Contaminated Surfaces in an Urban Environment (도시환경에서 방사능오염 표면의 중요도 분석)

  • EMRAS-2 (Environmental Modelling for RAdiation Safety, Phase 2) is an international comparison program, which is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in order to harmonize the modelling of radionuclide behavior in the environment. To do so, the urban contamination working group within EMRAS-2 has designed the hypothetical scenarios for a specified urban area. In this study, the importance of contaminated surfaces composing an urban environment was analyzed in terms of dose rate using METRO-K, which has been developed to take a Korean urban environment into account. The contribution of contaminated surfaces to exposure dose rate showed distinctly a great difference as a function of specified locations and time following a hypothetical event. Moreover, it showed a distinct difference according to the existence of precipitation, and its intensity. Therefore, if an urban area is contaminated radioactively by any unexpected incidents such as an accident of nuclear power plants or an explosion of radioactive dispersion devices (RDDs), appropriate measures should be taken with consideration of the type of surface composing the contaminated environment in order to minimize not only radiation-induced health detriment but also economic and social impacts.

Landuse oriented Water Balance Analysis Method by the Hydrological Model BAGLUVA based on Soil and Vegetation (토양-식생기반의 수문모델 BAGLUVA를 적용한 토지이용별 물수지 분석 방법론)

  • Urban environmental problems such as flooding, depletion of ground water, pollution of urban streams and the heat island effect caused by urban development and climate change can be mitigated by the improvement of the urban water cycle. For the effective planning of water cycle management it is necessary to establish aerial Hydrotope Maps, with which we can estimate the status and change of the water allowance for any site. The structure of the German water balance model BAGLUVA, which is based on soil and vegetation, was analyzed and the input data and boundary condition of the model was compared with Korean data and research results. The BAGLUVA Model consists of 5 Input categories (climate, land use, topography, soil hydrology and irrigation). The structure and interconnection of these categories are analyzed and new concepts and implementation methods of topographic factor, maximum evapotranspiration ratio, effective rooting depth and Bagrov n parameter was compared and analyzed. The relation of real evapotranspiration ($ET_a$)-maximum evapotranspiration ($ET_{max}$) - precipitation (P) was via Bagrov n factor represented. The aerial and land use oriented Hydrotope Map can help us to investigate the water balance of small catchment areas and to set goals for volume of rainwater management and LID facilities effectively in the city. Further, this map is a useful tool for implementing water resource management within landscape and urban planning.

Implications of a Case Analysis of a Public Park Project at a Former Military Facility Site (군사시설 이전부지 공원화 사례분석을 통한 시사점 도출)

  • Because of their nature as public facilities, demands that former military facilities be utilized for the public welfare are increasing, thereby leading to an increase in cases in which these military facilities are reestablished as parks. Cases in which former military bases were reestablished as public parks were analyzed; as a result, several implications were derived. First, the objectives of public park projects should be examined from the perspective of the concept of urban regeneration and regional revitalization. Moreover, it is necessary that profits are yielded and that regional identity and history are reproduced through reusing existing facilities as much as possible rather than entirely remodeling former military sites. As parks become larger in size, bases should be reorganized into complexes rather than single facilities or programs. It is also necessary that parks be established in stages considering the enormous expenses required for building public parks. Consequently, because the special characteristics of military facilities can lead to insufficient on-site investigation in the process of establishing parks, thereby incurring a vast amount of costs for design adjustment and contamination disposal, this should be considered in advance. A method of delegating the development rights to partial sites to private businesses and supplementing the costs of park establishment and maintenance with development benefits should be examined. In addition, given that there are various interests and stakes in former military bases, a method of operating a public-private cooperative decision-making organization during project execution should be considered. Finally, policies related to urban parks need to be improved in order to raise funds, expand profitable businesses, facilitate social services and sponsorship, and encourage the participation of trusts and non-profit organizations in park operation and management.

Analysis of Resident's Satisfaction and Its Determining Factors on Residential Environment: Using Zigbang's Apartment Review Bigdata and Deeplearning-based BERT Model (주거환경에 대한 거주민의 만족도와 영향요인 분석 - 직방 아파트 리뷰 빅데이터와 딥러닝 기반 BERT 모형을 활용하여 - )

  • Satisfaction on the residential environment is a major factor influencing the choice of residence and migration, and is directly related to the quality of life in the city. As online services of real estate increases, people's evaluation on the residential environment can be easily checked and it is possible to analyze their satisfaction and its determining factors based on their evaluation. This means that a larger amount of evaluation can be used more efficiently than previously used methods such as surveys. This study analyzed the residential environment reviews of about 30,000 apartment residents collected from 'Zigbang', an online real estate service in Seoul. The apartment review of Zigbang consists of an evaluation grade on a 5-point scale and the evaluation content directly described by the dweller. At first, this study labeled apartment reviews as positive and negative based on the scores of recommended reviews that include comprehensive evaluation about apartment. Next, to classify them automatically, developed a model by using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(BERT), a deep learning-based natural language processing model. After that, by using SHapley Additive exPlanation(SHAP), extract word tokens that play an important role in the classification of reviews, to derive determining factors of the evaluation of the residential environment. Furthermore, by analyzing related keywords using Word2Vec, priority considerations for improving satisfaction on the residential environment were suggested. This study is meaningful that suggested a model that automatically classifies satisfaction on the residential environment into positive and negative by using apartment review big data and deep learning, which are qualitative evaluation data of residents, so that it's determining factors were derived. The result of analysis can be used as elementary data for improving the satisfaction on the residential environment, and can be used in the future evaluation of the residential environment near the apartment complex, and the design and evaluation of new complexes and infrastructure.

