In an attempt to promote reading among middle school students which has been declining sharply, this study suggests new directions for reading education in school libraries. The study examined the following: correlation between students' attitudes toward reading and their reading achievements as revealed in PISA 2009, nationwide survey results on reading, and studies on attitudes and motives for reading. Korean students' reading achievement is very high among the OECD countries but their reading attitude is not positive enough. The strong positive relationship between pleasure reading and reading achievement indicates the importance of the provision of ample collections at school libraries as well as library programs fostering independent, free-will reading. Reading programs at school libraries should cater to students' individual characteristics and needs, such as their sex, abilities, affective and cognitive attitudes, experiences, as well as the quantity, the formats, and the time of their reading, etc.

This study was carried out to survey and analyze the actual state of reading in Goyang citizens, and to utilize it as a base data for Goyang City's 2nd 'Reading Culture Promotion Plan'. To do this, including references related to reading survey and the 2021 National Reading Survey questionnaire survey questions, the questionnaires that reflected characteristics of adult and student respondents constructed. Then, the survey of 960 adults and 540 students in Goyang City conducted and analyzed the results, and several useful suggestions deduced for 'Goyang City Reading Culture Promotion Plan'. First, the category of reading materials have to be expanded from the paper media to the various media. Second, the expandation of collections in libraries and the services that will help actually buy books are necessary. Third, various reading programs should develop, and the opportunities for citizens to participate in reading and club activities through online should also be increased. Fourth, the facilities and service environments for activating reading should ensure that the accessibility of everyday life. Finally, among the existing reading culture promotion projects, the 'smart libraries', 'Inter-library loan services', 'reading and cultural programs management', and 'Goyang Book Pay' projects need to be sustained and expanded. This study is significant in that it has investigated the actual reading situation of real citizens and has converged the opinions necessary for setting the direction of the effective 'Goyang City reading culture promotion plan'.

This study is aimed at analyzing the achievement criteria of cross-curricular Learning themes that can be linked to curriculums, and developing and applying the career reading programs focusing on the school library. For these purposes, first, a class model was designed in connection with reading education programs through cross-curricular Learning themes of 2015 revised curriculum. Second, the career reading classes in the areas of self-understanding, career exploration and career design have been held through a career reading class model for 137 middle school students in 5 classes for one semester. Third, the data to evaluate the career reading for the analysis of the study was constructed, and the qualitative study was conducted through of anecdotal records, multilateral observation on checklists and the analysis of action research. Lastly but not least, the materials regarding the list of books focusing on the career reading storytelling and the career mentor in a type of interests were presented, and the career reading education activities at the school field were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to develop a guideline for user based collection development of the military library. A questionnaire survey of 1,000 soldiers of armed forces selected from two military divisions was conducted. The survey results show the needs for the sufficient collections with diverse subject areas. current materials. and Periodicals. and also suggestion of the programs for encouraging soldiers to read.

The purpose of the study is to suggest a conceptual framework for the vacation reading programs in promoting children's love of reading in public libraries. Within the conceptual framework of free voluntary reading (FVR), the study identified the concept of reading that public libraries should pursue in developing children's reading programs and analyzed current vacation reading programs that four public libraries in Seoul held during winter and summer vacations of 2013. More specifically, the study analyzed (1) their purposes, (2) durations, targeted children groups, the number of children users, (3) their instructors, (4) the content design of the programs, (5) selected books, and (6) completion certificates and rewards for participation. Lastly, the study discussed whether the programs satisfied the characteristics for promoting free voluntary reading and played the roles for vacation reading programs in public libraries. The results of the study suggest the need for shifting the current vacation reading programs to be more inclusive, so that more children can develop to learn love of reading.

This study is to produce baseline data, in its purpose of improving the quality of life of industrial workers as well as the business competitiveness, though improvements in reading culture. The data produced in this study will be based on questionnaire, regarding sub-topics of the reading environment, the status of reading culture, and remaining demands. The results argue that the responding workers in Siheung Smart Hub Complex had inadequate environment of reading, while had weak status of reading culture. We propose the ways of improvements in the reading culture of the worker in Siheung Smart Hub Complex, as well as their reading infrastructure.

This study looks at the reading related qualifications that examine the issues into the curriculum of reading-related qualifications specifically. The results of analysis, 278 reading related qualifications are both operated by the private non-accredited. And reading related qualifications system was required the effort and systematic enhancement of the quality management system of education information. On the basis of the survey, It is proposed operational plans for the quality of reading-related qualifications by cooperation of the private and government that are utilized as a reference in the promotion policy.

The purpose of this study is to determine factors affecting text difficulty and to model objective formulas which measure readability scores. Some readability-related factors such as total number of letters, total number of syllables, total number of unique syllables, total number of sentences and total number of paragraphs were found through correlation analysis. Some regression equations with these factors as their variables were produced through regression analysis. A model estimating readability score from total number of unique syllables was a good formula, while a model with two factors, total number of unique syllables and new syllable occurrence ratio, was a better enhanced one. The readability score represents detailed level so we can recommend students read texts corresponding to their reading levels.

Public libraries and the Library & Information Sciences departments at Korean universities are increasingly interested in the application of a variety of bibliotherapy methods. Bibliotherapy serves as a therapy to understand a client and participants basic material sources and the effects of that particular treatment (necessary for program verification of psychological tools utilized). Its design is based both on literature selection and employed activities tools. Currently, bibliotherapy has been used mainly as a method to understand and diagnose a client and participants using simple and uniform questions. The development of appropriate and, possibly, additional assessment tools and report forms required for bibliotherapy evaluations in this study will be applied to actual case scenarios to determine the validity of this program and/or tools.
