Catalytic Hydrogen Transfer Reduction of Aromatic Nitro Compounds with 4-Vinylcyclohexene (4-비닐시클로헥센을 이용한 방향족 니트로 화합물의 환원반응)

  • Most of the aromatic nitro compounds were reduced to amines in high yield by transfer of hydrogen from 4-vinyl cyclohexene to the substrate via palladium catalyst. The usefulness of the method is not affected by the presence of a variety of other functional groups such as -OH, $-OCH_3$, $-CH_3$, $-CO_2H$, and -Cl, except for halogen which is removed during hydrogenation. The reduction of ortho-substituted nitrobenzene such as o-nitrotoluene, o-nitrophenol, o-nitroanisole was slower than the para isomer. Typically, the nitro compound is refluxed in ethanol with a large exess of 4-vinylcyclohexene in the presence of Pd-C catalyst. Under the above conditions, p-nitrobenzaldehyde, p-nitrobenzyl alcohol, and p-nitrobenzyl acetate were reduced to p-toluidine.

  • A wide variety of unsaturated vinyl derivatives can be induced to undergo free-radical chain polymerization. The capability to carry out a thermodynamically feasible polymerization relies on its kinetic feasibility on whether the proceeds at a reasonable rate under a given set of reaction conditions. Initiator or promoter is often required to achieve the kinetic feasibility. Only a few unsaturated monomers including methyl methacrylate(MMA) are known to absorb light between 250 and 500 nm which is the most convenient wavelength range. Also, the polysilanes with unusual optical and electronic properties have been used as ceramic precursors, deep UV photoresists, photoconductors. The hydrosilation has been used to make many interesting types of silicon containing polymers such as copolymer, dendrimers. Bulk polymerization of monomers with different molar radio of hydrosilanes(9:1 through 1:9) were performed. A quartz test tube charged with monomer and hydrosilane was degassed and irradiated with 250 nm UV for 6 hours. The polymer was taken in toluene, precipitated in hexane, filtered off, and dried. It was found that the initiators appeared to competitively and concurrently function as both chain initiation and transfer agents in the polymerization of vinyl monomers.

Byproducts formation during hydrothermal pretreatment of spent mushroom substrate and effects onto biogas production efficiency (버섯 폐배지의 수열전처리 과정 중 중간산물 생성이 바이오가스 수율에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, spent mushroom substrate (SMS), which consits of lignocellulosic material, was pretreated by hydrothermal method; the changes of biodegradability and methane production yield of pretreated SMS were determined according to formation of lignocellulosic biomass degrading byproducts formation during thermal pretreatment. Based on the results, all hydrothermal pretreatment temperatures showed improved solubilization performance for biomass, and the optimum pretreatment effect was observed at an pretreatment temperature of 150℃ with the highest methane production yield. However, the induced formation of furan derivatives (i.e., 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and furfural) as byproducts during hydrolysis of hemicellulose and cellulose at severe condition lowered biodegradability and methane yield when the hydrothermal pretreatment temperature was higher than 180℃. Thus, this study revealed that hydrothermal pretreatment could promote anaerobic digestion efficiency of lignocellulosic biomass and is of great importance for preventing byproducts formation through pretreatment condition control.

Chemical and Functional Characteristics of Mechanically Deboned Chicken meat and its Utilization in Processed Meat (기계발골가금육의 특성 및 이용에 관한 연구)

