  • In this paper characteristics of ATM-PON is described and a TC layer controller for ATM-PON OLT is designed. This paper proposes an algorithm of economically controlling the grant information written by CPU to dynamically allocate the upstream bandwidth on the PON among the ONUs in a fair way and of encrypting the downstream data using a lower standard of encryption, termed data churning, which is used to distinguish it from existing transmission system scramblers and higher layer encryption methods. This paper also proposes a method of allocating churning-related message into the PLOAM cell in order to synchronously change the churning key between the OLT and the ONU.

  • The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accomodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP/IP based traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available resources. In this paper, we propose a cell scheduling scheme which can improve the fairness and the goodput through the traffic control in GFR service. For the evaluation of the proposed scheme, we compare the proposed scheme with the existing scheme in the fairness and the goodput. Simulation results show that proposed scheme can improve the fairness and goodput comparing with the existing buffer management scheme.

  • The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accomodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP/IP based traffic in ATM networks. One of the important factors is buffer management for guaranteeing QoS in GFR service. In this paper, we propose a buffer management scheme which can improve the fairness and the throughput through the traffic control in GFR service. For the evaluation of the proposed scheme, we compare proposed scheme with the existing scheme in the fairness and the throughput. Simulation results show that proposed scheme can improve the fairness and throughput than the existing scheme.

  • PM synchronous motor may be rotated to an arbitrary direction and speed by outside wind under natural condition in cases where the fan is applied outside, such as in vehicle radiators and outdoor air-conditioners. Sensorless controls that cannot detect rotor position requires additional sensorless control algorithm because a rotor is rotated by an external load. In this study, the sensorless control of a PM synchronous motor under naturally rotating condition is proposed. The natural rotation conditions are classified as forward high-speed rotation, reverse high-speed rotation, and low-speed rotation. Experiment results verify the performance of the sensorless control, including the rotor speed and position detection at natural rotation mode and switch to the closed-loop sensorless control.

  • This study proposes a high-performance current control algorithm for a diode-bridge-type single-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) converter. The conventional asynchronous single-phase current controllers that directly control AC-type current tend to be accompanied by steady-state errors due to their poor dynamic characteristics for the transient-state, which can be attributed to bandwidth limitations and phase delays. In the proposed algorithm, an ideal current control with minimal phase delays and steady-state errors can be achieved by using a virtual DQ synchronous reference frame and by controlling the synchronous reference frame excluding the frequency component in the single-phase system. The performance of the conventional asynchronous single-phase current controller is compared with that of the proposed algorithm through simulation and experiments, and the results have confirmed the superiority of the latter.

Sensorless Speed Control Algorithm of IPMSM for Wide Speed Range with an Improved Full-Order Flux Observer (향상된 전차원 자속 관측기를 이용한 매입형 영구자석 동기 전동기의 넓은 영역 센서리스 속도제어 알고리즘 기법)

  • This paper proposes a sensorless control method to improve the performance of an internal permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) control by using a full-order flux observer in a wide speed range. The conventional sensorless control method uses a constant gain for high performance at low-speed region. However, this method has drawbacks such as an increased angle error and current ripple in the high-speed region due to the fixed gain value. In order to overcome this problem, the gain of the full-order flux observer is changed by considering the angle error in the whole speed range. The proposed method minimizes the angle error for each region of the speed range by applying a relevant gain value, which improves the current ripple reduction and motor noise cancellation. The validity of proposed sensorless control method is verified by a simulation and an experiment.

  • The rotor position of a PM synchronous motor is commonly estimated from the mathematical model for the sensorless control without rotor position sensors. For the magnet flux-based rotor position estimator in the stationary reference frame, the magnet flux estimator for estimating rotor position and speed includes the integrator. The integrator in the magnet flux estimator may accumulate the offset of the current sensors and the voltage drift. This continuous accumulation of the offset may cause the drift and overflow in the integrator, such that the estimated rotor position and speed may fail to track the real rotor position and speed. In this paper, the magnet flux estimator without integrator is proposed to avoid overflow in the integrator. The proposed rotor position and speed estimator based on magnet flux estimator are verified through simulation and experiment.

  • A compensation algorithm targeting for torque development from a SPMSM including a low speed operation is presented in this paper. As known, PM flux linkage in SPMSM is varied by temperature. Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) uses the calculated PM flux linkage, and torque error occurs due to change of PM flux linkage. In the manuscript, estimated PM flux linkage is obtained using a stator flux observer. The torque error is corrected using the estimated PM flux linkage. The proposed algorithm is implemented and verified in simulation and experiment.

  • Power Quality Compensator(PQC) has been installed to protect the sensitive loads against the voltage disturbances, such as voltage sag and interruption. In general, static switch is used for the purpose of link between utility and PQC. So transfer operation of the static switch play a important part in the PQC. Many studies on the structure and control of PQC have been progressed in active, but these researches have been rarely mentioned about any voltage-disturbances-detection method to start the PQC operation. In this paper, a new voltage-disturbances-detection algorithm for computer application loads using the CBEMA/ITIC curve is proposed for transfer operation of the static switch. The proposed detection algorithm is implemented to get fast detecting time through the comparison of instantaneous 3-phase voltage values transferred to DC values in the synchronous reference frame with the operating reference values. To get the robust characteristics against the noise, a first order digital filter is designed. The magnitude falling and phase delay caused by the filter are compensated through the error normalizing and numerical analysis using transfer function, respectively. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm is proved by ACSL simulation and experimental results.

  • A series active power filter compensating current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages in a 3phase-3wire power system is presented. The system is composed of series active power filter and shunt passive filters that are tuned at 5th and 7th harmonics. The proposed series active power filter improves harmonic compensation characteristics of the shunt passive filters, reduces source side harmonic currents and compensates the unbalanced source voltages. In the proposed algorithm, compensation voltage for harmonic reduction is calculated by a performance function, and compensation voltage for the unbalanced source voltage is calculated based on the synchronous reference frame. Some results obtained from the experimental model using the proposed method are Presented to demonstrate and confirm its validity.
