A study on design optimization of a multistage bollard by Taguchi method (다구찌 방법을 통한 다단식 상하이동형 볼라드의 설계 최적화 연구)

  • This study deals with optimal conditions for design parameters of the multistage bollard with up and down installed on the street to protect pedestrians or stop cars. FE simulation and Taguchi method are used to achieve the optimization for the automatic multistage bollard to minimize effective stress caused by the external force. Thickness, height of stage 2, diameter and over-all height which affect its structural strength are chosen as design parameters. According to the experiments combined by orthogonal array, each of the effective stresses is evaluated. And the results are analyzed by using the signal to noise ratio concept of Taguchi method. From their results, the optimal combination of design parameters are proposed.

  • In the present study, process optimization for thermal-sprayed Ni-based alloy coating has been performed using Taguchi method and analysis of variance(ANOVA). Ni-based alloy coatings were fabricated by flame spray process on steel substrate, and the hardness test and wear test were performed. Experiments were designed as per Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array and tests were conducted with different Oxygen gas flow, Acetylene gas flow, Powder feed rate and Spray distance. Multi response signal to noise ratio (MRSN) was calculated for the response variables and the optimum combination level of factors was obtained simultaneously using Taguchi's parametric design.

  • In the development of new automobiles, the efforts to reduce environmental problems like air pollution have been risen. Blowby gas consists of about $20{\sim}35%$ of total amount of Hydrocarbon (HC), one of dangerous pollutants issuing from automobiles. A PCV valve is a very small component in an automotive engine but it is a very important part. Because that a PCV valve is used to control blowby gas and to recirculate it into a manifold automatically. Although it has very simple operating principle, designing a PCV valve is so difficult due to interaction between fluid and solid. In this study, our purpose is to develop a design program for a PCV valve and to verify its efficiency. Both Bernoulli equation and 4th order Runge-Kutta method were adopted to predict spool displacements and flow patterns. Comparing with experiments, it was found that both spool diameters and displacements were predicted well, however, flow rates showed a little differences because of the assumption of non viscous flow.

  • This paper provides a methodology for the optimization of waste heat usage in Jeju Province. The incineration plant was considered as heat source and the food garbage plant and the youth hostel were selected as heat sink of this study. The distribution of the reusing energy in incineration plant is decide by load analysis and numerical calculation of the operational methodology. The main objective of this study is on the reduction of the fuel costs and reuse of waste heat. As the results, the efficiency of the incineration plant and two heat sink, the food garbage plant and the youth hostel, are improved and economical suggestions are proposed through the optimization analysis.

  • In the study, it is considered sporty car as 1400cc entry cars using sound generator. These cars are required special sound quality, also sporty sound quality. The operational principle of this sound generator system is that on the operation of the engine intake valves caused pulsating is to shake the membrane of the sound generator on the inside of the driver front dash panel through the intake manifold, which will deliver the required sound quality and tone. For the component constructed sound generator, main design parameters are selected and optimized using the daguchi's method. The results are as follows; The C2 sound level must be minimized and C4 level must be maximized. And also overall level keeps linear characteristics.

  • Typically, robot system configured by articulated robot manipulator with 1 DOF transfer unit is being applied in automotive manufacturing automation process. Especially, 1 DOF transfer unit is necessary to extend workspace of robot manipulator. In this configuration, because transfer unit works only one direction, robot manipulator only works in one side in case of car body painting or sealing automation process. it is necessary three robot manipulator system at least. In this paper, in order to robot manipulator works effectively in car body sealing automation application, we are suggested omni-directional manipulator system and conducted studying on redundancy resolution method to solve manipulability-optimal problem.

  • Design of experiment was applied to analyze the shrinkage characteristics of the bobbin molded by injection molding. Among lots of design and processing conditions, the thickness of a bobbin and cooling conditions of a mold were considered. The temperature difference between top and bottom parts of the bobbin was considered as the objective to minimize the shrinkage of a bobbin. Optimal thickness of a bobbin was 2.0mm at the part of body and 1.5mm at the part of wing, respectively. Optimal cooling conditions such as cooling time and coolant inlet temperature were 12 second and $12^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • This paper introduced a new hybrid genetic algorithm, verified its performance, and applied it to the optimization of blade design and pitch control for 30kW pitch-controlled variable-speed horizontal-axis wind turbine system to determine the optimum blade chord and twist distributions that maximize the energy production for a given Weibull wind distribution and the optimum blade pitch angles that maintain constant power output.

  • The complete joining method for dissimilar hot die punch materials and its real-time evaluation method are not available at present. Brazing method has been used for joining them, but it is known that the welded joint by the brazing has the lower bonding efficiency and reliability than the diffusion welding. The friction welding with a diffusion mechanism in bonding was applied in this study. So, this work was carried out to determine the optimal friction welding conditions and to analyze mechanical properties of friction welded joints of hot die punch materials (STD61 for the blade part of hot die punch) to alloy steel (SCM440 for the shank part of hot die punch) such as plunger. In addition, acoustic emission test was carried out during friction welding to evaluate the weld quality.

  • The automotive industry faces many competitive challenges including weight and cost reduction to meet need for higher fuel economy. It is a trend that a lot of parts have been currently changed to an aluminum alloy from steel materials. It is required more precise analysis for practical load because of complexities and varieties of vehicle structure. In this study, the shape optimization using a FEA is performed to determine the design of the knuckle. The size optimization is carried out to find thickness while the stiffness constraints are satisfied. A commercial optimization software MSC/NASTRAN is utilized for the structural analysis and the optimization processes.
