  • Achillea alpina L. subsp. pulchra (Koidz.) Kitam., an unrecorded subspecies belonging to the genus Achillea of Asteraceae, was discovered and is illustrated here. It is known as an endemic species of Hokkaido, Japan, but we discovered it along the seashore at Uljin in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. Having a relatively equally serrate or dentate leaf margin and sparsely villous involucres, this subspecies is easily distinguished from its related taxa. Based on its habitat, it was termed Gaet-top-pul in Korean. We provide a description, illustrations, photographs and a key of related taxa in Korea.

  • An unrecorded species of Oldenlandia brachypoda DC. is newly reported from Seogwipo-si, Jejudo, This species is distinguished from Oldenlandia diffusa, the related taxa by the surface and length of the pedicel, the number of flowerd, the shape of the calyx and capsule. The new Korean name 'je-ju-baeg-un-pul', was given considering the collect locality. The illustration, description and key of characters are provided.

  • Five species of the genus Aulacaspis (Sternorrhyncha, Diaspididae) from Korea were redescribed and illustrated for the morphological characters of adult females with the information of known host plants. Among them, Aulacaspis spinosa (Maskell, 1897) is reported for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. A key to species is given for the adult females.

  • This is a report of an unrecorded species of Hedyotis from Korea, Hedyotis chrysotricha (Palib.) Merr., found in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. The species can be distinguished from other Hedyotis species by trichomes that cover the entire plant, ovate leaves, mauve or white corolla, and the corolla lobe of which the length measures more than twice its width. The species was named after its findspot and is hence called 'Yeongam-pul.' An illustration, description and key to the taxa related to Hedyotis are provided.

  • As a recent infrageneric classification of Juncus (Juncaceae), Kirschner suggested two subgenera which are distinguished by the type of inflorescence and the absence/presence of bracteole along with 10 sections which are distinguished by the characters of the leaves, the position of the inflorescence, and types of stamens and seeds. However, an intensive morphological investigation on Korean Juncus has yet to be performed. We surveyed the morphological characters of 14 taxa distributed throughout the Korean peninsula, including one North Korean taxon. The quantitative and qualitative characters of rhizomes, leaves, inflorescences, flowers, fruits, and seeds were investigated on each taxon using about 950 specimens of Korean Juncus on loan from major Korean herbaria. As a result, we provide diagnostic characters with illustrations and a key to Korean Juncus.
