemination of the critical lodi of neuaral plastic chabges In learing abd memory,and the neurophysiological an biocemical mechanixms of the neural modifia by learint.

  • 목적 : 단순포진바이러스로 유발한 베체트병 마우스 모델에서 가미청혈보혈탕과 가미 용담사간탕을 colchicine과 함께 투여할 경우, 한방 혹은 양방 단독 투여의 경우와 비교하여 베체트병 증상의 호전에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 : colchicines, 가미 청혈보혈탕, 가미용담사간탕을 각각 또는 colchicines+가미 청혈보혈탕, colchicines+가미용담 사간탕을 20일간 복합 투여하여 베체트 증상이 호전되는 정도를 살펴보고, 호전 되는 증상의 종류를 파악하고, 이때 동반되는 싸이토카인을 RT-PCR, FACS등으로 확인하고자 하였다. 결과 : 단독투여군보다 복합투여군에서 증상이 호전되는 율이 높았으며, 호전 시기를 앞당겼고, 이때 싸이토카인 interteukin-4의 발현이 증가하였다. 결론 ; 베체트병 마우스 모델에서, 양방과 한방의 복합투여가 단독투여보다 증상의 호전에 보다 더 효과적이었다.

Immunomodulatory Effects of Eurya emarginata on NC/Nga Mice as Models for Atopic Dermatitis (아토피 피부염의 동물 모델인 NC/Nga Mice에서의 우묵사스레피의 면역조절 효과)

  • In this study, a test for the immunity control effect by ethanolic extract of Eurya emarginata (EE-70E) on NC/Nga mice as the models for atopic dermatitis was conducted with the following results. Atopic dermatitis in NC/Nga mice was induced by repeated application of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNCB) for 5 weeks. Mice were orally administered EE-70E or terfenadine, positive control for 3 weeks. Scratching behavior, clinical skin severity, and the levels of IL-4, L-13, IL-17, total serum IgG1, and total serum IgE were measured. The oral administration with EE-70E doses of 200 or 400 mg/kg significantly decreased scratching behavior scores and clinical skin severity score in a dose-dependent manner (p<0.05). The administration of EE-70E at 400 mg/kg significantly decreased cytokines within the blood serum, that is, IL-4, L-13, and IL-17 compared to the control group (p<0.05). The level of blood histamine was statistically significantly decreased. Administration of EE-70E at 400 mg/kg significantly decreased the levels of total serum IgE (p<0.05). The above results indicated that EE-70E was effective in improving the symptoms of atopic dermatitis through various immunity control mechanisms.

Parabiosis and Aging Researches (개체병렬결합 그리고 노화 연구)

  • Most people have a desire to live longer. According to ancient Chinese and Korean mythology, Dongfang Shuo (Dongbang Sahk) lived for 18,000 years. According to a WHO report, the average longevity of humans has extended from 50-odd years in the 1960s to 75-85 years in 2016. Parabiosis, the joining to circulatory systems of two animals, was described as early as the 1860s. It provides a powerful experimental model to investigate the effects of one animal on its partner animal in vivo. Research on reverse aging is an immensely popular in parabiosis studies. In this review, the origin of the parabiosis model and important historical findings based on parabiosis models are presented. Surprising and debated discoveries in aging research are also introduced. Using heterochronic parabiosis of connecting circulatory systems of a young mouse and old mouse, various groups claim to have identified a reverse aging factor, growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), which was significantly reduced in blood of old mice. Although the potential existence of any one factor or factors that could reverse aging remains to be confirmed, studies have shown that the parabiosis model is powerful enough to detect reverse aging factors.

재래산양에 있어서 핵이식란의 융합조건이 융합 및 체외발달에 미치는 영향

  • 오늘날 생명공학기술의 눈부신 발달로 인하여 우리나라 재래산양은 그 모델동물로서 번식ㆍ생리학적으로 매우 중요한 가치를 지니고 있을 뿐만 아니라 고유의 유전자원 보존 측면에서도 산양복제와 같은 다양한 연구를 통하여 개량체계의 확립이 절실히 요구된다. 본 연구는 우량가축의 증식, 인간의 질병치료 및 멸종위기동물의 종 보존 등에 활용할 수 있는 기초자료를 얻고자 재래산양의 핵이식을 실시하여 공여세포의 조건, 전기적 세기 및 융합횟수 등이 융합율과 체외발달율에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. (중략)