A Study on Improvement of Asphalt Concrete Pavement in Apartment Complex (단지 내 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 설계 개선 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the resonable guideline of asphalt concrete pavements in apartment complex. To achieve this purpose was performed review of domestic and foreign guidelines, investigation of main distresses of asphalt concrete pavement, and structural analysis for the investigated cross-sections of the pavements in apartment complex. According to results of structural analysis, this study presented the standard cross-section of the pavement with subbase of 20cm, asphalt base of 5cm, and surface of 5cm in apartment complex. In urban areas, traffic is generally opened after asphalt base course is placed because of civil complaint by dust. Surface course is placed after all of work are completed. Considering these conditions, this study also presented the standard cross-section of the pavement with subbase of 20cm, asphalt base of 7cm, and surface of 5cm for urban areas that expect civil complaints by dust.

Traffic Modeling and Design of An All-Optical WDM Backbone Network in Korea (한국 실정에 맞는 트래픽 모델링 및 전광 WDM 기간망의 설계)

  • In order to support various multimedia communication services, a well balanced backbone network should be designed using recently advanced optical communication technologies. In this paper an optimal backbone network configuration design is presented fur Korean traffic environment. A new traffic model, Population-Distance-Gross Group Products(PDG) traffic model, is devised. In Korean network traffic environment, six regional centers are selected, link capacities between the regional centers are estimated from the PDG traffic model, and the overall network configuration is designed for the all-optical backbone network in Korea. A simulation study is carried out to verify the desired performance of the designed backbone network. Simulation results show that performance of the backbone network is well balanced to support various communication services in Korea in the 2000s.

  • Extreme rainfall events caused severe damage to human life and property due to the inundation in major urban areas. In particular, the increase in the intensity of rainfall due to climate change causes changes in the design flood discharge. As a result, it causes uncertainty in the design criteria of hydraulic structures. However, quantitative analysis results have not been provided due to the limitations of climate scenarios and the uncertainty in climate changes. Therefore, this research chose Bulgwangcheon basin as the target basin to analysis the discharge considering climate change. As the result, it is necessary to strengthen design standards since the amount of discharge increased by 14.2% even in the near future.

An Investigation for Driving Behavior on the Exit-ramp Terminal in Urban Underground Roads Using a Driving Simulator (주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부 주행행태 분석)

  • Even though driving behaviors in underground roads can be significantly different from ground roads, existing underground roads follow the design guidelines of ground roads. In this context, this study investigates the driving behaviors of the exit-ramp terminal of urban underground roads using a driving simulator. Virtual driving experiments were performed by analyzing scenarios between the underground and ground road environments. The experiments' driving behavior data for each geometry section are compared and validated through a statistical significance test. This test showed that the speed in the underground road environment is relatively low, and the LPM tends to move away from the adjacent tunnel wall. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications and feasible solutions for improving driver's safety in the exit-ramp terminal of the underground roads.

A Study on Urban Noise Visualization using 3D-GIS (3차원 GIS를 활용한 도시소음 시각화에 관한 연구)

  • The noise problem is one of the major problems associated with large cities and is considered important factor not only in maintenance but also in development of cities. Accordingly, the noise map is being increasingly used in city planning and design. However, the existing two-dimensional noise maps only show regional, planar distribution of noise. This study presented a method to build a data model for analyzing and visualizing noise levels at fine scale considering the vertical distribution of noise in a building. By expanding the 2D topology concept used in conventional GIS to 3D, it suggested a 3D GIS data model that makes 3D spatial queries, analyses and visualization possible and applied the proposed approach to building a 3D noise information system. By building and testing the system, the study showed different functionalities including 3D spatial queries and 3D visualization of noise levels varying temporally or according as the height of sound-proof walls. In each case, the population exposed to noise was quantitatively computed to illustrate the potential in the areas of city planning and design.

  • AGT system is a kind of light railway train. AGT system use of concrete track and rubber tire, so it can be reduce the noise and vibration, compare to the normal train system. And, the dynamic responses of normal bridge are influenced by the dynamic characteristics of bridge, the speed of vehicle and the surface roughness of railway. But the AGT system bridge is influenced not only the above facts but also the guiderail unevenness, because, AGT vehicle steered by guiderail. So, in this study, optimized service condition is suggested for the design and operation of AGT system, by the means of experimental study. The experiments are executed for PSC bridge with length of 30m, at the AGT test line in Kyongsan. The test results are compared and investigated according to the prominence. In the test result, the guiderail prominence influenced on the dynamic response of bridge. It shows a increase as compared with no guiderail prominence in the dynamic response value acceleration, displacement, stain.
