Evaluation of the Staggering Appointment Policy in a Two-Stage Service System (두 단계 서비스 시스템에서 교차예약정책의 평가)

  • The appointment system is widely used to facilitate customer access to service in many industries including healthcare and others. Because of its importance, much research has investigated how to build an effective appointment policy under various environments. However, most research has considered a single-server service system. The objective of this work is to evaluate several appointment policies in a two-stage service system in which multiple servers are available and build separate appointments at the second-stage. In such a system, we propose and evaluate the staggering appointment policy. Simulation experiments indicate that the proposed staggering appointment policy outperforms other traditional appointment policies in terms of customer waiting time, server idle time, and the number of customers who are later to scheduled appointments.

Analysis of City Traffic Infrastructure for Chuncheon Legoland (춘천 레고랜드를 대비한 시내 교통 기반 분석)

  • Chuncheon city is constructing a world-wide famous theme park, Chuncheon Legoland. In this study, analysis of the city traffic infrastructure for Chuncheon Legoland has been performed. We first reviewed the current city traffic condition with regard to the park. We then defined potential customers and arrivals, streets, and routing street sequences to the park. Based on a measure, occupation ratio, reflecting traffic condition we designed experiments for analysis and obtained results from simulation. Our results indicate that severe traffic delay is expected during the peak season and is significant especially in streets 9,11,16. We performed additional experiments with increasing the number of lanes of them and obtained improved results.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of D-channel access protocol at the S-reference point for the ISDN user network interface recommended by CCITT. For the case of multipoint access to D-channel, a queueing model of D-channel access protocol is proposed. The delay is analyzed by decomposing it into waiting queue delay and contention delay. The contention delay is decomposed further into vain contention delay and pure contention delay so the analysis of the priority queueing system with symmetrical and asymmetrical arrival rates may be applied. The numerical results obtained are compared with the results of the single station queueing system served by the non-preemptive priority.

  • The contact procedure of access channel necessary to set up the originating call has a close relation with the performance and capacity of the base station system in CDMA cellular network. This paper investigates the structure and the operation of the backward channel of IS-95 CDMA standard and explains the related system parameters. We can derive the throughput of the CDMA access channel depending on the arrivals of the access probes per access channel slot, given the system parameters such as cell radius, the maximum number of retransmission, and the error rates of the access and paging channel. It shows that the performance in throughput is much better in the CDMA IS-95 access channel than in the slotted aloha channel. It also gives the reasonable number of the trafic channels in a cell with the given blocking probability.

  • Recently, we could witness research works on the development of mobile harbor. In line with the implementation of the physical entity for the mobile harbor system, there exists a need for the development of the service management system for the mobile harbor. In this work we propose a framework for the mobile harbor service management system. To that purpose, we first define the principle for the operation of the mobile harbor service management system. Also we develop the mobile harbor service management system by simulation. Finally, we illustrate the implication of the research by experiments.

  • As the usage of mobile stations increases thanks to various services, power saving mechanisms of mobile station operated by battery power have been gained much attention. This paper presents a power saving mechanism(PSM) of IEEE 802.16m, called Mobile WiMAX, for 4G mobile technology. This paper first presents different points of the PSM of IEEE 802.16m from IEEE 802.16e, which is a basis of IEEE 802.16m. This paper proposes a dynamic sleep cycle adjustment algorithm for improving the performance of IEEE 802.16m PSM by considering the arrival pattern of incoming packets from base station. Performance of the algorithm is analyzed in terms of energy consumption as well as waiting time of packets.

  • Due to the advancement of mobile wireless networks, various LBS's (Location Based Service) with the knowledge of mobile station's current position are emerging. Providing LBS is very essential feature in Mobile WiMAX networks such as WiBro networks for their competitiveness. To this end, WiMAX Forum has established recently the network architecture and protocols for providing LBS and they are included in the Network working group's release 1.5 documents. Though there have been many research efforts on location determination in Wibro networks, none of them addresses the location determination mechanism complying to Forum's recent LBS standards. This paper proposes an enhanced TDOA-RTD combined location determination mechanism, which complies to the Forum's LBS architecture.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of an optical line termination system in ATM based Passive Optical Network(PON) using the operational analysis. We analyze it using system parameters such as utilization, throughput and routing frequency based on the buffer structure in each block of ATM-PON. Furthermore, we derive the mean response time and the visit ratio of each block, and then search the bottleneck block that hinders the system performance. We found that the 622Mbps 16x16 switching block is the bottleneck block for ATM-PON. In this bottleneck block, the loss probability increases rapidly when the cell arrival rate increases.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient and simple fair queueing algorithm, called Minimum Possible Virtual Start Time Fair Queueing (MPSFQ), which has O(1) complexity for the virtual time computation while it has good delay and fairness properties. The key idea of MPSFQ is that it has an easy system virtual time recalibration method while it follows a rate-proportional property. MPSFQ algorithm recalibrates system virtual time to the minimum possible virtual start time of all backlogged sessions. We will show our algorithm has good delay and fairness properties by analysis.

  • This paper suggests an instruction code sufficiency algorithm preventing data collision when multiple transponders attempt to connect in the radio frequency identification system. Conventional time domain procedure generates unconditional collision. On the other hand, this algorithm prevents data collision by transmitting data when it meets instruction code. When multiple transponders are transmitting data coincidently, they exploit desired data with using difference of arrival time generated by recognition distance, respectively. As a result of simulation, utilizing the wireless recognition system, adopting the suggested algorithm, operating in 13.56MHz frequency band, it verify that there is Anti-collision and data loss by ensuring transmission time difference of one bit by adopting this algorithm.
