  • The purpose of this study is to review the influence of 3D printing technology on the formability and artistic value of ceramic works through a theoretical review of 3D printing technology and a case study of ceramic works that incorporate them creatively. Thus, the following conclusions were drawn from the analysis of the ceramic works of seven artists and two design teams. First, digital production that incorporates 3D printing technology into works can be applied to data applications and changes, unlike the existing manual methods, and the artist's unique creative artwork is possible. Second, a new paradigm has emerged that expresses the new material, method, advanced digital technology, and more stereoscopic and colorful sculptures out of the traditional ceramic concepts. In the future, I hope to find new methodology that meets the developing digital technology through continuous research and utilization of 3D printing and realizing new value of ceramic design.

  • Porous ceramics are used in various industrial applications based on their physical properties, including isolation, storage, and thermal barrier properties. However, traditional manufacturing environments require additional steps to control artificial pores and limit deformities, because they rely on limited molding methods. To overcome this drawback, many studies have recently focused on fabricating porous structures using additive manufacturing techniques. In particular, the binder jet technology enables high porosity and various types of designs, and avoids the limitations of existing manufacturing processes. In this study, we investigated process optimization for manufacturing porous ceramic filters using the binder jet technology. In binder jet technology, the flowability of the powder used as the base material is an important factor, as well as compatibility with the binder in the process and for the final print. Flow agents and secondary binders were used to optimize the flowability and compatibility of the powders. In addition, the effects of the amount of added glass frit, and changes in sintering temperature on the microstructure, porosity and mechanical properties of the final printed product were investigated.

  • It is necessary to discover Korea's diverse traditional culture and publicize it to the world to continue the Korean Wave and develop it in a more positive direction. The present study proposes methods for publicizing little-known 'traditional Korean ceramic tableware' by focusing on Hansik, which is the most frequently published in the British Oxford Dictionary among Korean traditional cultures and can best represent Korean food. To this end, the present study measured cultural recipients' emotions regarding traditional Korean ceramic tableware to derive the 'representative emotions felt regarding traditional Korean ceramic tableware' as a method to reflect it in the design. First, the Delphi Technique was carried out based on 182 emotional vocabulary items collected from existing studies to create 33 groups of emotional vocabularies with similar concepts. In addition, among the emotional vocabularies included in each of the 33 groups, those of overlapping concepts were regrouped based on the characteristics of traditional Korean ceramic tableware, and the most appropriate emotional vocabularies were extracted and reduced to 75. A survey was carried out with 135 cultural recipients experienced with traditional Korean ceramic tableware to derive 32 representative emotions felt regarding traditional Korean ceramic tableware. Finally, from the results of a factor analysis of 32 representative emotions, this study classified vocabulary into six emotion categories including 'aesthetic, pleasure, freshness, ownership, satisfaction, and comfort'. The six emotion categories and 32 representative emotions derived from this study's results can be utilized to measure emotional levels felt by cultural recipients while using traditional Korean ceramic tableware.

  • The visual representation of plants applied to traditional Korean ceramics is based on the consciousness and sentiment of the Korean people, and one can see the auspicious aspirations and exorcisms that people pursued at that time. These symbolic expressions have been extended in new and colorful meanings through the shapes and decorations of ceramics and their fusion. In this study, the phenomena of convergence expression seen in traditional Korean ceramics are divided into type and type, type and decoration, and their special meaning is analyzed. For this purpose, the shapes and decorations of plants used in traditional Korean pottery are considered based on the literature information. Chapter 2 gives a general analysis of plants that have meanings in their shapes and decorations and introduces their meanings. In Chapter 3, based on the characteristics and meanings of plants, it is divided into shapes and shapes, shapes and decorations, and the convergence of decorations and decorations, and presents newly manifested meanings through their fusions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the historical background and characteristics of pop art style and motif expressions in the works of artists by analyzing the theoretical study of pop art and analyze how the expression characteristics are applied to ceramic works. As a result of the analysis of the work, various images of everyday objects in popular culture are expressed in various ways such as bright and colorful colors, silk screen, lettering, photo montage, cartoon expression, object, collage, decoupage, It is believed that the art of ceramics will be created as a creative work that reinterprets the artistic value rather than reproducing the art based on the technique of pop art. I look forward to the development.

  • Porous ceramics have the advantages of low density, low thermal conductivity, and excellent mechanical properties. Among porous ceramic manufacturing methods, the replica template method allows the easy manufacturing of porous filters with the highest porosity and pores of the desired size, but it also has the disadvantage that the resulting filters have low mechanical strength. To overcome this shortcoming, mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2) whiskers, which have excellent thermal stability and high mechanical strength, were introduced in porous ceramic structure. The mullite whiskers were synthesized using a composition of Al2O3, flyash and MoO3. The morphologies and crystal structures of the mullite whiskers with MoO3 contents were investigated in detail. When the porous ceramic with mullite whiskers was fabricated using 20 wt% MoO3 catalyst the most uniform microstructure was obtained, and the mullite whiskers showed the highest aspect ratio of 47.03. The porosity and compressive strength of the fabricated porous ceramic were 82.12 % and 0.83 MPa, respectively.
