Effects of Background Depth Information on the Judgment of Two-dimensional Shapes (배경 깊이정보가 이차원 자극의 형태 판단에 미치는 영향)

  • Two experiments were performed to investigate effects of background depth information on the judgment of two-dimensional shapes, using the Posner et al.'s(1969) physical match task. In both experiments, the focus was on whether the background depth information affects the decisions of physical shape sameness of two letters or figures presented successively. In Experiment 1, artificially constructed rues of linear perspective and texture gradient were used, whereas cues contained in a real road situation were used in Experiment 2. The results of both experiments showed that the depth cues affect the perception of two-dimensional shapes. That is, when two stimuli of the same physical shape were likely to be perceived differently due to the given depth cues, response accuracies('yet' in this case) decreased and reaction tines of physical match increased. And when two stimuli of the different physical shape were likely to be perceived the same due to the given depth cues, response accuracies('no' in this case) decreased and reaction times of physical match increased likewise. These results wert discussed in terms of some conceptual methodological problems of the previous studies on the shape constancy and the directions of future research.

A Survey on the Spatial Sense Ability of Elementary School Students -Focusing on Fourth to Sixth Graders- (초등학생들의 공간 감각 실태 조사 -4,5,6학년을 중심으로-)

  • The study aims to extract the framework of sub-factors of spatial sense, to develop test instruments based on the framework to investigate the actual spatial sense ability of fourth to sixth graders in elementary school and to analyze the results. According to the framework of sub-factors of spatial sense of the study, spatial sense has two factors of spatial visualization and spatial orientation. Spatial visualization is divided into mental rotation, mental transformation and figure-ground perception while spatial orientation is categorized into direction sense, distance sense, and location sense. Based on the framework, the test instrument for spatial sense ability was developed and the test was conducted to 430 fourth to sixth students in five elementary schools in capital areas. The following conclusions were drawn from the results obtained in the study. Firstly, the higher school year gets, the more spatial sense grows. However, spatial visualization is developed much more than spatial orientation and their order is reversed with higher graders. Secondly, the most insufficient abilities among fourth to sixth elementary school students' spatial sense were mental transformation of spatial visualization and location sense of spatial orientation. Thirdly, the reasons of differences in sub-factors of spatial sense and graders seem to be from effects of students' learning experiences of spatial sense of mathematics curriculum and the complexities of test items.

A Comparative Study of Sensory Processing Abilities and Visual Perception Skills in Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Typical Children (ADHD 아동과 일반 아동의 감각처리능력과 시지각 기술의 비교 연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences in sensory processing and visual perception between school-age children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and typical children. Methods : The participants in this research were children in the first and second grade in elementary school in Kyoung-Nam Region; 25 children diagnosed with ADHD comprised the experimental group, and 51 typical children comprised the control group. To evaluate the sensory processing of the children, the Sensory Profile (SP) was used, and the Korean Developmental Test of Visual Perception-2 (K-DTVP-2) was used to assess visual perception skills. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0, and the Independent t-test was used to compare the sensory processing and visual perception skills of the two groups. Results : The study found differences in the Sensory Profile summary scores and factor summary scores between the two groups (p<.05). We also found differences in the visual perception index and subtest standard scores between the two groups (p<.05). Conclusion : The results of this study show that the experimental and the control groups had significant differences in sensory processing and visual perception skills. The result will contribute to the assessment and education of children with ADHD.

Geochemistry and Tectonic Implications of Triassic Bojangsan Trachyte in the Southern Margin of the Imjingang Belt, Korea (임진강대 남변부 트라이아스기 보장산조면암의 지구화학과 조구조적 의미)

  • We investigates geochemical and tectonic characteristics for the Triassic Bojangsan trachyte in the southern margin of the Imjingang belt. The geochemical signatures of the thracyte are characterized by enrichments of REE and HFS, and show no Nb trough, suggesting that would not experience arc magmatic processes involving continental crustal materials. The trachyte reveals within-plate setting in tectonic discrimination diagrams using immobile HFS Nb and Y elements. And the trachyte shows typical signatures of A-type volcanic rocks with high Ga abundance and is classified as A1-type volcanic rocks rich in Nb. The geochemical signatures suggest that the trachyte was produced by the differentiation of mantle-derived magmatism at the continental rift in extensional setting subsequent to a major collision during the Permo-Triassic Songrim orogeny. The results provide robust evodence to consider the Imjingang belt as an extension of the the Qinling-Dabie-Sulu belt between the North and South China blocks.