  • Hand deboned and mechanically deboned chicken meat were produced from domestic broilers and spent layers. Meat yield, chemical composition, functional characteristics, stability during storage, and microbiological properties were investigated Chicken patties and frankfurters were also manufactured by varying the relative proportion of MDCM to HDCM as raw materials, ana their palatability, shelf-life and textural properties were evaluated. The obtained results were as follows: 1) 35% of carcass wt was recovered as HDCM and 45% as MDCM, total meat yield reaching 80% of carcass wt. 2) Moisture, protein, fat, ash and Ca content of MDCM were 65, 12, 20, 1.7 and 0.2-0.4%,respectively. MDCM was higher in fat, ash and Ca, but significantly lower in moisture and protein. Total pigment content of MDCM was 2.5 times higher than that of HDCD such high content being attributed to the increased inclusion of hemoglobin. 3) The emulsifying capacity (ES) of MOCM per g meat was only 70% that of HDCM. but when ES was expressed on unit g of protein basis MDCM showed even higher ES than HDCM primarily due to tile higher proportion of salt soluble protein fraction. 4) Since the TBA values of MDCM increased rapidly after 4 weeks of frozen storage at -20$^{\circ}C$, the maximum possible storage period of MDCM is estimated to be about 4 weeks. 5) Total microbial counts of MDCM was approximately 1.8${\times}$10$\^$6/g/, showing no great difference from HDCM or red meat. 6) Chicken patty containing MDCM showed gradual increase in TBA value during frozen storage, but its storage up to 8 weeks presented no problems in flavor stability. 7) Color score an4 total palatability of chicken Patty were best for the product containing 30% MDCM. It was also concluded that MDCM can be included in the patties up to 50% of total meat with good results, but more than 70% was not recommended 8) The formulation of MDCM up to 50% in frankfurter gave quite satisfactory acceptability and textural properties comparable to frankfurter made of 100% MDCM, but the inclusion of more than 70% MDCM was not recommended 9) The TBA value of frankfurter containing MDCM did not increase to any great extent until 4 weeks of storage at 4$^{\circ}C$, indicating no unique problems in flavor instability compared to regular frankfurter. 10) It was concluded that processed meat products such as patties and frankfurters containing MDCM up to 30-50% of total meat ingredients gave satisfactory results in color, texture and palatability, comparable to regular products.

Characterization Method for Testing Circuit Patterns on MCM/PCB Modules with Electron Beams of a Scanning Electron Microscope (MCM/PCB 회로패턴 검사에서 SEM의 전자빔을 이용한 측정방법)

  • This paper presents a characterization method for faults of circuit patterns on MCM(Multichip Module) or PCB(Printed Circuit Board) substrates with electron beams of a SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) by inducing voltage contrast on the signal line. The experimentation employes dual potential electron beams for the fault characterization of circuit patterns with a commercial SEM without modifying its structure. The testing procedure utilizes only one electron gun for the generation of dual potential electron beams by two different accelerating voltages, one for charging electron beam which introduces the yield of secondary electron $\delta$ < 1 and the other for reading beam which introduces $\delta$ > 1. Reading beam can read open's/short's of a specific net among many test nets, simultaneously discharging during the reading process for the next step, by removing its voltage contrast. The experimental results of testing the copper signal lines on glass-epoxy substrates showed that the state of open's/short's had generated the brightness contrast due to the voltage contrast on the surface of copper conductor line, when the net had charged with charging electron beams of 7KV accelerating voltages and then read with scanning reading electron beams of 2KV accelerating voltages in 10 seconds. The experimental results with Au pads of a IC die and Au plated Cu pads of BGA substrates provided the simple test method of circuit lines with 7KV charging electron beam and 2KV reading beam. Thus the characterization method showed that we can test open and short circuits of the net nondestructively by using dual potential electron beams with one SEM gun.

Efficient Cyclization of Substituted Diphenols : Application to the Synthesis of Sulforhodamine B (치환 다이페놀의 효율적 고리화 반응: 설퍼로다민B의 합성에의 응용)

