A Study on Reading Movement and Readers' Interest in the Period of 2000's (2000년대 독서운동과 독서경향 연구)

  • This research purpose to investigate aspect of reading movement and readers' interest in the period of 2000's, This is succession research that is the Japanese Occupation Period, after release, the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s. Through such series, namly, reading phenomenon analyzing comparison, is to find present address of reading popularization movement and reading education. In main discourse, First, investigated reading movement, in the period of 2000's(1. the reading movement of library and public institution, 2. the reading movement of bookstore and medium, and several organization's, 3. student reading movement and school reading education). Second, readers' interest observed in the period of 2000's.(1. ordinary readers' interest, 2. student readers' interest). If we correct judgment about reading phenomenon from now. It will be foundation that unfold reading education more effectively.

  • A public reading campaign is a sociocultural movement that can stimulate a sense of community. The 'One Book, One City' reading campaign, as a typical public reading campaign, was established as a new reading paradigm by sharing cultural experiences among community residents through discussions after reading 'one book,' thus evoking a sense of community. This study focuses on the 'One Book, SeongBuk' reading campaign in Seongbuk-Gu, Seoul, which was awarded the title of '2012 Year of Reading' program. In line with this, this study examines the theoretical background of the public reading campaign, looks into the background and contents of the 'One Book, SeongBuk' reading campaign in Seongbuk-Gu, and analyzes and pinpoints the factors that influence the campaign. By so doing, this study aims at enhancing our understanding of the public reading campaign.

  • China's reading campaign has started as part of youth education since 1993 and also has been conducted as government-level 'national reading activities' since 2006. This study was conducted to investigate and analyzed China's reading campaign as part of overseas case study of reading campaign, based on literature studies and internet survey method as well as meta study. As regard reading status, Chinese people's reasons to read or not to read books plus reading rate and reading amount were reviewed and the background, operation style and major activities of 'national reading activities' were investigated. The characteristics and problems of China's reading campaign were reviewed and 1) national level reading campaign, 2) intensive reading campaign through common subject and 3) youth reading education for self-education and character development were put forth for the betterment of reading campaign in Korea.

  • This research allows purpose to investigate aspect of reading movement and reading education in the early period of the 1990's. This is succession research that is the Japanese Occupation Period, after release, the 1950's, the 1960's, the 1970's, the 1980's reading popularization movement research as current trend of opinion to examine modern reading popularization movement. Such series research that reading phenomenon analyzing comparison, is to find present address of reading movement and reading education. accordingly all sorts correct judgment about reading phenomenon, hereafter that will be foundation that unfold reading education more effectively. In main discourse first, investigated, reading movement, and second, observed classifying distinguish reading of student from reading of ordinary people by readers' interest etc.

  • This study explored 'One Book, One City' projects which are being spread in Korea, with the perspective to broaden the horizon of 'Library Movement' and 'Reading Campaign' of Korea. 'One Book, One City' projects have been spread in North America during recent years, and they are reported as successful reading campaign in many communities, Many Korean cities are promoting 'One Book, One City' project diversely. This study examined the meaning and value of the projects, and analyzed the present situation of the projects which are being propelled in some cities of Korea. Finally, this study looked into the special features of Korean 'One Book, One City' projects and provided some suggestions for the ways or strategies to develop the 'One Book, One City projects. which are appropriate for the Korean society.

  • In this study, examined are the characteristics of 'One Book, One City' reading campaigns conducted in Seattle. Chicago, and 'The Big Read', a nationwide 'One Book' campaign, supported by the NEA, in the U.S.A. and Seoul and Cheongju in Korea. Some differences as well as similarities were found in the goal setting, selection of books, strategies for reading and discussion, and programs of these 'One Book' reading campaigns. While, as a mass reading event, 'One Book' reading campaigns in various communities share the goal of promoting literacy and communication through reading and discussion, each 'One Book' campaign seems to show uniqueness in the criteria of book selection, reading and discussion guides, and the activities and Programs. which make up cultural contents.

  • This research allows purpose to illuminate Reading Popularization Movement and readers' interest in the 1960's. This period, there were scientific and national interests about 'Reading' as culture from society whole as well as on public education situation. This research describes reading and phenomenons of reading education on the basis of newspaper data mainly in the 1960's, observed formation process of kind of 'Reading society' in sociological side. Detailed research contents as following same. First, it was studied readers' interest, 1) general readers' interest, 2) student readers' interest.   • This research is a case study of 'Seattle Reads', which launched in 1998 and has become the prototype of 'One Book, One City' Community Reading Promotion Campaign. The purpose of this research is to comprehend further the current state and future goals of 'Seattle Reads' as a typical 'One Book' program by documenting the characteristics of the 'One Book's selected for the past 25 years and their related events and activities. 'Seattle Reads' presented the model of 'One Book' program, which consists of the selection of 'One Book' for adult readers, its reading and discussion, and a variety of events and activities in the community. This analysis of 'Seattle Reads' demonstrates the continuity, consistency, self-reliance, and independence of a 'One Book' program, by reading and talking about 'One Book' by authors with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and trying to understand and integrate differences among people in the community.

  • The purpose of this research is to describe the characteristics of "One Book, One Community" reading promotion campaigns in which universities are involved in the U. S. A. Many universities and colleges in various communities participate in "One Book" campaigns in communities as leaders or partners, and promote reading for students on campus through either "One Book, One Campus" or "common reading programs." Universities can contribute a lot to "One Book" campaigns in communities by providing library collection, human resources, and facilities, and especially coordinating programs and events which require subject specialties. Also, they can promote the significance of reading literary classics. "Common reading programs" help freshmen easily adjust to campus life and build the sense of belonging to the "academic community" by reading the same book and talking about it with other members of universities.
