  • This paper shows that digital libraries can be understood through STIN models which emphasize interactions among components in networks. The enrollment strategies in the American Memory make human and non-human factors interact. Specifically, this paper articulates that the relationships between users and collections, between users and staff, and between users and users are closely linked through the strategies . Observing the linkages among these components ,this paper found that the enrollment processes not only draw users to the American Memory, but also alter roles of components and creates new roles and players for them. The alterations of roles and the resulting changes of relationships among components mean that digital libraries lead to transform the grounding of knowledge works in a society.

In addition, the safety of ship operation is also a problem with the supply of good sailors difficult problem of low wages and lack of safety working environment. T It is necessary to ensure the introduction of public operating system in coastal passenger shipping business to secure the public and safety. There are many practical constraints but if we obtain public sea ways, it will be possible to improve the operating system through the implementation from a subsidized line and taking off business licenses of an insolvent enterprise by enhancing safety control.

  • The recent advance of information and communication technologies has made the identity of public libraries ambiguous. Few literatures have dealt with a local community public library from knowledge creation perspective. In this article we extend the applicability of the concepts such as knowledge management and knowledge city to local public libraries whose major role needs to change from the traditional book rental to knowledge and social capital creating entity. Based on the concepts, we propose a framework for analyzing the public library as a center of knowledge creation. Using the framework, we analyze the Ridgewood Public Library in New Jersey to test the validity of the framework.

  • The Korean Librarian Association was established in 1990 for the professionalization of the librarian in Korea. So far there has been no research with the association as a main subject in spite of its importance in the history of Korean Libraries. In this study, we attempt to investigate the meaning and the importance of the association from the view point of professionalism. As a professional association, the Korean Librarian Association tried to get professional autonomy from the governing bodies and the market to reach higher level in professionalization. But the activities of the association has been radically declined since 1997, which would be affected by the character of librarianship that is mainly based not on individual characteristics but on organizational characteristics.

  • We analyzed various cost components for approximately 40 small-scale island desalination plants operated by K-water. A significant factor affecting desalination cost was found, and we proposed a way to reduce desalination costs. All plants considered were reverse osmosis (RO) facilities. TDS concentrations of feed water varied from less than 1,000 mg/L (practically considered freshwater) to over 30,000 mg/L (nearly seawater). Analysis of desalination costs from 2005 to 2009 indicated that maintenance, labor, and energy were the three biggest components that accounted for 50.6%, 36.9% and 7.8%, respectively. It was well known that TDS of feed water directly affected energy needed for RO process. In this study we found that maintenance cost was also directly related to feed water TDS. This finding indicated that lowering feed water TDS might result in significant desalination cost reduction.