  • Rhodamine dyes are widely used as fluorescent probes because of their excellent photophysical properties, such as high extinction coefficients, excellent quantum yields, great photostability, relatively long emission wavelengths. A great synthetic effort has been focused on developing efficient and practical procedures to prepare rhodamine derivatives, because for most applications the probe must be covalently linked to another (bio)molecule or surface. Sulforhodamine B is one of the most used rhodamine dyes for this purpose, because it carries two sulfoxy functions which can be easily utilized for binding with other molecules. Recently, we needed an expedient, practical synthesis of sulforhodamine derivatives. We found the existing procedure for obtaining those compounds unsatisfactory, particularly, with the cyclization process of the dihydroxytriarylmethane (1) to produce the corresponding xanthene derivative (2). We report here our findings, which represent modification of the existing literature procedure and provide access to the corresponding xanthene derivative (2) in a high yield. Use of methanol as a co-solvent was found quite effective to prohibit the water molecule produced during the cyclization reaction from retro-cyclizing back to the starting dihydroxytriarylmethane and the yield of the cyclization was increased (up to 84% from less than 20%). The reaction temperature was significantly lowered (80 vs. 135 ℃). Thus, the reaction proceeds in a higher yield and energy-saving manner where the use of reactants and the production of chemical wastes is minimized.

Chemical Composition and Biological Feed Value of Autoclaved Poultry By-products for Poultry (가압열처리한 도계부산물의 화학적 조성과 닭에 대한 생물학적 사료가치)

  • In order to obtain the basic information needed to utilize poultry by-products as feed resources, the yielding ratio, chemical composition and nutrient bioavailability of 5 offal components such as autoclaved head, feet, viscera, blood and feathers were investigated. Yielding ratios of head, feet, viscera, blood and feathers were 2.93% 4.78%, 10.98%, 3.91% and 4.83%, respectively. The crude protein contents of feathers (86.71%) and blood (82.99%) were higher than those of viscera (64.67%), feet (58.76%) and head (49.51%) , Inversely, the crude fat contents of blood (6.96%) and feathers (2.96%) were lower than those of head (26.19%), viscera (23.96%) and feet (13.73%). The crude ash contents of feet (21.69%) and head (20.38%) were higher than those of other by-products (0.96∼8.62%). The macro-mineral contents of head and feet were higher than those of other components, and the iron content of blood was higher than the other by-products. The total amino acid contents of poultry by-products showed the same trend as the crude protein contents. In addition, the Iysine content of feathers was very low compared to its high protein content. The essential amino acid contents of feathers were poorer than those of other offal components. Among the 5 offal components, the feathers showed the poorest amino acid availabilities. The ME contents were highest in viscera, and head, blood, feathers and feet. in decreasing order.

  • Recently, encapsulation studies have been tarried out to protect active agents using shell materials such as polymers, lipids, inorganic materials and the other protective materials. We have prepared copolymers of methylmethacrylate (MMA) and trimethoxysilylpropylmethacrylate (TMPMA), and the copolymers as shell materials were used for encapsulating active agents. Poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) spheres were very efficient for encapsulating active agents such as vitamin derivatives (such as retinol, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate) and oil soluble licorice extract etc. Mean diameters of poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) core-shell spheres containing active agents varied between about 0.1 to $10{\mu}m$ according to the experimental conditions. The loading amount of encapsulating active agents was 15 to 25% (w/w) and the loading yield was above 90%. The stability of active agents in poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) core-shell spheres prepared with an UV absorbing precursor increased by 25% compared with that of active agents in spheres prepared without an UV absorbing precursor.

  • Hand deboned and mechanically deboned chicken meat were produced from domestic broilers and spent layers. The results obtained were as follows: 1. 35% of carcass freight was recovered primarily as hand deboned chicken meat (HDM) and 45% secondarily as mechanically deboned chicken meat(MDM), total meat yield reaching 80% of carcass weight. 2. Moisture, protein, fat. ash and calcium content of MDM were 65, 12, 20, 1.7 and $0.2{\sim}0.4%$, respectively MDM was higher than HDM in fat, ash and calcium, but significantly lower in moisture and protein Total pigment content of MDM was 2.5 times higher than that of HDM, such high content being attributed to the increased inclusion of hemoglobin during the mechanical masceration of carcass in the deboning process. 3. The emulsifying capacity (ES) of MDM per g meat was only 70% that of HDM, but when ES was expressed on unit g of protein basis MDM showed even higher ES than HDM primarily due to the higher proportion of salt soluble protein fraction of MDM. 4.
