A Study on the Improvement of Teacher Librarians' Evaluation Indicators in Korea (교원능력개발평가의 사서교사 평가지표 개선방향에 관한 연구)

  • With the introduction of new teacher evaluation system, teacher librarians' evaluation indicators and questions were presented for the first time. The purpose of this study is to review the validity of current indicators and questions and to develop new one, based on it. The result is as follows : Current indicators mainly focus on the management of school library facility and collection, not on teacher librarians' educational activities and have the low validity to evaluate the expertise of teacher librarians. As a result, this study will suggest new evaluation indicators and questions to evaluate their expertise appropriately.

Study on the management & utilization of these and dissertation in university libraries of Korea (한국 대학도서관의 학위논문 관리 및 이용에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to find out general problems a n.0, ppeared in the management and utilization of these and dissertation and to suggest some recommendations, through the survey and analysis on the Korean university libraries. Questionnaires were sent to 109 university libraries which offer master's and doctoral degrees, during the period between March 7 and March 27, 1995. Responded questionnaires of 91 libraries (about 83%) were processed using SAS. The results of this survey can be summarized as follows: 1. Most of Korean university libraries have the collections of theses and dissertations ranging from less than 10,000 volumes (27 libraries ; 32.1%) ; 10,000 to 30,000 volumes (20 libraries ; 25.0%) ; to more than 80,000 volumes (16 libraries ; 19.0%). The largest collection was around 200,000 volumes. 2. In the management of them, 35 libraries (38.5%) were active in collecting them, but 56 libraries (61.5%) were not active, mainly for the shortage of manpower and the space problems. In 62.6% of libraries, they are arranged with the books. And 51.3% of libraries process them in less than one month. 46 libraries (52.9%) computerize their system, and among them 40 libraries (87%) establish their own databases. 3. The collections of theses and dissertations are called by various name, including periodical room, theses room, reference reading room etc. reaching to 15 kinds. 71 libraries (78.0%) adopt open system, and 17 libraries closed system ; and 2 libraries (3.2%) partial open system. 62 libraries (68.1%) arrange them in the order of call number, while 20 libraries (31.9%) by other criteria.

  • The purpose of this study is to devise a classification scheme to arrange the agricultural information efficiently. In the first part it defines the agricultural science and studies the content and system of the agricultural science. It compares current KDC with DDC, UDC and NDC used to agriculture parts, and it studies AGRICOLA SCC. On the basis of it, this study is displayed the new classification for the agricultural science. The new classification scheme Is classified by the basic theories related to agriculture, agriculture of plants, animal agriculture, food products, and auxiliary disciplines in turn. The number of main divisions are set up 23 items.

  • This study aims to investigate the problems in conducting the first year project of a five-year school library revitalization project and to suggest the alterative to the present system for the following years. The method of evaluation was to visit the 16 local ministries of education and to interview the government school inspectors, school principals, teachers-in-chief, teacher librarians and parents. The evaluation was conducted based on the following criteria; school library facilities and increase in collection, enrichment of education W through school library, location of manpower and enhancement of profession and building the cooperation system with the private and public sectors. Additionally, school library service training and library support system were evaluated.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest to the reference librarians In the university that how they should perform their roles under the internet environment. For this purpose, first, the environmental factors that the roles of the reference librarians should be changed are examined. Second, such two aspects of the future university library as virtual library and learning resource center are Presupposed. The seven role models for reference librarians based on these are as follows. 1) Contents Analyst, 2) Contents Manager, 3) Learning Resource Supplier, 4) Information Mediators, 5) Virtual Lecture Manager, 6) Instructor for Information Literacy, 7) Reference Resource Developer.

  • The basis of public libraries as a service organization dependes on the customer's needs and expectation. Recently, public libraries have faced an existence crisis attacked from the development of Internet and the various cultural programs of other organizations. Thus, public libraries required continuos effort in order to get the existence necessity from community and customers. This paper investigates and compares with the public Service Charter provided a customer oriented public service, public library evaluation indexes by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism Gyeonggi Province, and a public satisfaction survey by Seoul Metropolitan. Thus this paper can provide the basis materials fur future public library evaluation.

  • This paper strives to illustrate the selection processes in public libraries. It specifically attempts to survey the budget allocation, collection development policy, usage of selection criteria, and priority of selection decision in collection development units in public libraries. Staff structure, committee activities, methods of selection, usage of selection tools and librarians' recognitions about selection process are also investigated. Data are drawn from a survey with 315 public libraries in the country. Specific statistics to be analyzed via literature, although not detailed in nature, are scrutinized as well. As a conclusion, the paper discusses such an issue as current situation in selection of materials public libraries and possible impetus toward a better collection development process.

  • Opening university library doors to the community is essential to meeting their demands and it is also the duty of university libraries. Since opening doors of university libraries have become more and more significant, this study analysed the conditions of the university libraries that have the open-door policy to external users and carried out an analysis of problems caused by the open-door policy. The following alternatives were suggested : the introduction of the membership system about the external users, the role division of university library and local public libraries, reinforcement of external library user education, and access management about external users.

  • Digital library in knowledge-information-based society of the 21st century should develop legally various digital information resources in order to provide information services to users. This study analyzes and examines in detail the related provisions of copyright law relating to the development of digital information resources(digitalized works, electronic books, electronic journals, electronic reserve materials etc.). This study also points out the problems of the current Copyright Act and proposed Copyright Act of Korea. And it suggests necessary measures and improved plans to promote the development of digital information resources.

Determinants of Food Management Behavior of Housewives in Island Areas -Comparison between Hansan and Ullung Island- (도서 지역 주부의 식생활 관리 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인 -한산도와 울릉도 지역을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify food management behavior of housewives in island areas and to find if the behavior patterns were different between the regions, Hansan and Ullung island. An instalment based on previous researches was designed to measure food management behavior and was administered to 274 housewives in 1994 and 1998. Considering the condition of cooking-equipment possession, the percentage of possession for refrigerator, mix, electric range were significantly higher for households in Hansan Island than their counterparts. For food-budget planning, those in Ullung Island were more likly to plan their budget than those in Hansan Island. Menu planning patterns, considerable factors for food selection as well as cooking, and eating habits between meals were tuned out to be different between Hansan and Ullung areas. The findings of this study suggest that the condition of cooking-equipment possession, food-budget and menu planning, considerable factors for food selection and cooking, eating habits between meals were likely to vary depending on regions. Although housewives in two areas were living in island, they were not necessarily be uniform for all households but were diversified in food management behavior. Half of the respondents in Hansan Island and three-forth of the respondents in Ullung Island reported they had not planned their meal budget. The percentage of those who did not have their planned menu was 52.7∼54.1% in Hansan Island and 37.1∼38.5% in Ullung Island. When purchasing food material, housewives in Hansan Island consider the seasoning food as the most important factor, whereas those in Ullung Island consider family preference as the most important factor
